Adventures in Middle Georgia: Things to Do this Week in the Heart of Georgia
The month of December is packed with festive parties and events. Some of the notable events this week include a free night of storytelling from Storytellers Macon on Tuesday, a Benefit Show for Matt McMillan on Thursday, and the annual Macon-Bibb County Christmas Parade on Sunday. The following are just a few of the interesting things to do this week in the heart of Georgia.
TUESDAY, December 10th
Storytellers Macon presents “Under the Lights” at Grant’s Lounge (6:30 p.m.)
Storytellers Macon presents another evening of creative storytelling at the historic Grant’s Lounge. The theme on Tuesday night will be “Under the Lights,” where storytellers will tell true stories about “moments illuminated by truth, passion, or the thrill of recognition.” The featured storyteller will be Reverend Erin Robinson Hall, a Baptist minister, writer, and blogger. The audience is invited to tell their own 5-minute-long, true stories around the theme for the evening, and you can register at this link. This event is free and open to the public and appropriate for mature audiences as the stories are uncensored.

Bob and Blender’s Acoustic Campfire Jams at Vice Bar (8-11 p.m.)
Bob and Blender host Acoustic Campfire Jams on Tuesdays at Vice Bar. During this event, musicians are invited to bring their instruments and perform with other musically inclined individuals. There is no cover charge for Bob and Blender’s Acoustic Campfire Jam.

WEDNESDAY, December 11th
Pop-Up Art Night: Ornament Making at Just Tap’d (6 p.m.)
Artspace Macon is presenting a Pop-Up Art Night in Just Tap’d’s cellar on Wednesday evening. Attendees will create a set of 3 ornaments using materials like marbled, rice, and vintage paper, paint and paint pens, and sparkly sequins. Artists Casie Trace and Lindsey Hopkins will assist attendees with any questions and give tips for making beautiful, unique ornaments. Cirque Dreams Holidaze at the Macon Coliseum (7:30 p.m.)
Cirque Dreams Holidaze is described as the “longest running cirque holiday theatrical event” and combines Broadway-style action with circus acts. This family-friendly event includes festive music, creative sets, and inventive storylines. Tickets to Cirque Dreams Holidaze currently start at $29 on ticketmaster.com.

Comedy Open Mic Night at Vice Bar (8-10 p.m.)
The last Comedy Night at Vice Bar of the year will take place this Wednesday. The event, led by local comedian Caroline Exum, invites Middle Georgia’s funny people to take the stage and try out their jokes on the audience, which will include other comedians. Comedy Open Mic Night will return to Vice Bar every Wednesday night on January 8th.

THURSDAY, December 12th
Christmas Movie Trivia Night at The Society Garden (7 p.m.)
Get in the Christmas spirit at The Society Garden’s Christmas Movie Trivia Night. LaBella Morella will have its food truck on site, and the outdoor beer garden’s fire pits will be burning bright while guests sip specialty Christmas cocktails.

Benefit Show for Matt McMillan with Glenn Lewis, Daniel Graves, Justin Cutway, and Other Musicians at Vice Bar (7:30 p.m.)
Matt McMillan of Matt McMillan and the City Limits is a beloved Middle Georgia musician whose talented friends are getting together on Thursday for a benefit concert that will raise funds to help him get through some tough times. As well as live music from multiple local musicians, there will also be a silent auction with musical instruments, gift cards, concert tickets, t-shirts, and more.

FRIDAY, December 13th
Christmas Lights Spectacular in Downtown Macon (6,7,8, and 9 p.m.)
The Macon Christmas Lights Spectacular, which was recently featured on ABC World News Tonight, includes over one million synchronized Christmas lights with light shows on the hour every night from 6 to 9 p.m. through January 2, 2025. There are also often carriage rides and photo opportunities with Santa and his sleigh that start at 6 p.m. at this free, family-friendly event.

Peoria at Macon - Video Game Night at the Macon Coliseum (7 p.m.)
The Mayhem presents Video Game Night on Friday night in the Macon Coliseum. The Mayhem will face off against the Peoria Rivermen, and the theme for the night will be retro video games. The Macon Mayhem will also play against the Peoria Rivermen on Saturday (Grinch Stole Hockey night) and Sunday (Salute to Service night). Tickets to a Macon Mayhem game start at $13 on the Macon Mayhem’s website.

A Krampus Carol at VFW Post 6605 in Warner Robins (7 p.m.)
A Krampus Carol is presented by Middle Georgia’s Feral Fever, a burlesque-intensive performance art troupe. This event is for mature audiences only. Tickets to A Krampus Carol start at $25 on eventbrite.com.

Navidad Con Ritmo: A Latin Christmas in Macon at Kudzu Seafood Company (7-10 p.m.)
The Ritmo Soul Bunch will be bringing Latin Christmas to Kudzu Seafood Company for Navidad Con Ritmo this Friday.

Peak of the Geminid Meteor Showers
While the moon will be almost full, there might still be a chance to see the Geminid meteor shower as it peaks overnight on Friday and Saturday. Skywatching can be a great way to gain perspective and appreciate the marvelous celestial events that make all of our human problems seem much smaller.
One Good Ring Grateful Dead Tribute at The Society Garden (8-10 p.m.)
One Good Ring is a Middle Georgia band that performs in tribute to The Grateful Dead. The band’s members are Jesse Cruce, John Medico, Rico Orlando, Eddie Pickett, Mike Spottswood,
Matt Strickland, and Jonathan Ward. There is often a cover charge at the gate for concerts at The Society Garden.

