Middle Georgia's False Fall has had the weather feeling wonderfully cool lately but it isn't likely to last. No matter what the temperature is outside, there are lots of ways to have fun with friends and family or even go on a solo adventure in the heart of Georgia. The following are just a few of the things to do the week of August 26th through September 1st.


MONDAY, August 26th

Townsend School of Music’s Townsend All Faculty Gala (7:30 p.m.)

Mercer University’s Townsend School of Music will start its concert series off this year with performances from its talented faculty members, including Brittan Braddock, Kyung-A Yoo, Marie Roberts, Timothy McReynolds, Marcus Reddick, Nate Gay, Monty Cole, Richard Kosowski, Martha Malone, Kyle Mallari, and Amy Schwartz Moretti. This free event includes a reception on Townsend’s patio afterward.

Second Street Staycation Giveaway (12:15-11:45 p.m.)

The Second Street Staycation Giveaway will take place until the last day of August, and customers or participating locations on Second Street will get a chance to win a grand prize that includes a one-night stay at The Woodward Hotel, two tickets to see Rumours at The Capitol Theatre, and prizes from local businesses like Oliver’s Corner Bistro. To compete in the giveaway, grab a passport at any of the participating businesses, like Kinjo Kitchen + Cocktails, and make sure to get it stamped when shopping at participating Second Street restaurants and businesses.

TUESDAY, August 27th

Holistic Healing Resources Ribbon Cutting Ceremony (2 p.m.)

The Greater Macon Chamber of Commerce and Holistic Healing Resources will celebrate the opening of this health-focused business that helps clients “develop and maintain consistent treatment plans that tailor to your specific health needs”. Guests at the ceremony will be served treats and favor bags (for the first fifty guests), and be able to take part in a raffle for free reflexology as well as free HydroMassage Therapies.

478 Creatives “The Road to Residencies & Retreats” at The Web (6-8 p.m.)

Creatives Mama Hawk Draws and The Web will present the 478 Creative’s August meet-up this Tuesday at The Web, a co-working space in Macon. Macon Arts Alliance will be supplying both alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages for the event while talented artists Cara Heard and Micah Goguen will give a special presentation to guests. This event is free and open to the public and is a great way to meet other creatives even if you don’t consider yourself an artist.

WEDNESDAY, August 28TH

Wine Down Wednesdays at Hotel 45 (4-9 p.m.)

Hotel Forty Five's Wine Down Wednesday is a weekly event that combines tasty "culinary offerings and inviting ambiance" at the hotel's restaurant, Loom.

THURSDAY, August 29th

Mercer Football Home Opener at Five Star Stadium (7 p.m.)

The Mercer Bears football team will kick off their 2024 season this Thursday at Mercer’s Five Star Stadium. The Bears will be facing off against the Presbyterian College’s Blue Hose. General admission tickets to the Mercer Bears home opener game start at $15 online.

FRIDAY, AUGUST 30th

Chosen Family Fued at Emerson at Plum (6 p.m.)

Macon Pride will present their 5th annual Chosen Family Fued this Friday at Emerson at Plum. Proceeds from this game show event will benefit the Human Rights Campaign and entry will cost a $10 donation at the door.

Stand-Up Comedy Night with Lace Larrabee & Friends at The Society Garden (8-11 p.m.)

Atlanta comedian Lace Larrabee will be bringing some talented and funny friends to the big stage at The Society Garden this Friday night. Larrabee is not only a nationally touring stand-up comedian: she is also a former beauty queen and a semifinalist on season 17 of America’s Got Talent. Tickets to the Stand-Up Comedy Night cost $15 on eventbrite.com or at the gate.

Mercer Night featuring DJ TA$H at The Hummingbird (10 p.m.-2 a.m.)

DJ TA$H will be playing songs to get Mercer students and others moving on the dance floor at Mercer Night this Friday. All Mercer students that are 21 and older with a student ID will get in free: all others will pay the reasonable $5 cover at the door.

SATURDAY, August 31st

Pound & Pour with Crunch Fitness at Fall Line Brewing Co. (11 a.m.)

Crunch Fitness will be presenting a unique workout event at Fall Line Brewing Co. this Saturday. Pound & Pour will combine cardio, rock and roll, as well as strength training, pilates, and yoga and the use of Ripstix (lightly weighted drumsticks). Tickets for Pound & Pour are free but you must register online to attend.

Fairly Weathered Friends at Parish on Cherry St. (12-3 p.m.)

The funky and talented Fairly Weathered Friends will be playing for the diners at Parish on Cherry St. this Saturday afternoon. This Middle Georgia band introduces themselves as having been “founded on the love of music and how it moves the soul”. There is no cover charge at Parish on Cherry Street.

Shrinky Dink Keychain Craft at Hello Boba Cafe (2 p.m.)

Guests at Hello Boba Cafe on Saturday will get a chance to create kawaii (meaning cute and simple) Shrinky Dink keychains. This unique event costs only $5 and there is no pre-registration required to take part in this craft workshop.

ROAD TRIP: Dragon Con 2024 in Atlanta (4:30 p.m.)

Dragon Con is back in Atlanta starting Thursday this week. Dragon Con is the largest popular culture convention and will include thousands of cosplayers and fans of fiction and fantasy genres, gaming, comics, art, music, and film. Tickets for only Friday start at $55 online.

SUNDAY, September 1st

The Bridge Concert Series with Kenneth Devon at Serenity Entertainment Complex (6 p.m.)

Entertainer, musician, and rhythm and blues artist Kenneth Devon will be performing at the latest Bridge Concert Series from Serenity Entertainment Complex this Sunday. Tickets to see Kenneth Devon perform start at $15 on eventbrite.com.

The Mill Queens and The Rougarous at Buffington’s in Milledgeville (6-9 p.m.)

The Mill Queens and The Rougarous Live will play music from the great state of Louisiana at Buffington’s this Sunday. Buffington’s doesn’t have a cover charge but they do serve tasty meals like blackened chicken as well as tender sirloins.
