ASTRONOMY FORECAST
On Wednesday, July 15th, the Moon, illuminated at a dim 2%, will draw close to the Beehive Cluster, according to the Starwalk website. They can be observed through the naked eye or through binoculars in the constellation Cancer. The Moon's thin crescent will possibly be hard to see in bright twilight or when low above the horizon. The Beehive Cluster contains around 1,000 stars and looks like a small, indefinite object. When Galileo looked at the open cluster of stars, he was only able to see 40 stars. The Navajo people called the Beehive Cluster "Tsetah Dibé," which translates to English as mountain sheep, according to Space.com. Humans have gazed into the skies at night since before we had written languages, and looking up at unique celestial structures like the Beehive Cluster reminds us of the vastness of our universe at the same time as it highlights the smallness of many of our fears and concerns.
