Fun Things to Do in Macon this Week

MONDAY, MARCH 20

Cherry Blossom Festival in Carolyn Crayton Park (12 - 10 p.m.)

The 41st International Cherry Blossom Festival will be taking place through Sunday, March 26th. On Monday there will be three different concerts and special events taking place in Carolyn Crayton Park throughout the day. Singer, songwriter, and guitarist Rachel Forehand from Macon will perform from 3 to 4:30 p.m.. Country music artists Matt Rogers (5:30 - 7 p.m.) and Demun Jones of Jones County (8 - 10 p.m.) will perform later in the night. Monday is also Heroes Day at the festival and so all active, retired, reserve, and veteran military members will receive free entry and $10 unlimited rides with ID. There will be concerts during each day and night every night of the week and special events from The Human Cannonball, Lew-E's Comedy Circus, a Jurassic Kingdom Dinosaur Show, and more. Tickets for the Cherry Blossom Festival are $10 for festival goers over 10 (children under 10 receive free entry).

TUESDAY, MARCH 21

Macon200 Shines presents “A Light on Our Journey: Music and Arts” at Wesleyan College (6 p.m.)

The third part of the Macon Bicentennial History Series will take place this Tuesday at Wesleyan College. Music and the Arts will be the focus of this portion of the year long history series. This free event is presented by The John S. and James L. Knight Foundation and will take place in Wesleyan College’s Taylor Hall, which is inside the Peyton Anderson Amphitheater.

WEDNESDAY, MARCH 22

Cherry Blossom Festival in Third Street Park (11:30 a.m.)

Third Street Park in Downtown Macon will have activities, live music, and more from Monday through Friday this week in Downtown Macon. Visitors will enjoy free pink donuts, cherry ice cream, Coca-Cola drinks, and more. The Restless Natives, an Allman Brothers Band tribute band, will perform starting at 5:30 p.m. over in Carolyn Crayton Park on Wednesday as well.

THURSDAY, MARCH 23

Evil Woman, The American ELO at the Grand Opera House (7:30 p.m.)

Electric Light Orchestra (ELO) is a rock band that formed in England in 1970, went on to release several top 10 albums and singles, and become one of the best-selling music groups ever. Evil Woman, The American ELO is described as a multi-media concert celebration of the music of ELO by The Grand Opera House. There will be 12 musicians on the Grand’s historic stage performing songs like Mr. Blue Sky, Roll Over Beethoven, and, of course, Evil Woman. Ticket prices start at $25.

FRIDAY, MARCH 24

"An Iconic Evening" at Hargray Capitol Theatre (7 p.m.)

"An Iconic Evening" is a cabaret style performance with singer JJ Collins singing iconic music. It will include a special tribute to Macon’s Steven Fullbright. Proceeds from this show will benefit the Macon Arts Alliance. Tickets cost $40 for upper balcony tickets, $45 for lower balcony tickets, and $50 for general admission floor tickets.

SATURDAY, MARCH 25

52nd Annual Mulberry Street Arts & Crafts Festival (10 a.m. - 6 p.m.)

The Mulberry Street Arts & Crafts Festival has the distinction of being the oldest such event in Middle Georgia. This event brings thousands of visitors to Downtown Macon and Mulberry Street between Second Street and Broadway will be closed off to vehicles and become a concrete park where over 100 vendors will have booths set up. The festival takes place on Saturday as well as on Sunday (10 a.m. - 5 p.m.). There is no entry fee to attend the Mulberry Street Arts & Crafts Festival.

Macon Mullet Pageant at The Hummingbird (3 - 6:30 p.m.)

This is the first ever Macon Mullet Pageant and will feature men and women competing against each other with both real and fake mullets covering their heads. Comedian Shelly Belly with host this unique and comedic event. Tickets are $10 for this 18 and up event.

Cherry Blossom Fashion Show at the Tubman Museum (6 - 9 p.m.)

The Cherry Blossom Festival Fashion Show will include local celebrities and dignitaries modeling clothes from the local fashion scene. There will be hors d’oeuvers by the Perfect Pear, clothing designs by Canaan Marshall, and live music from DJ BlackJack. General Admission tickets are $50 and VIP tickets are $100.

SUNDAY, MARCH 26

Macon Rocks with Macon Pops at Carolyn Crayton Park (7:30 p.m.)

Macon Pops will close out Macon’s 41st International Cherry Blossom Festival and will perform songs from classic rock bands like Queen, Fleetwood Mac, The Doobie Brothers, and more. Tickets for the Cherry Blossom Festival are $10 for festival goers over 10 (children under 10 receive free entry).
