PRESS RELEASE: Checking out library books in Macon-Bibb County just got easier thanks to the Downtown Bus Station Book Locker.

MACON, GA – Middle Georgia Regional Library (MGRL) unveils its new Downtown Bus Station Book Locker located at the Macon-Bibb County Transit Authority (MBCTA) Transfer Station for library patrons to easily pick up and return books along their bus commute.

Patrons can now select this outdoor book locker as a 24/7 pickup and dropoff location for library books without the need to visit a traditional library branch. The MBCTA Transfer Station was chosen as the permanent installation site for the book locker because of its ease of street access and central location for bus riders, thus saving time added to their commute from visiting the library.

“This automated locker will allow people who live, work, or travel downtown to pick up and return their library books on their own schedule,” said Jennifer Lautzenheiser, Director of Libraries for MGRL. “Our partnership with the Transit Authority for the book locker’s location exemplifies how we continue working to make information access convenient for all.”

The Downtown Bus Station Book Locker is currently available for selection on gapines.org and in the PINES mobile app under the MGRL category within the “Library Info” section. It can also be requested over the phone or in person as a patron’s designated holds pickup location.

Funding for the Downtown Bus Station Book Locker was provided in part by the Governor’s Office of Planning and Budget using American Rescue Plan Act Funds through a Digital Connectivity Grant from the Georgia Public Library Service.
