PRESS RELEASE: Cashman's Pub wins the 2024 Downtown Macon French Fry Fight, presented by Sysco

Macon, GA (July 17, 2024) – Cashman’s Pub is the winner of the coveted Super Spud Trophy given to the restaurant with the most votes during the Downtown Macon French Fry Fight, presented by Sysco. This is the second time Cashman’s Pub collected the most votes for their fry special –they first won the title of best fries in 2022, during the inaugural French Fry Fight.

“We enjoyed participating in this year’s French Fry Fight, we tried to do something our staff would have fun with,” said Reginald Perkins, Executive Chef of Cashman’s Pub. “It’s fun for people in Macon to try the different specials and see how creative and competitive all the restaurants can be. We plan to participate next year and all the years NewTown Macon hosts this event.”

Cashman’s winning special, the Asian Sesame Fries, featured Asian braised short rib, Japanese barbecue sauce, scallions, and sesame seeds, with a side of yum yum sauce. The Rookery came in second with their Rook Burger Battered Fries and Loom at Hotel Forty Five came in third with their Sweet & Salty fry special.

Twenty downtown restaurants participated in the third annual Downtown Macon French Fry, which created a boost in downtown foot traffic and sales on Wednesday, July 10. Several restaurants sold out of their special before closing and reported record sales.

NewTown’s Main Street Macon board developed the Downtown Macon French Fry as a way to drive more foot traffic downtown during the summer, which tends to be a slower season for the downtown area. This event helped achieve that goal by creating buzz around culinary twists a classic side that most restaurants already have on their menu.
