Weekend Adventures in the Heart of Georgia (7/31-8/2)

This weekend includes multiple back-to-school events for those whose summer break is ending soon, live music from a Queen tribute band, and a fundraising event that features inexpensive haircuts and BBQ plates. The following are just a few of the useful, interesting, and often free things to do this weekend in the heart of Georgia.

FRIDAY, July 31st

  >> Bibb County School District 9th Annual PBIS Back to School Bash at the Macon Mall in Macon (10 a.m.-12:30 p.m.)

The Bibb County School District and Bibb PBIS are holding a back-to-school event meant to help “decrease the number of students who are absent on the first day of school” on Friday. Attendees will receive free school supplies, free school uniform shirts, community resources, and more. The PBIS Back to School Bash is free to attend.

  >> Brownbook Market’s 5th Back to School Vendor Market at the Houston County Galleria (7/31-8/2) (11 a.m.)

Brownbook Market will hold its 5th Back to School Vendor Market from Friday to Sunday this week. The business was founded by “two siblings who begged their parents to start a business,” and so they are very familiar with the items needed to go back to school. Vendors will be selling unique merchandise including boutique fashions, home décor, jewelry, and more.

  >> Women in Truth: Abide 2026 at the Macon Coliseum (7/31-8/1) (5 p.m.)

Women In Truth: Abide 2026 will take place this Friday and Saturday at the Macon Coliseum. This two-day women’s conference will include speakers like Chrystal Evans Hurst and Courtney Smallbone, with worship led by Leeland, a Grammy-nominated worship band. Tickets for Women in Truth: Abide 2026 can currently be purchased on ticketmaster.com for $93.35.

  >> MUSIC: The Kings of Queen (Queen Tribute) at The Society Garden in Macon (8 p.m.)

The Kings of Queen is a Queen tribute band based out of Orange County, California, and led by frontman Emo Alaeddin, who shares an uncanny resemblance to Freddie Mercury. Expect Alaeddin to change into up to 4 costumes worthy of Mercury’s renowned showmanship. Tickets to see The Kings of Queen in concert cost $30.

  >> MUSIC: Them Dirty Roses at Grant’s Lounge in Macon (9 p.m.)

Them Dirty Roses is a rock band from Alabama heavily influenced by bands like Lynyrd Skynyrd and Hank Williams. The band was formed by two brothers (James and Frank Ford) along with two of their friends (Andrew Davis and Ben Crain). Tickets to see Them Dirty Roses in concert cost $20.

SATURDAY, August 1st    

  >> Snipz Cutathon 2026 at Snipz Hair Studio in Gray (9 a.m.-12 p.m.)

Snipz Hair Studio will raise funds for customer and friend Bill Gear during the Snipz Cutathon 2026 on Saturday. Gear and his family have dealt with a variety of expenses due to his congestive heart failure and the expensive treatment he has had to undergo since having a heart attack at the young age of 16. Patrons can purchase BBQ sandwich plates, boiled peanuts/skins, $5 raffle tickets, and haircuts for kids and men for $14 and haircuts for women for $20 during the Snipz Cutathon 2026, with proceeds benefitting the Gear family.

  >> Back to School Food Truck Festival at Walmart in Warner Robins (12-6 p.m.)

Genesis JOY House Homeless Shelter presents the Back to School Food Truck Festival this Saturday in Warner Robins. Vendors will be on hand with back-to-school essentials as well as lots of food to try out. There is no fee to attend the Back to School Food Truck Festival.

  >> MUSIC: Back to School Foam & Dance Party at The Society Garden in Macon (4-7 p.m.)

Celebrate the kids going back to school with a kids’ dance and foam party next Saturday. A DJ will be spinning records starting at 4:30 p.m., and a giant foam cannon from Poppin’ Parties will be spraying 6 feet of cooling foam. Tickets to the Back to School Foam & Dance Party cost $5.

  >> MUSIC: Just Friends Concert at Young America Music Schools in Macon (7-9 p.m.)

Middle Georgia band Just Friends will perform at Young American Music Schools this Saturday evening. Young American Music Schools is a music school and store, and it becomes an intimate music venue for events like this one. Tickets to this concert cost $10.

    > Young America Music Schools: 6361 Zebulon Road, Macon

  >> MUSIC: Tori James & the Hollow Saints at The Hummingbird in Macon (9:30 p.m.-1 a.m.)

Tori James & the Hollow Saints is a “rock-driven [and] country-hearted” band based in Georgia. They will perform at Downtown Macon’s The Hummingbird from Saturday night through early Sunday morning. The Hummingbird will charge a $5 cover for this show.

SUNDAY, August 2nd

  >> MUSIC: Don’t Shoot the Messenger, Vanara, Return to Sender, Lilypad HC, and Cut Clean Through at Reverb Room in Warner Robins (6 p.m.)

Atlanta metalcore band Don’t Shoot the Messenger and four other heavy metal bands, Vanara, Return to Sender, Lilypad HC, and Cut Clean Through, will perform at Reverb Room on Sunday evening. This all-ages show will also include a music video shoot for Don’t Shoot the Messenger. Tickets to the Don’t Shoot the Messenger Music Video Show cost $15 in advance and $20 at the door.

  >> TUESDAY, August 4th: An Evening with The Hillbilly Thomists at The Robins Financial Capitol Theatre in Macon: Paloma & Fig and Resona Magazine are presenting an "evening of music, storytelling, and community" next Tuesday that will include a performance from The Hillbilly Thomists.   >> FRIDAY, August 7th: First Friday in Downtown Macon: Another First Friday in Downtown Macon will include an inspiring art walk, live music, and specials at restaurants, retailers, and drinking establishments. (Various locations in Downtown Macon)

  >> FRIDAY, August 7th: Tier Blue ($10 Beer + A Local Show) at The Robins Financial Capitol Theatre in Macon (8 p.m.): Another concert in the $10 beer + a local show concert series from The Robins Financial Capitol Theatre and Macon Magazine takes place next Friday, with a performance from Tier Blue, a Macon alternative rock band. The $10 ticket price also includes 1 beer (for concertgoers 21 and older). (382 2nd Street, Macon)
