Middle Georgians should prepare for high temperatures in the 90s for multiple days this week, as well as rain with some thunderstorms starting Wednesday and continuing through Sunday, if the National Weather Service's weather forecast is accurate. Skywatchers will be able to see earthshine, if clouds don't get in the way, on Tuesday and Wednesday when the moon's unlit part is visible because of light reflected from our planet. The following is the day-by-day weather and astronomy forecast for this week in the heart of Georgia.

ASTRONOMY FORECAST
On Tuesday and Wednesday night, earthshine should be visible after the New Moon. This celestial phenomenon is also called ashen glow, the old Moon in the new Moon's arms, or the Da Vinci glow, and it occurs when sunlight reflects off the surface of our planet and lights up the portion of the Moon that is unlit. This light is dimmer than the portion of the Moon that is lit. This same phenomenon is called planetshine when it takes place on the moons of other planets.