FriTay the 13th Taylor Swift Karaoke Party at The Hummingbird (9 p.m.-1 a.m.)
Swifties unite for the FriTAY the 13th Karaoke Party on Friday, December 13th. Hosted by Canipe, this event is for audiences 18 years old and older. There will be a cover charge of $5 for this event.

Nightmare Before XMAS Drag Show at Reboot Retrocade & Bar (9-11 p.m.)
Thee Doll (aka Yutoya Avazé Leon) will host an evening of performances at Reboot Retrocade & Bar this Friday night. This show will take inspiration from Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas. This event is for audiences 18 and older, and those 21 and older will pay no cover.

SATURDAY, December 14th
Breakfast with the Grinch and Santa at Lane Southern Orchards (9-11 a.m.)
Both Santa and the Grinch will be at Lane Southern Orchards this Saturday for photo opportunities with Middle Georgia children. The orchard asks that guests bring a new book for its communities little libraries. There will also be a breakfast of French toast, egg in a blanket, and bacon, which will cost $6.99 for kids and $7.99 for adults.

The Basement Club Christmas Concert and More at The Society Garden (2-4 p.m.)
The Basement Club band will perform both popular Christmas songs and rock and Americana music at its Christmas Concert on Saturday at The Society Garden. This family-friendly concert is free and open to the public.

Hay House Christmas Candlelight Tours (5-9 p.m.)
The extravagant Hay House will once again be lit up with candlelight for the Hay House Christmas Candlelight Tours on Saturday. Known as the “Palace of the South,” the 19th-century mansion will be decorated beautifully in celebration of the Christmas season. Tickets to the Hay House Christmas Candlelight Tours cost $20 on the Georgia Trust for Historic Preservation’s website.

ROAD TRIP: Hometown Holiday Illuminated Parade in Griffin (6:30 p.m.)
The City of Griffin and Spalding County will host the Hometown Holiday Illuminated Parade in Downtown Griffin on Saturday. This free, family-friendly event will be certain to get attendees in the Christmas spirit.

The Secret Sisters at the Capitol Theatre (8 p.m.)
The Americana band The Secret Sisters will perform at the Capitol Theatre on Saturday evening. The Secret Sisters, whose music has been compared to the Everly Brothers, will also welcome special guest Caleb Elliott as the opener. Elliott, who grew up in Louisiana, was influenced by gospel and classical music as a child. The doors open at 7 p.m., and the music starts at 8 p.m. Tickets to see The Secret Sisters and Caleb Elliott in concert currently start at $26.55 on seetickets.us.

Big Mike and Friends at The Society Garden (8 p.m.)
Big Mike and his talented friends will perform music ranging from classic rock to blues on the big stage at The Society Garden on Saturday evening.

Underground Oasis III Winter Wubberland at Tap and Pour (9 p.m.)
The restaurant Tap and Pour will turn into the “best rave in Middle Georgia” on Saturday night. Underground Oasis III Winter Wubberland will include music from multiple DJs, artwork from local artists, and unique vendors.

LUMIT (Love You, Mean It) at The Hummingbird (9:30 p.m.-1 a.m.)
The band LUMIT (Love You, Mean It) will perform at The Hummingbird on Saturday night. LUMIT’s music mixes the genres of funk, pop, country, and rock. The Hummingbird will charge a $5 cover for this show.

SUNDAY, December 15th
Play Streets Macon: Ingleside Village (2-5 p.m.)
Play Streets Macon will create a temporary park on Ingleside Avenue in the distinctive Ingleside Village on Sunday. This free, family-friendly event will include activities, photo opportunities with Santa, lawn games, an outdoor living room with a “Play Zone,” a creative traffic-calming art project, and more.

ROAD TRIP: ATL Holiday Market in Piedmont Park (10 a.m.-5 p.m.)
The ATL Holiday Market will feature artwork and goods from talented local artisans and food vendors. Santa, who is extra busy this time of year, will be making some time to take photos with attendees at this family-friendly event. The ATL Holiday Market is free and open to the public.

Fall Line’s Holiday Market at Fall Line Brewing Co. (1-5 p.m.)
Fall Line Station will be transformed into a Holiday Market on Sunday. Local vendors and businesses will be presenting unique items, including clothes, jewelry, food items, and coffee. This festive event is free to attend.

Macon-Bibb County Christmas Parade (4 p.m.)
The Macon-Bibb County Christmas Parade theme this year will be “Macon Christmas Jolly.” Expect to see plenty of Christmas lights and maybe even Santa himself as the parade travels from the Macon Terminal Station down Cherry Street, on First Street, and Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard.

Cheap Trick at the Macon City Auditorium (7 p.m.)
The rock band Cheap Trick, whose catchy music was very popular in the late 70s, will be at the Macon City Auditorium on Sunday, December 15th. Some of the band’s most popular songs include Surrender and I Want You to Want Me. Cheap Trick was recently inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2016.
