Live Entertainment Spotlight in Middle Georgia this Week

The last weekend of August is here and it certainly feels like this month flew by. The next few days will quickly be behind us so here are a few live entertainment shows taking place around the heart of Georgia to try to slow it down some.


THURSDAY, August 29th

FUTUREBIRDS AT THE CAPITOL THEATRE (8 p.m.)

The Athens rock band Futurebirds returns to The Capitol Theatre this Thursday. Futurebirds have shared the stage with Widespread Panic, Drive-By Truckers, and Blitzen Trapper. General admission tickets to this show cost $22 and balcony seats are $32 online at this link or The Capitol Theatre’s box office.

KARAOKE AT JBA WITH FRESH PRODUCE RECORDS (9 p.m.-1:30 a.m.)

Fresh Produce Records’s Willie D will be hosting a night of entertaining karaoke this Friday at Downtown Macon’s JBA.


FRIDAY, August 30th

SHAW COGGIN AT BUFFINGTON’S IN MILLEDGEVILLE (7-10 p.m.)

Shaw Coggin is a musician, a singer, and a student at Georgia College & State University. He will be playing a free show at Buffington’s this Friday night for diners.

ALPHONSO THOMAS AND TARI PURCELL “UNPLUGGED” AT CHURCHILLS ON CHERRY (7:30-9:30 p.m.)

Alphonso Thomas from Alphonso Thomas and Moments Notice will be playing an acoustic show with Tari Purcell, a piano and guitar player who plays rhythm and blues, soul, and funk, at Churchills on Cherry this Friday evening. Churchills on Cherry is a cigar lounge that serves food and adult beverages.

FUNKY BLUESTER AT FISH N PIG (7:30 p.m.)

Funky Bluester, a rock band from Atlanta, will be playing by the water at Fish N Pig on Friday night. This band plays hits from the 60s and 70s from bands like The Allman Brothers Band, Who, and Gov’t Mule.

NEEDTOBREATHE AT THE MACON CITY AUDITORIUM (8 p.m.)

The band NEEDTOBREATHE has been performing for two decades. The band is currently touring to promote their newest album CAVES. NEEDTOBREATHE is Grammy-nominated and CAVES features collaborations with Old Dominion, Carly Pearce, Judah & The Lion, and Foy Vance. Tickets to the show currently start at $26.50 on ticketmaster.com.

WILLIAM MATHENY AND DARRIN BRADBURY AT GRANT’S LOUNGE (8 p.m.)

William Matheny is a songwriter and multi-instrumentalist from West Virginia. He will be playing with Darrin Bradbury, a songwriter and musician. Doors open at 7 p.m. and the music starts at 8 p.m. Tickets cost $10 online or at the door.

RENEGADE AT 20’S PUB (9 p.m.-2 a.m.)

Renegade will be playing country and southern rock music at 20’s Pub on Riverside early into Saturday morning. There is no cover at 20’s Pub.

BLAIR CRIMMINS AND THE HOOKERS AT THE SOCIETY GARDEN (7 p.m.)

Blair Crimmins and The Hookers describe their music as “hot ragtime jazz with a touch of rock and roll”. Tickets to see the trio live cost $12 at the gate.

SATURDAY, August 31st

PLAY MUSIC ON THE PORCH DAY (11 a.m.-11 p.m.)

This year will be the 10th year that Play Music on the Porch Day is celebrating our. This year it will be occurring in over 1000 locations around the world. You can take part in this unique event by registering the location of the porch where you will be playing music online at this link

47 BY CROW AT JAIL CREEK FARMS WINERY IN JEFFERSONVILLE (7 p.m.)

47 By Crow is a band from nearby Dublin that plays of mix of country and southern rock as well as their original music. They will be performing at Jail Creek Farms Winery, a vineyard and winery in Jeffersonville. Agave Azul will be on hand serving what the winery describes as “monster quesadillas”.

GROUND HUM AT MY BAR IN PERRY (9 p.m.)

Ground Hum will be playing popular 90’s alternative hits this Saturday at My Bar. There is no cover at My Bar.

CMD ENTERTAINMENT PRESENTS KANGOLS AND SHELL TOES AT GRANT’S LOUNGE (9 p.m.)

This event will include a DJ, a live band, a performance from DMB Styles, as well as from songstress Blak Pearl. This show is billed as a “celebration of hip-hop music and culture with a southern twist”. Tickets to this musical event cost $15 online or at the door.

SONS OF A SINNER DEBUT AT BILLY’S CLUB HOUSE (10 p.m.-1 a.m.)

Sons of a Sinner, a band from Chattanooga that plays covers of rock and country music, will be performing at Billy’s Club House this Saturday night. There is never a cover charge at Billy’s Club House.

SOUTHBOUND MOJO AT THE HUMMINGBIRD (10 p.m.-2 a.m.)

Southbound Mojo will be playing rock music at The Hummingbird this Saturday night. The Hummingbird will charge a $5 cover for this show.


SUNDAY, September 1st

THE BRIDGE CONCERT SERIES WITH KENNETH DEVON AT SERENITY ENTERTAINMENT COMPLEX (6 p.m.)

Entertainer, musician, and rhythm and blues artist Kenneth Devon will be performing at the latest Bridge Concert Series from Serenity Entertainment Complex this Sunday. Tickets to see Kenneth Devon perform start at $15 on eventbrite.com.
