Weekend Adventures in the Heart of Georgia (8/28-8/30)

Middle Georgians can enjoy events for lovers of cars, comedy, music, and theatre this weekend. There will be at least two comedy events for those looking for a laugh this weekend, with one at Macon's The Society Garden and the other at the Griffin Opera House. The following are just a few of the fun, interesting, and often free things to do this weekend in the heart of Georgia.

FRIDAY, AUGUST 28th

  >> Hot Rod Magazine’s Inaugural HOT ROD Power Fest 2026 in Hampton (8/28-8/29)

The inaugural HOT ROD Power Fest takes place this Friday and Saturday at Hampton’s EchoPark. This event includes pit road drag racing, competitive autocross, a car show and cruise-in, food vendors, live entertainment, family-friendly activities, and more, according to Hot Rod Magazine.   >> THEATRE: Alice by Heart at Macon Little Theatre in Macon (8/28-8/30) (7:30 p.m.)

Macon Little Theatre will present productions of the musical "Alice by Heart" this Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. "Alice by Heart" was inspired by Carroll's "Alice's Adventures in Wonderland" and it was originally presented by the Royal National Theatre in London in 2012, according to Wikipedia.com. The musical is set following the London Blitz during World World II. The Friday and Saturday performances take place at 7:30 p.m., while the Sunday performance is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. Tickets to "Alice by Heart" start at $17 online at this link.

  >> MUSIC: Ashes at Grant’s Lounge in Macon (9 p.m.)

Macon rock ’n' roll band Ashes will perform at the iconic Grant’s Lounge this Saturday. Ashes was formed in 2024 and is composed of Lewis Ashe (vocalist/guitarist), Chris Hankey (guitarist), Erik Wolstenholme (bassist), and Mason Wiley (drummer). The band released its debut EP in April of this year. Tickets to see Ashes this Saturday cost $10 online or at the door.

  >> MUSIC: Georgia Red Clay at the Hummingbird in Macon (9:30 p.m.-1 a.m.)

Southern rock band Georgia Red Clay will perform at Downtown Macon’s Hummingbird on Friday evening. Georgia Red Clay has supported acts like The Marshall Tucker Band, .38 Special, and Steel Magnolia, according to the Hummingbird. There will be a $5 cover charge at the door for this show.

SATURDAY, August 29th

  >> MUSIC: United We Rock at Heritage Park in McDonough (5-11 p.m.)

United We Rock is a one-night-only music festival featuring headliner Mother’s Finest, plus performances by NV, Unified Souls, Southern Rock Rises, and the Vintage Vixens. Michael Hix will host the event, which celebrates the memory of Rhonda Lewis, the 250th anniversary of the United States, and the 29th anniversary of the Jason T. Harper Event Center. Food trucks will be onsite serving food, drinks, and snacks, and attendees can bring small coolers, but no alcohol is allowed on the premises.   >> MUSIC: Vanara, FateJacket, The Quit and tinyWOLF at stARTup Studios in Macon (7 p.m.)

The Quit and tinyWOLF will open this show with music from the winners at stARTup Studios’ 2026 Battle of the Bands, Vanara and FateJacket. Doors open at 7 p.m., and the music starts at 8 p.m. Tickets to this show cost $10 in advance and $15 at the door.

  >> MUSIC: Barnstormer’s Presents Homegrown (Zac Brown Band Tribute Experience) at Barnstormer’s Grill & Event Center in Williamson (8 p.m.)

Homegrown will perform a tribute to country music’s Zac Brown Band at Williamson’s Barnstormer’s Grill & Event Center this Saturday night. This is an all-ages show and will take place at Barnstormer’s Grill’s indoor event venue. Tickets to see Homegrown in concert start at $32.80 online at this link.

  >> COMEDY: Biker/Comedian/Hypnotist Gary Michael at the Griffin Opera House (8 p.m.)

Michael is a voice-over artist with many years of radio work, an actor, writer, singer in a band, and much more, according to his website. Tickets to this show cost $31.24 online at this link.

  >> Comedy Macon at The Society Garden in Macon (10 p.m.)

Comedian Dan Frigolette and others will perform a late-night show at The Society Garden on Saturday. Frigolette has appeared on RJ Decker, OBX, Boardwalk Empire, and more, according to IMDb.com. Tickets to this show cost $20 online or at the gate.

  >> MUSIC: Mojo Thunder at Grant’s Lounge in Macon (9 p.m.)

Mojo Thunder is a four-piece rock band hailing from Kentucky and they will perform at historic Grant’s Lounge on Saturday night. One of the band’s newest songs is called “Burden of the Night.” Tickets to see Mojo Thunder live at Grant’s Lounge cost $10 online or at the door.

SUNDAY, August 30th

  >> BOOKS: Lauretta Hannon Author Talk and Book Signing at the Cathy Ivey Community Library in Macon (2-4 p.m.)

Middle Georgia’s Lauretta Hannon will read and sign copies of her new book, “A Priest Walks Into a Waffle House: Stories from a Gritty, Grace-filled Life,” at the Cathy Ivey Community Library this Sunday. Jessica Walden, President and CEO of the Greater Macon Chamber of Commerce, will introduce Hannon. This event is free and open to the public.
