PRESS RELEASE: Tubman Museum is “Partying with a Purpose” in 2025

On Thursday, January 16, the Tubman Museum kicks off a year-long series of fun events
for adults to celebrate African American music and culture and support Tubman
Museum's educational programs and services. The events are called Third Thursdays
at the Tubman
because they will take place on the third Thursday of every month in
2025. Each event will feature live music by DJ Skillz, food from the Salad Palace and
other local restaurants, a cash bar, and plenty of room for dancing and celebrating the
history of black music and the Macon music scene.

Third Thursdays at the Tubman is described as “Partying with a Purpose” because each
event celebrates a theme drawn from the Tubman Museum’s mission to educate
people about African American art, history, and culture. The Tubman provides a host
of popular cultural celebrations and educational programs throughout the year,
including the Pan-African Festival of Georgia, the Martin Luther King Day Community
Breakfast, the Pan-African Holiday Traditions exhibit, Living Legends: The Ancestors
Speak re-enactments, Summer Heritage Camp, Rock My Soul: Black Music Month
programs, and the Annual Juneteenth Celebration. All proceeds from Third Thursday
events throughout the year will go to support these and other educational programs
at the Museum.

Third Thursdays at the Tubman kicks off on Thursday, January 16th with Stepping into
2025
, an event focusing on African American Step and Line Dancing traditions. All local
Step Dancers and Line Dancers are encouraged to come to the Tubman Museum from
6:00 – 9:00 PM and show their talents. Admission to Stepping Into 2025 is $10.00.
Proceeds from ticket sales go to support Tubman Museum educational Programs and
services.
