A short documentary about musician Newton Collier will be screened at Theatre Macon on Friday, August 22nd, starting at 6 p.m., as part of the 2025 Macon Music Festival.
Collier first began playing the piano at age 6 and the trumpet at age 10. Collier's unique musical talents led him to playing professionally with the original band that backed Otis Redding.
Then, soon after graduating from Ballard Hudson High School in the early 60s, Collier began touring the world with Sam and Dave. Sam and Dave were a very popular band in the 60s that had a Grammy Award-winning hit with "Soul Man."
The screening of "NEWT" will start at 6 p.m. and include Muddy Waters with Mojo Museum. Tickets can be purchased online at the Macon Film Festival's website.
