Live Music Spotlight in Macon and Middle Georgia this Week

Talented musicians in Macon this week will be playing Christian music, classical music, rock and roll, and even lesser known genres like Appalachian Funk-Rock. The following are just a few of the shows taking place at venues in the heart of Georgia in the next few days.


THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 30

DANIEL DONATO’S COSMIC COUNTRY AND EGGY AT CAPITOL THEATRE (7 P.M.)

Daniel Donato is a 25-year-old musician from Nashville whose music recent album A Young Man’s Country mixes “outlaw country, Grateful Dead-style Americana, and first-rate songwriting”. Tickets to see Daniel Donato and Eggy in concert start at $20 on seetickets.us.

A FAMILY CHRISTMAS WITH WE THE KINGDOM & MATT MAHER AT THE MACON CITY AUDITORIUM (7 P.M.)

We the Kingdom is a Christian band and that also happens to be a family. Matt Maher is a Christian singer and songwriter who will also be performing at this concert on Thursday night. Tickets to see We The Kingdom and Matt Maher currently start at $12 on ticketmaster.com.

THE DIRE WALTZ WITH DIREWOOF AT GRANT’S LOUNGE (10 P.M.)

The band Direwoof, whose music celebrates the band The Grateful Dead, will be leading The Dire Waltz, A Tribute to The Last Waltz, on Thursday night. This will also be the official afterparty for the Daniel Donato’s Cosmic Country and Eggy concert at the Capitol Theatre. Tickets cost $10 on Grant’s website or at the door.


FRIDAY, DECEMBER 1

YAMMA BROWN AND LITTLE RICHARDS HOUSE BAND MACON MUSIC NIGHT AT THE MACON COLISEUM (7 P.M.)

James Brown’s daughter Yamma Brown will be performing along with Little Richards House Band on Friday night at the Macon Mayhem hockey game against the Birmingham Bulls at the Macon Coliseum. The theme for the night’s game will be Macon Music Night. Tickets to the Macon Mayhem game currently start at $15 on ticketmaster.com.

MERCER PERCUSSION ENSEMBLE AT MERCER UNIVERSITY’S TOWNSEND SCHOOL OF MUSIC (7:30 P.M.)

The Townsend School of Music’s Percussion Ensemble will be performing both traditional and non-traditional percussion music on unique instruments like the marimba, vibraphone, and glockenspiel. This recital show is free and open to the public.

GEORGIA COLLEGE DEPARTMENT OF MUSIC’S SIXTEENTH ANNUAL HOLIDAY CONCERT AT RUSSELL AUDITORIUM IN WARNER ROBINS (7:30 P.M.)

Georgia College will present its 16th annual “Holiday Concert” this Friday night. Tickets to this festive show are complimentary but a $10 donation per ticket is encouraged.

CANCELLED: AL AND ROB MOE.STLY ACOUSTIC AT THE SOCIETY GARDEN (8 - 11 P.M.)

Musicians Al Schnier and Rob Derhak of moe. are on an acoustic duo tour called “moe.stly” and they will be performing at The Society Garden on Friday night. Tickets to this acoustic show cost $20 on eventbrite.com.

THE CHORAL SOCIETY OF MIDDLE GEORGIA AND THE MERCER UNIVERSITY CHOIR PRESENT HANDEL’S MESSIAH AT ST. JOSEPH’S CHURCH (8 P.M.)

Conductor Dean Gary Gerber will lead the Choral Society of Middle Georgia and the Mercer University Choir as they perform Handel’s Messiah this Friday night at the historic St. Joseph’s Church. Tickets are $10 online but Mercer students and staff members will get in free with a Mercer ID.

WEST RIDGE CIRCLE AT JBA (10 P.M.)

The band West Ridge Circle (who started their band at a house on a street of the same name in 2021) will perform at JBA late Friday night. Their music combines blues, funk, and space rock and they released their debut album Nobody Home in late 2021. Tickets to see West Ridge Circle perform at Downtown Macon’s JBA cost $10 online or at the door.

SEVEN YEAR WITCH AND HEGO CRAZYBOY AT THE HUMMINGBIRD (10 P.M.)

The band Seven Year Witch is a rock band from South Carolina that will be performing at The Hummingbird this Friday. The Atlanta rock band Hego Crazyboy will be opening this show. Tickets to this show cost $5 at the door.


SATURDAY, DECEMBER 2

EDDY 9V AND THE VEGABONDS AT THE CAPITOL THEATRE (8 P.M.)

Eddie 9V is a musician and guitarist from Atlanta who quit school at the young age of 15 to become a musician and find a way to make his dream of recording in Macon’s Capricorn Studios a reality. Eddie 9V finally did that in 2021 for his third album. The Vegabonds is a group of “alternative southern rock road warriors” who will also be performing at The Capitol Theatre on Saturday. The doors open at 7 p.m. and the show starts at 8 p.m. Tickets to see Eddy 9V and The Vegabonds start at $22 on seetickets.us.

BOB LENNON WITH MAGNOLIA MOON AT THE SOCIETY GARDEN (8 P.M.)

Bob Lennon is a Middle Georgia rapper, singer, and songwriter whose unique musical style has gained him many fans in the area. The rock and roll band Magnolia Moon will be performing at The Society Garden as well during this concert. Tickets cost $15 on eventbrite.com or at the gate.

DIREWOOF PRESENTS JERRY CHRISTMAS V (10 P.M.)

Direwoof is a band from Macon whose music honors the band The Grateful Dead and its merry lead singer, Jerry Garcia. Tickets to this show starts at $10 at the door or on seetickets.us.

HU$H MONEY AT BILLY’S CLUBHOUSE (10 P.M.)

The Athens cover band HU$H Money will be performing songs with “psychedelic precision” at Billy’s Clubhouse late Saturday night. Billy’s Clubhouse never charges a cover.

A NEW VIOLET AT JBA (10 P.M.)

A New Violet is a pop-punk band from Orlando who have signed with Manic Cat Records. Their music has been influenced by bands like NOFx and Paramore. Tickets to see A New Violet perform at JBA cost $10 on JBA’s website or at the door.

DR. BACON AT THE HUMMINGBIRD (10 P.M.)

This band has a unique name and a unique sound: Dr. Bacon is an “Appalachian Funk-Rock” band from Asheville whose music mixes funk, soul, jazz, rock, blues, hip-hop, funk, and more. The Hummingbird will charge a $5 cover at the door for this show.

SUNDAY, DECEMBER 3

PATTERSON HOOD OF DRIVE-BY TRUCKERS (8 P.M.)

Patterson is a writer and performer who is best known as the singer, songwriter, and guitarist for the rock band Drive-By Truckers. Doors open at 7 p.m. and the music starts at 8 p.m. Tickets to see Patterson Hood start at $30 on seetickets.us.
