Live Music in Macon this Week

The Cherry Blossom Festival continues with it this week and continues to bring several live musical acts to the stage at Carolyn Crayton Park every day and night of the week until Sunday. Here is a select list of some of the live performances taking place this week.


THURSDAY, MARCH 23

CHERRY BLOSSOM ORGAN CONCERT SERIES AT MULBERRY STREET UNITED METHODIST CHURCH (12 - 12:30 p.m.)

The organ concert series consists of daily half hour long organ concerts in the sanctuary of the Mulberry Street United Methodist Church. If you are not able to make this one, there will be a final concert on Friday starting at noon. These concerts are free to attend.

INTERNATIONAL CHERRY BLOSSOM FESTIVAL PERFORMANCES: BAS (3 - 4:30 p.m.), PARTS & LABOR (5 - 7:30 p.m.), YACHT ROCK REVIEW (8 - 10 p.m.)

BAS performs music that is a mix of rock, blues, and jam band tunes: their set begins at 3 p.m. Parts & Labor is a rock, soul, blues, and jam band from Macon: they take the stage at 5 p.m. Finally, the featured performer for Thursday will be Yacht Rock Review. Yacht Rock Revue is a very large band that pays tribute to 1970’s light rock with their music and style. These concerts are free with admission into Carolyn Crayton Park: general admission is $10 for all visitors 11 years old and older (children 10 and under get in free).

JAZZ AT THE HAY HOUSE PRESENTED BY JAZZ ASSOCIATION OF MACON (6:30 - 8:30 p.m.)

The Hay House is known as the “Palace of the South” for its elegant classical style and it will be filled with the sounds of jazz on Thursday night. This musical event costs $35 to attend.

HUGHES TAYLOR BAND AT GRANT’S LOUNGE (9 p.m. - 12 a.m.)

Hughes Taylor is a guitarist and singer from Macon who plays a soulful mix of blues and rock. Taylor’s “Modern Nostalgia” was released in 2021 and he currently is working on a 5th studio album. Tickets for this performance cost $10.

FRIDAY, MARCH 24

INTERNATIONAL CHERRY BLOSSOM FESTIVAL PERFORMANCES: JOSH COURSON (3 - 4:30 p.m.), JB STRAUSS (5:30 - 7 p.m.), ELI YOUNG BAND (8 - 10 p.m.)

Josh Courson is a singer and songwriter from Macon who plays country music: his set will begin at 3 p.m. JB Strauss is another talented local country musician: he will begin his performance at 5:30 p.m. Finally, the Eli Young Band is the featured act of the evening. This country music band has had four singles reach No. 1 in the Billboard country music charts. These concerts are free with admission into Carolyn Crayton Park: general admission is $10 for all visitors 11 years old and older (children 10 and under get in free).

JBA REOPENS AT NEW LOCATION AT 425 CHERRY STREET (4 p.m.)

JBA is moving from the corner to a prime position on Cherry Street (where the Thirsty Turtle used to be). This entertainment venue and bar will now have a lot more space to bring live music to Downtown Macon and patrons can be the first to see the new location this Friday.



LEON TIMBO AT THE SOCIETY GARDEN (8:30 - 11:30 p.m.)

Leon Timbo was raised in the church in Jacksonville, Florida with both his parents being pastors. Timbo’s style is a mix “vintage soul, gospel, folk, R&B, funk, dance music, and even modern blues”. The Society Garden often has a cover charge that begins before the performance.

BLUE TALK AT THE HUMMINGBIRD (10 p.m.)

This band formed at Mississippi State University and they have played a music festivals and notable entertainment venues in Mississippi. Their music has been described as an “original brand of Funk and Neo-soul”. The Hummingbird Stage and Taproom has a cover charge of $5.

SATURDAY, MARCH 25

INTERNATIONAL CHERRY BLOSSOM FESTIVAL PERFORMANCES: ARTHUR “BO” PONDER (12:30 - 2 p.m.), BLAK9EARL N THE MOONCHILD (3 - 4 p.m.), AND MOTHER’S FINEST (8 - 10 p.m.)

Three musical acts will perform at Carolyn Crayton Park on Saturday. Arthur “Bo” Ponder is a singer, songwriter, and recording artist who took over Otis Redding’s part as lead singer in the “Johnny Jenkins & the Pine Toppers”: Ponder’s set will being at 12:30 p.m. Blak9earl N the Moonchild will perform starting at 3 p.m.: Blak9earl is a local rhythm and blues singer. Finally, the featured act of Thursday will be Mother’s Finest, whose set starts at 8 p.m. Mother’s Finest is a rock band from Atlanta who formed in 1970 and went on to open for acts like Black Sabbath, The Who, and AC/DC. These concerts are free with admission into Carolyn Crayton Park: general admission is $10 for all visitors 11 years old and older (children 10 and under get in free).

BACH GOES TO FRANCE AT ST. JOSEPH CATHOLIC CHURCH (7 - 9 p.m.)

The J. Scott Thompson Band will perform during the Saint Patrick’s Day Bash at The Society Garden on Saturday evening. This band plays music that mixes the country and soul music genres into a uniquely Southern sound. This event starts at 1 p.m. and goes to 11 p.m. and will include “green beer and dance circles around the green fountain”, according to The Society Garden. The Society Garden usually charges a cover charge at the gate starting a while before the band takes the stage.

CHRISTONE “KINGFISH” INGRAM AT HARGRAY CAPITOL THEATRE (8 - 11 p.m.)

Christone “Kingfish” Ingram is a young Grammy award winning blues guitarist and singer frrom Mississippi. He has received much acclaim in publications like the New York Times, Rolling Stone, Washington Post, and more. General admission tickets cost $32.

MATT MCMILLAN AND THE CITY LIMITS AT BILLY’S CLUBHOUSE (10 p.m. - 2 a.m.)

Matt McMillan and the City Limits will be performing country and classic rock hits at Billy’s Clubhouse on Saturday night. Billy’s Clubhouse does not have a cover charge.

SUNDAY, MARCH 26

INTERNATIONAL CHERRY BLOSSOM FESTIVAL PERFORMANCES: EG KIGHT (4 - 5:30 p.m.), FESTIVAL FINALE WITH MACON POPS (6:30 p.m.)

EG Kight is a blues singer, guitarist, and songwriter from Chicago who has worked with musicians such as George Jones, Conway Twitty, and B.B. King. The Macon Pops will perform c covers of popular rock and roll songs as the Cherry Blossom Festival's final performance. There will also be a fireworks show starting at 8:30 p.m., tethered balloon rides ($10) from 4 until 8 p.m., and more. These concerts are free with admission into Carolyn Crayton Park: general admission is $10 for all visitors 11 years old and older with children 10 and under receiving free entry.
