Many people do not know about the long history of the land where Tattnall Square Park is now located but part of the park has been important to ancient animals and peoples for "tens of thousands of years".
Tattnall Square Park was created more than 30 years before New York City's famous Central Park and around 70 years before Atlanta's Piedmont Park, according to the Friends of Tattnall Square Park.
The Friends of Tattnall Square Park (FOTSP) is an organization founded in 2011 that seeks to "restore, preserve, and promote" the historic park. The Friends of Tattnall Square Park relies on tax deductible donations in order to continue their mission of restoring the beautiful, historic park.
The most ancient part of the park is a path that has been used for thousands and thousands of years: it was even used by prehistoric animals and later as "an ancient trading path for paleo-Indians and the ancient Creek Confederacy", according to FOTSP.
Tattnall Square Park is also the location of Macon's first playground, which of course has been updated many times over the years.
Today, Tattnall Square Park offers a serene place to take a stroll, play pickleball and tennis, and see a large variety of picturesque trees and plants that you often won't find in Macon outside of the park.
