ASTRONOMY FORECAST
On Saturday, June 13th, the Moon will appear close to the Pleiades star cluster in the night sky. Skywatchers should be able to view the pair through the naked eye or binoculars/telescopes, though the Moon's thin crescent might make it more difficult to spot at times. The Pleiades is also known as the Seven Sisters and Messier 45. It contains over 1,000 stars, but only 6 or 7 are easily visible by using only eyesight. Ancient peoples appreciated the Pleiades for their usefulness in navigating the wide-open oceans. More recently, Polish-American ufologist George Adamski was among a small group of people who claimed to have been contacted by Nordic aliens who were said to have come from the Pleiades star cluster. Whatever you believe about the Pleiades, this Saturday is a great day to view them as they appear close to the Moon.
