This week, the weather will occasionally be as sunny as the smiles of Cara Heard, Adrienne Berkland, and Erin Hawkins at the 5th anniversary party for 478 Creatives at Tanglewood Art Studios (Photographer Nate Weeks)

Middle Georgians should get ready for high temperatures mostly in the 90s and chances of showers and thunderstorms throughout the week, according to the National Weather Service's forecast. Stargazers this week can gaze at the brilliant blue-white star Spica as it appears near the Moon on Tuesday, if the clouds part enough to allow it. The following is the day-by-day weather forecast for this week in the heart of Georgia.

      ASTRONOMY FORECAST

On Tuesday, July 21st, the Moon will appear close to the star Spica in the constellation Virgo. Spica, also called Alpha Virginis, is about 250 light-years from the Sun, and is actually 2 stars that orbit each other every 4 days, but appear to us as one point of light, according to Space.com. The light that comes from both of Spica's stars puts out over 10,000 times the light that our Sun does, and it can be seen with the naked eye as a blue-white sparkle. The Ancient Egyptians connected Spica with the goddess Isis, and it signalled the start of the season of Nile floods.
