PRESS RELEASE: Macon-Bibb County Commission Establishes “Josh Rogers Way”

MACON, GA – At Tuesday night’s meeting, Mayor Lester Miller sponsored an ordinance to honor the life and legacy of Josh Rogers by dedicating the block of Third Street between Poplar Street and Cherry Street as Josh Rogers Way.” The Macon-Bibb County Commission unanimously approved the ordinance, ensuring Josh’s enduring impact will remain visible in the heart of downtown Macon.

Josh Rogers passed away unexpectedly on November 24, 2025, leaving the community he loved mourning an extraordinary leader, friend, and visionary. The dedication of Josh Rogers Way serves as a permanent reminder of his unwavering commitment to building a fairer and more vibrant Macon.

“It is fitting that we dedicate this portion of downtown Macon in Josh’s honor,” said Alex Morrison, Director of Planning and Public Spaces for Macon-Bibb County and Executive Director of the Macon-Bibb Urban Development Authority. “Josh inspired us to dream big for people, and this area will soon transform into a landmark gathering space imagined by Maconites through the Macon Action Plan.”

Throughout his career –from his early service with the City of Macon, to leading Historic Macon’s revitalization of Beall’s Hill, to transforming NewTown Macon into Central Georgia’s first CDFI, establishing downtown’s Business Improvement District, and guiding downtown to Great American Main Street recognition –Josh championed a vision of Macon where opportunity belonged to everyone. He empowered residents to build wealth through entrepreneurship, homeownership, and shared prosperity.

Josh Rogers was a true servant leader whose infectious enthusiasm for Macon and strategic vision inspired transformative community change. When asked what was integral to the success of downtown Macon’s revitalization he would quickly answer “togetherness.” He believed that a shared vision implemented arm in arm by Macon’s citizens was the difference between Macon’s success and failure and proved this through his ability to bring Maconites together. Throughout his tenure at NewTown Macon, he leveraged nearly $616 million to invest in Macon’s people and places.

“We are stronger, kinder, and more united because of Josh, his leadership, and, most importantly, his love for our community,” said Mayor Miller. “Our children and grandchildren will all benefit from his forward-thinking vision and ability to bring people together to make that vision a reality. He truly was a shining example of what it means to be part of Team Macon-Bibb.”

NewTown Macon will host a formal dedication and announce plans for future developments along Josh Rogers Way in early 2026.
