Live Entertainment Spotlight this Weekend in Middle Georgia

Macon music fans can catch talented musicians like Bob Lennon perform at venues like JBA (Photographer Nate Weeks)


Middle Georgia is a great place for entertainment this weekend with live music, wrestling, and more. Poetry fans can catch some talented performers at Churchills on Cherry on Friday while heavy metal enjoyers can see multiple bands for a very low price on Sunday at Friends on the HILL. The following are just a few of the entertaining performances you can catch this weekend.


FRIDAY, May 31st

NIGHT OF MUSIC WITH GARY MATHENY, KEITH BURNS, AND THE RED RIDGE RIDERS AT THE DOUGLASS THEATRE (7 p.m.)

Macon musician Gary Matheny and Keith Burns, formerly from the country music group Trick Pony (which had several hits like “Pour Me” and “Just What I Do”) will be performing along with B. Keith Williams and Friends and MC “The Magician” Mike Fuller at The Douglas Theatre on Friday. Doors open at 6 p.m. and the music starts at 7 p.m. Balcony tickets cost $25, main floor tickets cost $35, and VIP seating cost $50.

PERRY PRESENTS "GROOVIN' INTO THE SUMMER: WITH THE VINTAGE VIXENS IN HERITAGE OAKS PARK (7 p.m.)

The City of Perry is presenting another Perry Presents lawn concert this Friday evening with music from the band Vintage Vixens. As the event name implies, this will be a celebration of music from the era of Flower Power. There will be food trucks onsite but outside food and drinks, and well-behaved and leashed dogs, will be permitted. Groovin’ Into the Summer is a free event and it may be canceled due to inclement weather or other circumstances.

FUNKY BLUESTER AT FISH N PIG (7:30 - 10:30 p.m.)

The rock and roll band Funky Bluester will be playing at Macon’s Fish N Pig restaurant. Funky Bluester will be performing hit songs from the 60s and 70s and the band finds inspiration in bands like The Allman Brothers Band, The Who, and Santana. There is no cover charge at Fish N Pig (which is located at 6420 Moseley Dixon Road).

JAZZY ESSENTIALS WITH JANAE, BRI RICHARDSON, AND ESSENCE AT CHURCHILLS ON CHERRY (8 p.m. - 12 a.m.)

Jazzy Essentials is billed as a night of jazz, poetry, wine and cigars and performances from Janae, Bri Richardson, and Essence. In addition to the poets, a live jazz band is scheduled to play as well.

KARAOKE WITH DJ SMITTY AT MY BAR IN PERRY (9 p.m. - 12 a.m.)

DJ Smitty will be hosting a night of free karaoke at My Bar until early Saturday morning.

GIANT DENIRO AT BILLY’S CLUBHOUSE (10 p.m. - 2 a.m.)

Giant DeNiro is a rock band from Milledgeville with a unique sense of humor. The band recent released a single titled “Eternal Cat War” (warning, this song is not safe for work) that tells the story of a cat battle that went too far. Billy’s Clubhouse does not have a cover charge.



SATURDAY, June 1st

DJ PICKLES, BIG MIKE & THE BOOTY PAPAS, WASTED POTENTIAL BRASS BAND AT THE SOCIETY GARDEN (8 - 10 p.m.)

DJ Pickles, Big Mike & the Booty Papas, and the Wasted Potential Brass Band will perform at The Society Garden’s 4th annual Macon Mimosa Festival. The event continues on Sunday with performances from DJ B3, The Tribe Drag Queen Brunch, and Dean Brown & Dubshak. Tickets to the Macon Mimosa Festival cost $10 if you just want to hear some live music or $30 if you are 21 or older and want to try the bottomless mimosas. CAPT. MIKE & SHIPWRECKED (JIMMY BUFFET TRIBUTE BAND) AT THE SOCIETY GARDEN (8 - 10 p.m.)

Fans of Jimmy Buffet will be be singing along with hits like “Margaritaville” and “Son of a Son of a Sailor” as the band Capt. Mike & Shipwrecked play all the hits and some of his lesser known works as well. Tickets cost $15 at the gate or on eventbrite.com.

CLASSIC CITY WRESTLING AND KIMBERLY MORGAN YORK AT CAPITOL THEATRE (8 p.m.)

Classic City Wrestling will be coming to Capitol Theatre and Kimberly Morgan York, a country music musician from Athens, will be providing the soundtrack for the evening of wrestling. Tickets to Classic City Wrestling start at $15 online at seetickets.us.

JB STRAUSS’S “SAINTS OF THE SOUTH” ALBUM RELEASE SHOW AT GRANT’S LOUNGE (9 p.m.)

JB Strauss will be returning to Macon for this special event where he will be releasing his “Saints of the South” album. This show is for music lovers 21 and older and tickets cost $10 on seetickets.us.

HEDONISTAS AT THE HUMMINGBIRD (10 p.m. - 2 a.m.)

The rock and roll band the Hedonistas will be performing their funky music at The Hummingbird lat Saturday evening. There will be a $5 cover at the door for this show.


SUNDAY, June 2nd

HALFWAY TO YONDERWAYS AT FRIENDS ON THE HILL IN WARNER ROBINS (7 p.m.)

The Halfway to YonderWays concert will feature music from heavy metal bands Bless The Dead, Anger Within, Embering Effigy, and By Way of Fire. Tickets to Halfway to YonderWays cost $11.20 online at this link.
