This week there will be a variety of engaging events for all tastes including rock climbing at Macon Rocks Climbing Gym, a meetup for proud beard owners, and an event for Swifties and the people who love them at The Society Garden with a Taylor Swift tribute band. The following are just a few of the fun things going on this week in the heart of Georgia.


MONDAY, August 19th

Macon Rocks Climbing Gym (10 a.m.-10 p.m.)

It can be challenging to find something fun to do on Mondays in Middle Georgia but Macon’s rock climbing gym provides a unique way to exercise while climbing the walls. Day passes to the Macon Rocks Climbing Gym cost $17 for adults or $15 for a discount day pass and there are also visit passes and memberships available on the gym’s website.

Second Street Staycation Giveaway (12:15-11:45 p.m.)

During August, when you dine or grab a drink from participating locations on Second Street you will get a chance to win a grand prize that includes a one-night stay at The Woodward Hotel, two tickets to see Rumours at The Capitol Theatre, and prizes from multiple local businesses like Oliver’s Corner Bistro and The Rose Room. To compete in the giveaway, use a passport that can be picked up at any of the participating businesses, like Kinjo Kitchen + Cocktails.

TUESDAY, August 20th

Battle of the Boy Bands at Miramar Raw Bar and Tapas (5-9 p.m.)

This musical event will feature two of the best-known boy bands and diners will hear the music of NSYNC as it competes against the music of the Backstreet Boys. The restaurant will also be selling special-themed cocktails and presenting a giveaway as well.

WEDNESDAY, August 21th

Part-Time Job Fair at Middle Georgia State University (11 a.m.-2 p.m.)

This event is for Middle Georgia State University students in search of a part-time job. The job fair will take place in the university’s Student Life Center.

Magnolia Soap Box Derby’s Open Board Meeting at Fall Line Brewing Co. (6 p.m.)

The Magnolia Soap Box Derby is a free, family-friendly event that brings thrilling soap box derby races to the steep hill on Washington Park every year in April. This event is for those who might be interested in joining the board of the annual derby.

THURSDAY, August 22nd

Beards of Macon Meetup at Fall Line Brewing Co. (6 p.m.)

If you have an Abe Lincoln, or a Chewbacca, or any other variety of chin curtain (aka beard), and want to meet others of your kind, this is the event for you. If you want your face foliage to be photographed at this event, make sure to fill out this form beforehand.

Karaoke with Fresh Produce Records at JBA (9 p.m.-1:30 a.m.)

Willie D. of Fresh Produce Records will host another night of karaoke this Thursday night at JBA. This event is free and open to the public.

FRIDAY, August 23rd

Megadeth at the Atrium Health Amphitheater (9:30 a.m.)

Megadeth is one of the big four American thrash metal bands (the others are Metallica, Anthrax, and Slayer) and they will be coming to Macon’s newest music venue this Friday. General admission lawn tickets cost $32 on ticketmaster.com.

Will Hoge at Capricorn Sound Studios (7:30 p.m.)

Will Hoge will be playing at the historic Capricorn Sound Studios this Friday night. Hoge’s album “Tenderhearted Boys”, his fourteenth studio album, was released on April 12th and is Grammy-nominated. Tickets to see Hoge in concert cost $35 plus fees on seetickets.com.

Will Hoge's music video for his song "Strong" pays tribute to hard workers 

ROAD TRIP: Dueling Pianos at The Tipsy Daisy in Griffin (8 p.m.)

The Andrew Brothers of The Andrews Brothers Dueling Pianos will be playing dueling pianos at The Tipsy Daisy this Friday evening. There is no cover charge for this show.

Taylor Nation (Taylor Swift Tribute band) at The Society Garden (8-10 p.m.)

Swifties will unite once more at The Society Garden this Friday for Taylor Nation, a popular Taylor Swift tribute band. Tickets to see Taylor Nation start at $20.00 on eventbrite.com (and kids will need tickets too, according to the venue).

Bark After Dark Barks & Boots Country Night at Barks N Brews (9-11 p.m.)

Downtown Macon’s dog park/bar, Barks N Brews will present Bark After Dark: Barks & Boots Country Night on Friday. This unique event will feature lots of adorable dogs, tasty beverages, and live country music from singer and songwriter Megan Fowler. Be sure to read the list of requirements before you go and entry costs $10 daily or $30 for a monthly membership.

SATURDAY, August 24th

Harry Potter Lego Build and Take Event at Barnes & Noble (2-4 p.m.)

Anything is possible if you have enough nerve, as one Ginny Weasley once said. On Saturday, those with enough nerve will enjoy the Harry Potter Lego Build and Take Event. Participants will enjoy building Lego sets straight out of the wizarding world of Harry Potter (and some will even be dressed for the part). There are limited spots available for this event, which is intended for children ten and older, so call Barnes & Noble at (478)474-0161 to reserve your spot.

Macon Music Live presents Ides of June at The Big House Museum (7 p.m.)

Ides of June is an Atlanta-based blues rock band that will perform at the Allman Brothers Band museum The Big House on Saturday. Guests are invited to bring a lawn chair and arrive early for a tour of the museum.

Late Night Hot Glass Cold Beer at stARTup Studios (8 p.m.)

stARTup Studios will have one of their Monthly Late Night Hot Glass and Cold Beer events on Saturday. At this interesting event, attendees are invited to sit and watch the dazzling art of glassblowing while enjoying cold beverages and music and hanging out with friends.

BAS at The Hummingbird (10 p.m.-2 a.m.)

BAS is bringing their groovy and psychedelic sound to The Hummingbird late Saturday night. This band always puts on a fun show and the cover charge will only be $5 for this performance.

SUNDAY, August 25th

Teacher Appreciation Day at Rigby’s Water World (12-6 p.m.)

Teachers, school administrators, and school support staff will get into Rigby’s Water World free on Sunday as part of Teacher Appreciation Day. Other attendees will need admission tickets which cost $25 for guests forty-two inches or shorter or $32 for guests over forty-two inches.

Open House and Student Showcase at Artspace Macon (2-6 p.m.)

Artspace Macon will present an Open House where guests can check out the creative studio at Artspace Macon as well as meet their artists and instructors. There will also be a special student showcase as well as light refreshments and live music at this free, family-friendly event.
