MACON, Ga. (March 13, 2025) — FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Today, TIME revealed its annual of the World’s Greatest Places, which highlights 100 extraordinary destinations to visit and stay worldwide.
Ocmulgee Mounds National Historical Park in Macon, Georgia is one of 50 “Places to Visit” to make the 2025 list and just one of twelve places within the U.S.!
Recognized for its cultural significance as a indigenous site and the advocacy efforts made by the Ocmulgee National Parks & Preserve Initiative to become America’s next National Park and the first National Park in the state of Georgia.
The listing also recognized the contributions of Visit Macon & Macon+Bibb County to establish the relationship and cultural ties between the city & the Muscogee (Creek) Nation, such as the installation of bilingual street signs throughout the Downtown corridor, the opening of the Otis Redding Center for the Arts and its contribution and significance in preserving Macon’s music heritage, and Visit Macon’s Macon Bacon Food Trail which aims to drive food-based tourism interest into our local eateries and dining establishments.
To compile this list, TIME solicited nominations of places – including hotels, cruises, restaurants, attractions, museums, parks and more – from its international network of correspondents and contributors, as well as via an application process, with an eye toward those offering new and exciting experiences.
