PRESS RELEASE: Macon’s Musical Heritage Comes to Life in New Immersive Installation
NewTown Macon and Dashboard collaborate to unveil a landmark installation by Megan Mosholder honoring Macon’s musical legacy at the 43rd Annual Macon Cherry Blossom Festival
MACON, GA – NewTown Macon and Dashboard announce Echoes of Sound, a semi-permanent, site-specific installation by acclaimed artist Megan Mosholder. Unveiling at the 43rd Annual Macon Cherry Blossom Festival, this immersive work fuses light, form, and dynamic sensory elements to honor Macon, Georgia's unparalleled contribution to the American musical landscape, while offering a visual exploration of its evolving cultural identity.
Echoes of Sound will transform downtown Macon’s arch on Poplar Street into a striking architectural experience, featuring sixteen towering 12-foot wooden posts arranged to create a rhythmic visual composition echoing the city’s musical heartbeat. Each post will be wrapped in vibrant pink, iridescent cords, symbolizing the city’s deep and diverse musical heritage—spanning blues, soul, rock, gospel, and beyond–developed by legends such as Little Richard, Otis Redding, and the Allman Brothers Band. These interwoven strands serve as dynamic representations of Macon’s artistic legacy and the fusion of culture that has shaped the city into a creative epicenter.
Suspended between the posts, cascading curtains of iridescent, faceted beads will capture and refract light, producing kaleidoscopic patterns that evoke the transformative power of music. The installation will also be augmented with dynamic UV-like light strips pulsing with an ever-changing rhythm, shifting in intensity and tone throughout the day and night. This luminous choreography will highlight the woven texture of the cords, creating an interplay of shadow and light, and an evolving visual experience that mirrors music’s fluidity.
“As a site-specific installation artist, I aim to create immersive environments that blend nature, light, and sculpture, offering a visceral experience where the audience’s relationship to the space becomes integral to the artwork itself,” said Mosholder, “For Echoes of Sound, my intention is to create a monumental, immersive installation that invites visitors to experience Macon’s rich musical legacy in a new way.”
The installation’s debut during the 43rd Annual Macon Cherry Blossom Festival further enhances its experience, aligning with the festival’s celebration of nature, culture, and community. This synergy underscores the profound intersection of art and music with the natural world, providing visitors with a multi-dimensional experience that bridges history with contemporary artistic expression, and a beacon for imaging Macon’s creative future.
