Another week in Middle Georgia brings more opportunities to shake things up with new and interesting activities such as practicing tai chi in Eatonton, doing yoga under a full moon on Coleman Hill, listening to live music at historic venues like Grant's Lounge, and much more. The following are just a few of the unique and fun things to do this second week of June in the heart of Georgia.


MONDAY, June 9th

HEALTHY LIVING: Tai Chi for Health at the Eatonton Putnam County Library (3-6 p.m.)

Every Monday the Eatonton Putnam County Library, in partnership with the Middle Georgia Regional Commission Area Agency, will present a beginner-friendly Tai Chi for Health program. Studies have shown that a tai chi practice can reduce stress, help practicers gain better balance, and improve the health of your brain. Call (706) 485-6768 to register for this free program.

MUSIC: Hellhowler Tour with Casket Robbery, Autumn Lies Buried, Severd, and Necrofear at JBA (8 p.m.)

GMO Productions is bringing another evening of heavy metal to Downtown Macon’s JBA on Monday with music from Casket Robbery, Autumn Lies Buried, Severed, and Necrofear to start off the week. Tickets cost $10 before the show at $15 the day of the sale.

TUESDAY, June 10th

HEALTHY LIVING: Wild Heart Yoga’s June Full Moon Yoga and Fundraiser at Coleman Hill (6 p.m.)

Wild Heart Yoga will present another yoga class at Macon’s Coleman Hill this Tuesday. This unique yoga class will help raise funds for an aerial installation, where practitioners can do yoga while suspended in the air, at the nonprofit yoga studio Wellness Hug, according to Wild Heart Yoga. Attendees are requested to bring mats, water, and a donation for this all-levels yoga class.

Storytellers Macon presents “Glow Up” at Grant’s Lounge (6:30-8:30 p.m.)

Storytellers Macon brings another night of interesting true stories to Grant’s Lounge on Tuesday night. The theme for this month’s show is Glow Up and storytellers will tell 5 minute tales about “growth, transformation, and the light we carry or discover along the way.” The featured storyteller will be Laura Sugg, who is the Disability Coordinator at Centenary Church. This free storytelling event is for mature audiences as stories are not censored.

SPORTS: Macon Bacon vs. Boone Bigfoots at Luther Williams Field (7 p.m.)

Rumor is that videos and photos taken during this game may all come out blurry if Bigfoot curse occurs while the Macon Bacon face off against the Boone Bigfoots on Tuesday evening. If you can’t make it to Tuesday’s game, the Macon Bacon will present Movie Night, with entertainment from popular films on Thursday, during a game against the Peninsula Pilots. Also, on Saturday, the Macon Bacon will present Star Wars Night, featuring speciality Star Wars jerseys, themed drinks, and more, during a game against the Florence Flamingos. WEDNESDAY, June 11th

ONPPI’s Strategic Planning Public Meeting in Macon-Bibb (5:30-7:30 p.m.)

The Ocmulgee National Park and Preserve Initiative (ONPPI) will be holding a meeting on Wednesday to seek public input about the Regional Strategic Plan to help our community prepare for “the impacts and opportunities” that a national park would bring to Middle Georgia. This event is free and open to the public.

MUSIC AND FOOD: A Grand Night for Singing: Jazz, Pop, Broadway, and Light Music at Braddock’s Cask & Table (8 p.m.)

The contemporary restaurant Braddock’s Cask & Table will host a unique night of open mic music and singing on Wednesday. There will be 2 pianists for this unique event and food will be available until 9 p.m.

THURSDAY, June 12th

THEATER: Perry Players present Peter Pan Jr (6/12-6/14) (6 p.m.)

The Perry Players will present a one-hour production of the play “Peter Pan Jr.” starting this Thursday through Saturday. This production from the Perry Player’s summer camp students is suited for young people as well as the young at heart. Tickets cost $10 online at this link.

BIKING: Macon Bike Party: Tour de Bragg Jam (6-8 p.m.)

Macon Bike Party is a unique slow-paced bicycle ride that takes place through various neighborhoods in Macon throughout the year. Bike Walk Macon will present the Tour de Bragg Jam Macon Bike Party on Thursday evening. Bike riders are encouraged to dress up as famous Macon-related musicians and listen to music from the bands who will be performing at this year’s Bragg Jam concert crawl during the ride. Afterward, participants can meet at the Rose Room to listen to live music from one of the performers at this year’s Bragg Jam, Jak the Act. Participants must wear helmets to take part in the ride. The Tour de Bragg Jam is free to attend.

FRIDAY, June 13th

SPORTS: Macon Dad Proud Pickleball Tournament at Tattnall Square Park (6/13-6/14) (8 a.m.-8 p.m.)

Southern Pickleball will host a Father’s Day-themed pickleball tournament at Tattnall Square Park on Friday and Saturday this week. Singles will play on Friday and mens and women’s doubles and mixed doubles will play on Saturday. Skill levels range from 2.5 to 4.5+. Registration costs $55 online at this link.

FOOD: Sips & Savor: Crafted for Summer with Fall Line Brewing Co. at Loom Comfort Kitchen & Cocktails (6:30-9:30 p.m.)

Fans of Irish singer/songwriter Van Morrison will enjoy One Irish Rover this Friday at The Society Garden. One Irish Rover is a Van Morrison tribute band that perform songs from the different genres and eras of Morrison’s long music career. The Society Garden usually charges a cover at the gate that starts about an hour before the music.

MUSIC: Paul McDonald & The Mourning Doves at Grant’s Lounge (9 p.m.)

Paul McDonald is a singer/songwriter from Alabama who will be performing with The Mourning Doves at historic Grant’s Lounge on Friday evening. McDonald’s music has been compared to Rod Stewart as well as Bob Dylan. Tickets cost $10 at the door or online (with fees) at this link.

Rare Birds will be migrating to Macon from the band’s home base in Atlanta on Friday evening. This band plays a mix of rock and soul music. The Hummingbird will serve a $5 cover at the door for this show.

MUSIC: Goth Prom MMXXV at Friends on the HILL in Warner Robins (10 p.m.)

DJ B3 and DJ Willie D will perform at this goth-themed prom event at Friends on the HILL. Professional photographer Doug Nernberger will be on hand with a photo booth and the music venue and drinking establishment promises “bat dancing” starting at 10 p.m.

SATURDAY, June 14th

ART: 567 Center’s The Great Art Hunt (9:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m.)

Go on a search for 30 different locations of murals and sculptures located around Downtown Macon and help support the 567 Center’s mission of bringing creativity to Middle Georgia during The Great Art Hunt this Saturday. If you can find (and photograph) all 30 locations, you get a chance to win a prize package and the second place winner will receive a $100 gift card for art classes. Tickets cost $40 for an individual and $65 for a team of 2: teams of up to 6 people ($145) are welcome to participate.

Milledgeville Baldwin County Allied Arts invite Middle Georgians to Party in the Plaza this Saturday evening. This family-friendly event will include live music performances from Fall Line Rambler, Colin Pennington, and Zeke Norris as well as an impressive fire performance from Strange Bedfellows. The Jack Shealey Band will be performing “southern fried indie rock and soul” at The Society Garden on Saturday evening. Lead singer Jack Shealey is a native of the Everglades that plays “southern-swamp” rock music with his band. There will likely be a cover charge at the gate that starts around 7 p.m.
