Weekday Adventures in the Heart of Georgia (8/31-9/3)

The adventurous can play pickleball for a good cause, compete in "one of the most challenging" trivia events in Georgia, and much more this week. With the meteorological end of summer this Monday,  Bike Walk Macon will say goodbye to summer with a Macon Bike Party shortly afterward on Thursday. The following are just a few of the unique, interesting, and often free things to do this week in the heart of Georgia.

MONDAY, August 31st

  >> PETS: HELP Spay/Neuter Clinic’s Low-Cost Spay/Neuter Service (Lamar County) in Barnesville (8:30-8:45 a.m.)

On Monday, the HELP Spay/Neuter Clinic will be at the Lamar County Animal Shelter to pick up unspayed and unneutered pets. HELP Spay/Neuter Clinic is based in Coweta County, but that doesn’t stop them from serving pet owners in 11 other counties, from Butts to Upson. After the surgery, the recovering pets can be picked up at the same place they were dropped off. Reservations are required for this event and can be made online at this link or by calling (770) 288-5592.

  >> PICKLEBALL: Pickleball Round Robin at Play Rhythm & Rally in Macon (9 a.m.)

Georgia Forward will present its Pickleball Round Robin fundraising event on Monday with competitive play, a beginner’s clinic, and lunch. Georgia Forward is the philanthropic arm of the Georgia Municipal Association, and seeks to help break the cycle of intergenerational poverty in Georgia. Registration at the Pickleball Round Robin starts at $60 online at this link.

TUESDAY, September 1st

  >> TRIVIA: Trivia with Giff at Friends on the HILL in Warner Robins (8-10 p.m.)

Trivia with Giff is billed as “one of the most challenging” trivia events in Georgia. If your head is full of facts like bananas being berries, but not strawberries, or that octopuses have three hearts, this event might be for you. Trivia signups start at 8 p.m., with the questions starting at 8:30 p.m.

WEDNESDAY, September 2nd

  >> BOOKS: A.J. Symon Author Talk at the Washington Memorial Library in Macon (5 p.m.)

A.J. Symon, author of a young adult novel named “Golden Boy,” will speak with readers at Washington Memorial Library this Wednesday. “Golden Boy” tells the “fun, fast-moving” story of a golden retriever who becomes human. Prospective authors and readers will learn how Symon became a novelist and hear him read from his debut novel. This event is free and open to the public.

  >> MUSIC: Happy Hour Music Trivia and Open Jam at Grant’s Lounge in Macon (5:30-7:30 and 8 p.m.)

Rock Candy Tours, Visit Macon, and The Creek 100.9 FM host Happy Hour Music Trivia every Wednesday night at historic Grant’s Lounge. Middle Georgia music fans can take tours about Macon’s extensive musical history from Rock Candy Tours, and The Creek 100.9 FM entertains with engaging hosts and “the best of American Roots music.” Afterward, starting at 8 p.m., an Open Jam unfolds. Both Happy Hour Music Trivia and Open Jam are free and open to the public.

THURSDAY, September 3rd

  >> Macon Bike Party: Summer Send-Off in Macon (6-8 p.m.)

Bike Walk Macon invites the public to Downtown Macon to say goodbye to summer with a unique bike party this Thursday evening. Macon Bike Parties are “free, slow-paced bicycle ride(s) through Macon’s neighborhoods with music, friends, and fun,” according to Bike Walk Macon. Participants are reminded to bring their helmets. After the ride, cyclists are welcomed to celebrate together at Fall Line Brewing Co. This event is free and open to the public.

  >> MUSIC: Karaoke presented by Fresh Produce Records at Grant’s Lounge in Macon (9 p.m.)

Independent record store Fresh Produce Records presents an evening of karaoke at Grant’s Lounge on Thursdays. Grant's Lounge has hosted many talented musicians throughout the years, and some gifted musicians (and some not so gifted) perform at these entertaining karaoke events. This music-filled event is free and open to the public.

  >> FRIDAY, September 4th: MUSIC: Choir of Babble with Special Guest Justin Cutway at Vice Bar in Macon (9 p.m.): Choir of Babble will perform at Downtown Macon’s Vice Bar during a special homecoming show on Friday. Talented singer/songwriter Justin Cutway will open for the band. There is no cover for this show. (499 Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, Macon)

  >> FRIDAY, September 4th: First Friday in Downtown Macon: The first Friday in September will feature art gallery openings, live music from bands like Milledgeville’s Giant DeNiro at venues like The Hummingbird, and much more. (Various Locations, Macon)
