Weekend Adventures in Middle Georgia: Comedy, Music, Fun on the Water, and More (5/22-5/25)

Memorial Day weekend brings with it lots of live music, a chance to help clean the Ocmulgee River while enjoying a relaxing float, and much more. Memorial Day is a time to remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice for their fellow countrymen, including Macon's own American hero, Rodney Maxwell Davis. During this weekend, we should all take time to remember those brave, and often young, people who lost their lives in service to our country. The following are just a few of the interesting, unique, and often free things to do this weekend in the heart of Georgia.


FRIDAY, May 22nd

  >> MUSIC: Party in the Plaza featuring Mad Margritt in Milledgeville (6-8 p.m.)

Milledgeville Baldwin County Allied Arts will start the Memorial Day weekend with live music from Mad Margritt this Friday evening. The Atlanta-based rock band will perform at Black Heritage Plaza as Middle Georgians gather in camping chairs and picnic blankets for a night of live music. Party in the Plaza is free and open to the public.

  >> MUSIC: Henry Cruz Band at Grant’s Lounge in Macon (9 p.m.)

Multi-instrumentalist singer/songwriter Henry Cruz will be performing with his band at historic Grant’s Lounge on Friday night. Cruz hails from another music city, Nashville, Tennessee, and has opened for Marcus King, The Cold Stares, and others. The young artist’s newest release, “The Big Nashville Record,” was released in October of 2025. Fans of the Allman Brothers Band, Al Green, and Tedeschi Trucks will likely enjoy this performance. Tickets to see the Henry Cruz Band perform cost $10 at the door.

  >> MUSIC: The Andrews Brothers Dueling Pianos at The Society Garden in Macon (8 p.m.)

The Andrews Brothers Dueling Pianos will bring their “all-request, sing-a-long, music and comedy show” to Macon’s The Society Garden on Friday to kick off the long holiday weekend. This band is based in Atlanta but can be found performing all around the southeast, from Athens to Savannah. Tickets to this show are $15 in advance and $20 at the door.

  >> MUSIC: Stranger Company at The Hummingbird in Macon (9:30 p.m.-1 a.m.)

If funk-infused rock and roll sounds like something you could get down to, the Atlanta band Stranger Company will perform at Downtown Macon’s The Hummingbird this Friday and early into Saturday morning. The Hummingbird will charge a reasonable $5 cover at the door for this show.

SATURDAY, May 23rd

  >> Float Daze’s 11th Annual Memorial Day Float at Amerson River Park in Macon (5/23-5/25) (9 a.m.-8 p.m.)

Float Daze will host its 11th annual Memorial Day Float on the Ocmulgee River from Saturday through Monday at Amerson River Park. During this yearly event, participants help clean the Ocmulgee River while floating leisurely through beautiful Amerson River Park with friends. Don’t forget your life jacket as currents in the Ocmulgee River can be overwhelming for the unprepared. There is no charge to participate in this floating event.

  >> Spring Bookish Art Fair at Gottwals Books in Warner Robins (10 a.m.-4 p.m.)

Gottwals Books of Middle Georgia will hold the Spring Bookish Art Fair this Saturday at its store in Warner Robins. Local artists and makers will be on hand, including The Honeybee Dragon, Lee & Rose Collective, J&R Creations, Chris Garrett, and more. There is no charge to attend this family-friendly event.

  >> MUSIC: Giant DeNiro at Amici Macon (8 p.m.)

Giant DeNiro is an experimental rock band from Milledgeville who will perform on the rooftop at Amici Macon this Saturday evening. Patrons at Amici can feast on pizza, wings, and more while enjoying the tunes from Giant DeNiro. There is no cover for this show.

  >> MUSIC: Ritmo Latino Festival at Jail Creek Farms Winery in Jeffersonville (12 p.m.)

The Ritmo Latino Festival will include live music, Panamanian dancing, Latin food trucks, and an assortment of arts and crafts vendors, as well as raffles, this Saturday in Jeffersonville. A military veteran is the owner of Jail Creek Farms Winery, so it is a perfect place to celebrate Memorial Day. This Ritmo Latino Festival is free and open to the public.

  >> MUSIC: Hash Cabbage at The Society Garden in Macon (8 p.m.-1 a.m.)

The improvisational jam band Hash Cabbage will be playing “Kozmic Psychedelic American Music at The Society Garden this Saturday evening. This band is based in New Orleans and is led by singer-songwriter Kenny Jefferson. The Society Garden will charge a $10 cover at the door for this show.

  >> TRIVIA: Shrek 25th Anniversary Trivia at The Brick in Macon (8 p.m.)

Talk Nerdy to Me will host another unique night of trivia, this time celebrating the 25th anniversary of the beloved “Shrek” film, at Macon’s The Brick this Saturday evening. Attendees are encouraged to wear Shrek-related costumes and compete for cash prizes. There is no charge to participate in this trivia event.

  >> MUSIC: Zach Person at Grant’s Lounge in Macon (9 p.m.)

Atlanta-based Zach Person plays indie rock and roll with a strong soul influence at Grant’s Lounge on Saturday night. Person performs on the distinctive Gibson SG guitar, which is Gibson’s bestselling electric guitar, and his latest album, “Let’s Get Loud,” is a tribute to the artist’s mid-20s. Person has performed across the United States as well as in Europe. Tickets to this performance cost $10 at the gate.

  >> MUSIC: Bob Jones at Ocmulgee Brewpub in Macon (9-11 p.m.)

Macon’s Bob Jones, of Bob and Blender fame, will perform late into the night this Saturday at Downtown Macon’s Ocmulgee Brewpub. Patrons will be able to enjoy Ocmulgee Brewpub’s late-night happy hour from 10 to 11 p.m. while enjoying Jones’ soulful performance. There is no cover for this show.

  >> COMEDY: Comedy Macon at The Society Garden in Macon (10 p.m.)

Nationally touring comedians Jenn Weeks (Chris Epps Presents), Dan Frigolette (Boardwalk Empire), and more will perform a late-night comedy show at Macon’s The Society Garden this Saturday evening. Tickets cost $20 for this comedy event.

SUNDAY, May 24th

  >> MUSIC: Mercer University’s Newton Chapel Sacred Harp Singing in Macon (4-6 p.m.)

Middle Georgia Shape Note Collective will present Sacred Harp singing at Mercer University’s Newton Chapel this Sunday. Sacred Harp singing is a traditional type of sacred choral music that involves a cappella singing and originated in the United States. There is no charge for this unique music concert.

  >> “10 Good Men” World Premiere at The Piedmont Grand Opera House (5 p.m.)

“10 Good Men” is a documentary that presents the amazing true stories of B-17 Flying Fortress veterans who fought in World War II. The 90-minute-long documentary focuses on the last 10 living WWII veterans who flew the iconic B-17 Flying Fortress, which was flown by exactly 10 crew members. Director Trent Jones will present a live question-and-answer session after the screening. This is a great way to remember those military members who have sacrificed so much for our country throughout the years during the Memorial Day weekend. Tickets to see the world premiere of “10 Good Men” cost $16 at the door.

  >> MUSIC: Harold Thomas and Danger Zone perform at Jazz in the Courtyard at the Douglass Theatre (7 p.m.)

Listen to smooth jazz music from Harold Thomas and Danger Zone outside of the historic Douglass Theatre this Sunday evening. Attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs to get comfortable during this outdoor concert. There is no charge for this family-friendly show.
