This week there will be many community events taking place across Middle Georgia including a Veterans Day celebration in Eatonton, multiple free concerts in Macon, and much more. Here is a list of just a few of the events happening.
Monday, November 14th
Putnam County Veterans Day Ceremony (11 a.m.)
The American Legion Post 583 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6686 present a Veterans Day Ceremony at the Putnam County Veterans Wall of Honor on Monday. This event takes place in the Putnam County Veterans Wall of Honor Park, an almost 16,000 square foot park with six Honor Walls featuring the names of 1,754 veterans. The Putnam County Veterans Wall is located at 306 West Marion Street in Eatonton.
Tuesday, November 15th
Daybreak Day Resource Center’s 10th Anniversary Celebration (9 - 11 a.m.)
Depaul USA’s Daybreak Day Resource Center are celebrating 10 years of providing support services to displaced individuals in need in Macon. This celebration will also serve as a thanks to those who have helped Daybreak achieve their goals over the years. Daybreak Day Resource Center is located at 174 Walnut Street in Macon.
Wednesday, November 16th
Saxophonist Matt Patnode’s Guest Artist Recital (7:30 p.m.)
Saxophonist Matthew Patnode is a member of the FM Jazz Arts Big Band and has performed in commercial groups while backing up artists like Ray Charles, Frankie Valli, Wayne Newton, the Temptations, and the Four Tops. Patnode will give a free recital showcasing his talent on Wednesday evening. McCorkle Music Building’s Fickling Hall is located at 1329 Adams Street in Macon.
Thursday, November 17th
Happy Hour at Fire & Ice Exhibition (4 p.m.)
The Fire & Ice Exhibition features quality Ceramic and Glass items for sale through November 19th. This free event offers patrons 21 years old and up a glass of wine to sip while browsing all of the artfully made items on exhibit and for sale. The Fire & Ice Exhibition is located in the Round Building in Central City Park which is located at 115 Willie Glover Drive in Macon.
Friday, November 18th
Mistletoe Market Perry at the Georgia National Fairgrounds (9 a.m. - 6 p.m.)
This holiday shopping event features 100 vendors and shops from across the Southeast and takes place from Friday, November 18th through Sunday, November 20th. Tickets cost $5 per day. The Georgia National Fairgrounds is located at 401 Larry Walker Parkway in Perry.
Free Birds and Night Owls Public Walking Tour (7 - 9 p.m.)
Rock Candy Tours presents this walking tour every Friday night that focuses on Downtown Macon’s “commercial [and] nightlife district”. The begins at historic Grant's Lounge and ends at the Rookery. Tickets for this tour cost $15.00 and can be purchased online. Grant’s Lounge which is located at 576 Poplar Street in Macon.
Saxy Jaxx presented by The Mercer Jazz Ensemble (7:30 p.m.)
The Mercer Jazz Ensemble begins their new season with this free concert featuring guest saxophonist Matthew Patnode. McCorkle Music Building’s Fickling Hall is located at 1329 Adams Street in Macon.
Macon Pops presents Gershwin’s Greatest at the Grand Opera House (7:30 p.m.)
George Gershwin is the famous composer of such well-known compositions as “Rhapsody in Blue”, “An American in Paris”, and “I Got Rhythm”. This concert will feature vocalist Michelle Amato, saxophonist Mike Burton, and pianist Elizabeth Pridgen and showcase Matt Catingub’s award winning arrangement of Gershwin’s “Rhapsody in Blue”. Tickets cost $35 for orchestra level seats and $25 for balcony level seats and can purchased the Grand's website. The Grand Opera House is located at 651 Mulberry Street in Macon.
Saturday, November 19th
Eddie 9V at Grant’s Lounge (9 p.m. - 12 p.m.)
Eddie 9V released his debut album, Left My Soul, in 2019. This artist’s sound is influenced by a diverse group of musicians such as Albert Collins, Otis Rush, and Mike Bloomfield. Cody Matlock will also be performing “sweet southern soul music” at this concert. Tickets cost $15 and can be purchased on Grant’s website. Grant’s Lounge is located at 576 Poplar Street in Macon.
Champ Jaxon Band at The Society Garden (8 - 11 p.m.)
Champ Jaxon is only eleven-year-old but his singing and guitar playing sound beyond his years. Jaxon is a “blues-rock musician” who has “performed over 100 gigs with The Champ Jaxon Band”. The Society Garden is located at 2389 Ingleside Avenue in Macon.
Sunday, November 13th
Skydog 76 Musical Festival in Central City Park (12 p.m.)
Skydog is an annual benefit concert that celebrates Duane Allman's life and music as well as helps benefit the Daybreak Center. Admission to this event is provided with the donation of 10 or more of at least one of the following items: Toilet paper, Coffee and creamer, Spray deodorant, Disposable razors, Sugar, Cereal, Body wash, All-purpose cleaner and glass cleaner, or Tall kitchen trash bags. Central City Park is located at 150 Willie Smokie Glover Drive in Macon.
Mercer Women’s Chamber Choir and Mercer Singers present "Thanksgiving Song" (3 p.m.)
Mercer University’s Townsend School of Music presents “Thanksgiving Song” a free musical performance by the Mercer Women’s Chamber Choir and Mercer Singers. McCorkle Music Building’s Fickling Hall is located at 1329 Adams Street in Macon.
