2025 is almost behind us, and the start of a new year is right around the corner. Go skating in the Macon Coliseum, thrill in the competition of a cornhole game at Emerson at Plum, celebrate New Year's Eve with family or friends, and kickoff 2026 in a healthy and unique way. The following are just a few of the engaging, educational (and often free) things to do this week in the heart of Georgia.


MONDAY, December 29th

  >> Public Ice Skating in the Macon Coliseum (2, 4, 6, 8 p.m.)

The Macon Coliseum invites the public to come ice skating for one-hour sessions of public skating every day this week. There are plenty of other opportunities to skate on the same ice as the Macon Mayhem until March 1st, 2026. Tickets to skate cost $12.35 on ticketmaster.com.

TUESDAY, December 30th

  >> Tuesday Night Cornhole at Emerson at Plum (7 p.m.)

Mactown Cornhole will be holding a cornhole tournament at Emerson at Plum on Tuesday evening. Mactown Cornhole hosts competitive cornhole tournaments where the winner gets a chance to win a cash prize. Signup is at 6 p.m., the games start at 7 p.m. Shootout costs $5 and there is also a $5 cooler fee.

WEDNESDAY, December 31st

NEW YEAR’S EVE

New Year’s Eve celebrations are taking place across Middle Georgia and the world on Wednesday, including the following.

  >> New Year’s Eve for Younger Crowds:

  >> HOCKEY: Macon Mayhem vs. Pensacola Ice Flyers on New Year’s Eve Party night (7 p.m.)

The Macon Mayhem will be celebrating the end of 2025 and the beginning of 2026 with a game of hockey against the Pensacola Ice Flyers on Wednesday. Expect a lot of excitement and a lot of scuffles on the ice. Tickets to this game start at $17.35 online at this link.

THURSDAY, January 1st

NEW YEAR’S DAY

  >> RUNNING: New Year’s Day Panera Run (8 a.m.)

Start 2026 off healthy with a brisk run starting at Panera Bread off Tom Hill Sr. Boulevard. Runners can choose different routes with different distances. After the run is over, participants are invited to meet back up at Panera Bread for a hearty breakfast. This Macon Tracks Running Club event is free to attend.

  >> HIKING: New Year's Day Hike on Brown's Mount (11 a.m.)

Start the year with a hike on scenic Brown's Mount on Thursday with members of the Fringed Campion Chapter of the Georgia Native Plant Society. Attendees are encouraged to wear comfortable hiking footwear, dress for the weather, and bring water (and a leash, if you are bringing your dog to hike with you). This event is free and open to the public.

  >> Envision Events presents All Black Affair (6-10 p.m.)

The All Black Affair will include music from DJ Ville Beats, drinks by Semaj on Drinks, and there will be food and hookah for sale, according to Envision Events. The dress code for this event is all-black. 25 and older to enter. General admission is $13.39+ in advance and $20 at the door.
