Weekend Adventures in Middle Georgia

Downtown Macon and many other cities around Middle Georgia are still festively decorated with colorful lights and Christmas decorations for visitors taking a break from playing with their new toys. Many local stores will be having specials and sales. You can even go skating on ice at the Macon Coliseum every day this weekend. The following are just a few of the festive, family-friendly, and often free things to do this weekend in the heart of Georgia.


FRIDAY, December 26th

  >> Public Skating at Macon Coliseum (2, 4, 6, 8 p.m.)

Skate on the ice rink the Macon Mayhem use in the Macon Coliseum during one-hour sessions of public skating from Friday through Sunday this week. If you can't make it this weekend, there will be many more chances to skate in the Macon Coliseum until March 1st, 2026. Tickets to skate cost $12.35 on ticketmaster.com.

  >> BASKETBALL: Crawford County Christmas Tournament at Crawford County High School (12/26-12/27) (4, 5:30, 7, 8:30 p.m.)

This Friday and Saturday, the Crawford County Christmas Tournament will take place at Crawford County High School. Basketball fans will watch games with players from a variety of teams including the Eagles, Wilkinson County, Spencer Columbus, and Ace Charter.

  >> MUSIC: Old Flame at The Hummingbird (9:30 p.m.)

Old Flame will be entertaining the after-Christmas crowd at The Hummingbird on Friday evening. Old Flame has been performing for over 20 years and is also a producer who has been releasing music internationally since 2013. The Hummingbird will charge a $5 cover for this show.

SATURDAY, December 27th

  >> RUNNING: Holiday 5K and 10K at North Peach Park (8 a.m.)

Many of us are a few pounds heavier after eating more than our fair share at Christmas this year. For those of us who are also committed to trying to run some of that weight off, there will be a Holiday 5K and 10K in Byron's North Peach Park early Saturday morning. Packet pick-up starts at 7:30 a.m. There is a 2-hour limit for completing your race. The 5K registration costs $36.45 (with a signup fee) while the 10K registration costs $52.35. Sign up for either of these races at this link.

  >> PHOTOGRAPHY: Hay Bird #16 Scavenger Hunt Photography Meetup (10 a.m.-12 p.m.)

The Hay Bird #16 Scavenger Hunt Photography Meetup is a unique way for photographers, new or experienced, can explore Macon with the Macon Photography Group while practicing the art of capturing light (aka photography). This 2-hour walk will include host tips (like making sure to bring a camera), according to Macon. There are only 12 tickets available to this event. Tickets cost $49 online at this link.

  >> DINING: Brunch and The Patio at Rigby’s (11 a.m.-2 p.m.)

Enjoy a brunch (possibly with bottomless mimosas and Bloody Mary's) at The Patio at Rigby's this Saturday (and every Saturday and Sunday). If you do decide to imbibe during brunch, have a designated driver or a way home other than operating heavy machinery.

  >> SHOPPING: Mix and Match Holiday Sale at stARTup Studios (12-8 p.m.)

stARTup Studios will be having a Mix and Match holiday sale this Saturday. Shoppers can choose handmade glass and ceramic items from stARTup's sale tables for 3 for $30 or 6 for $50. stARTup Studios is open from 12 to 8 p.m. on Saturdays and 1 to 7 p.m. on Sundays.

  >> Madame Clarabelle’s Can Do Book Club and Kid’s Storytime at the Houston County Galleria Mall (1-3 p.m.)

Madame Clarabelle’s Can Do Book Club takes place every Saturday at the Houston County Galleria Mall's Wi-Fi Lounge in front of Forever Diamonds. This event is made for kids 2 to 5 years old and will include activities and stories from Madame Clarabelle. Parents or guardians must accompany their children at all times during this free event, which is open to the public.

  >> MUSIC: Roofdog at Grant’s Lounge (9 p.m.)

Roofdog will once again take the stage at historic Grant's Lounge this Saturday. This act's sound has been described as rootsy and that it combines the genres of rock, blues, country, and more. Tickets to see Roofdog can be purchased at the door or online at this link.

SUNDAY, December 28th

  >> Curtain Call: A New Year's Drag Show at Switch Macon (12-3 p.m.) 

The talented performers at The Empire Macon are presenting A New Year's Drag Show this Sunday afternoon at Downtown Macon's Switch Macon. While a little bit early, this New Year's celebration will include energetic and surprising performances from Hazel Moon, Sierra Prosecco, Taylor Vidalle, Valtorin Dynasty, and Zoya Marx. Curtain Call is an 18 and up event. Tickets start at $19.1o on eventbrite.com.

    > Switch Macon: 470 First Street, Macon


  >> The Speedy Steve Show at The Douglass Theatre (3:30-5 p.m.)

The Speedy Steve Show stars Stephen Duval and seeks to mix elements of the iconic Ed Sullivan Show and Showtime at the Apollo to create a unique variety show for Macon audiences. This event takes place in the historic Douglass Theatre.
