Live Entertainment Spotlight in Middle Georgia this Week

The July 4th weekend is here and it will likely be a hot one. First Friday events will take place in Downtown Macon with live music, good food, and lots of art. On Saturday, the rock band The Smokestack will perform a free concert at the Big House Museum. The following are just a few of the cool ways to stay entertained this weekend in the Heart of Georgia.


FRIDAY, July 5th

FIRST FRIDAY IN DOWNTOWN MACON 

Another First Friday arrives in Downtown Macon will an art gallery crawl, live music at places like Fresh Produce Records, where the Fairly Weathered Friends will play starting at 5 p.m., and more. JBA will be celebrating its 5th year in business with music starting at 10 p.m. and lots of cold drinks. Kinjo Kitchen + Cocktails will be serving late night BBQ sandwiches and other snacks from 10:00 m. to midnight. If you have been wanting to visit Downtown Macon but wasn't sure when it was a good time to do so, a First Friday is a good time to head on down and see what the city has to offer.

FAIRLY WEATHERED FRIENDS AT FRESH PRODUCE RECORDS (5 p.m.)

Fresh Produce Records will become a music venue for the evening on Friday night with live music from the band Fairly Weathered Friends. This band play original music as well as mashups of cover tunes and you can listen to their music on their YouTube channel.

DJ CLARK AFTER DARK AT HOTEL 45 (6-9 p.m.)

DJ Clark After Dark will be spinning tuns at Hotel 45's rooftop bar on Friday night. There is no cover charge for this show.

FREE BIRDS & NIGHT OWLS PUBLIC MUSIC HISTORY WALKING TOUR (7-9 p.m.)

Rock Candy Tours will host another walking tour this Friday night with the Free Birds & Night Owls tour. The two-hour tour focuses on Downtown Macon’s commercial/nightlife district and is held every Friday night. The Free Birds & Night Owls tour starts at historic Grant’s Lounge and tickets cost $20 per participant and can be purchased on Rock Candy Tour’s website.

THE RELICS AT BILLY’S CLUBHOUSE (10 p.m.-2 a.m.)

The Atlanta rock band The Relics play at North Macon’s Billy’s Clubhouse early into Saturday morning.

DJ B3 AT JBA’S 5TH BIRTHDAY PARTY (10 p.m.)

DJ B3 will be providing the tunes to celebrate the 5th birthday of JBA. The club one existed in a small, dream-like space on MLK Jr. Boulevard but it has since expanded to a building on Cherry Street. The new JBA has three separate bar areas, a large stage, and a game room with pool tables and dark boards. The Middle Georgia community (at least those 18 and older) is invited out to get out, get down, and wish JBA a happy birthday on Friday night.

SATURDAY, July 6th

MACON MUSIC LIVE PRESENTS SMOKESTACK AT THE BIG HOUSE MUSEUM (7 p.m.)

The rock band Smokestack will be playing a free concert at The Big House Museum on Saturday as a part of the Macon Music Live series concerts. Attendees are invited to bring their lawn chairs to get comfortable while enjoying the music. Donations are accepted by the Allman Brothers Band museum and music venue.

LAURA & THE DALE RIVERS AT THE SOCIETY GARDEN (8 p.m.)

The band Laura & The Dale Rivers will be playing their brand of funk and southern rock music at The Society Garden on Saturday. The Society Garden started off as a beer garden and music venue that has now expanded to include an onsite restaurant, stadium seating, two bars, and spaces that can be rented out for events.

UNCLE DAVE’S WAYCROSS STAGECOACH AT GRANT’S LOUNGE (9 p.m.)

Uncle Dave’s Waycross Stagecoach features music from four separate acts, Uncle Dave Griffin, Andy Johnson & Trey Dunnahoo, The Pine Box Dwellers, and The Page Brothers & Elizabeth Rose. Then an Allstar Finale Tribute to Neil Young will take the stage. Tickets cost $12 at the door or online at this link.

FAIRLY WEATHERED FRIENDS AT FRIENDS ON THE HILL IN WARNER ROBINS (10 p.m.)

The Fairly Weathered Friends will be traveling over the hill to Warner Robins to perform at Friends on the HILL this Saturday. There will be no cover at this show.

BLUE AT BILLY’S CLUBHOUSE (10 p.m.-2 a.m.)

Blue is a rock band from Milledgeville who will be performing emo and pop punk music at Billy’s Clubhouse on Saturday night. There will not be a cover charge as usual.


SUNDAY, July 7th

REGGAE SUNDAYS WITH DEAN BROWN & DUBSHAK AT THE SOCIETY GARDEN (4-7 p.m.)

Dean Brown & Dubshak perform their original, easy listening music at The Society Garden every Sunday at noon. Jamaican-inspired food, bottomless mimosas, mocktails, and more are served during Reggae Sundays. The event is free and open to the public every Sunday at The Society Garden.
