PRESS RELEASE: Downtown Macon Celebrates Bee's Knees Week (6/13-6/22)
Macon, GA –Bee’s Knees Week kicks off this Friday, June 13 and downtown Macon is going all in on the buzz. From June 13 to June 22, downtown restaurants and bars will offer their own spin on the classic Bee’s Knees, a cocktail traditionally made with gin, lemon juice, and honey.
This national initiative, led by Barr Hill Distillery, encourages participants to enjoy Bee’s Knees cocktails in support of pollinators and their natural habitats. Eleven downtown restaurants are participating by offering their own versions of the Bee’s Knees and encouraging customers to post pictures of cocktail specials with the hashtag #beeskneesweek and tag @barrhillgin. For every picture posted, Barr Hill will plant 10 square feet of pollinator habitat.
Additionally, NewTown Macon will offer a cocktail passport that invites Maconites and visitors to sip their way through the participating businesses’ specials. Passport holders who collect stamps at all participating venues can enter a drawing for the chance to win a $50 gift card to any downtown business of their choice.
Participating businesses include Black Cat, Dovetail, Hightales Rooftop Bar and Loom Comfort Kitchen & Cocktails at Hotel Forty Five, JBA, Just Tap’d, Kinjo Kitchen + Cocktails, Oliver’s Corner Bistro, Piedmont Brewery & Kitchen, Quill at The Woodward and The Man Upstairs.
“This is what makes downtown special—fun, collaborative events that support local businesses and a great cause,” said Emily Hopkins, NewTown Macon’s Vice President of External Affairs & Main Street Manger. “Bee’s Knees Week is the perfect excuse to explore downtown, try something new, and make a real impact—one cocktail at a time.”
Customers can pick up a passport at any participating business starting June 13. Completed passports should be emailed to emily@newtownmacon.com by 12pm on Monday, June 23. The winner will be announced on Tuesday, June 24.
