This week in Middle Georgia, Macon Magazine's inaugural Macon Fashion Week will bring a variety of special fashion-related programs to multiple venues around Macon, several authors will speak about their books at free events from the Historic Macon Foundation, and music fans can listen to live performances from classical and country musicians. The following are just a few of the fun, and often free, things to do this week in the heart of Georgia. 


MONDAY, NOVEMBER 3RD

Completing the Look: A Fashion & Beauty Industry Mixer at Chic Culture (Macon Fashion Week 11/2-11/8) (1-3 p.m.)

Macon Fashion Week will include special events throughout the week, starting off with Completing the Look on Monday. This event is a professional networking experience for local fashion, beauty, and creative arts professionals, including designers, photographers, hairstylists, makeup artists, nail techs, and stylists, according to Macon Fashion Week organizer Macon Magazine. Young Designers Night at the Tubman Museum (Macon Fashion Week 11/2-11/8) (6-8 p.m.)

Students from the Bibb County School District will present brand-new fashion they designed and styled at Young Designers Night, another event from Macon Fashion Week. Students will also showcase “entrepreneurial pop-ups” during this complimentary event. Guests are encouraged to dress up as if attending a red-carpet event. Young Designers Night is free and open to the public.

TUESDAY, November 4th

Fashion: Past to Present at the Wesleyan College Leadership Lab (Macon Fashion Week 11/2-11/8) (5:30 p.m.)

Emily Allmond of Historic Macon Foundation, Dr. Loretta Clayton of Middle Georgia State University, textile artist and quilter Wini McQueen, and Lisa Sloben of Wesleyan College will present a fireside chat and presentations as part of Macon Fashion Week’s Fashion Past to Present this Tuesday starting at 5:30 p.m. Attendees are encouraged to dress in fashion from their favorite decade or “future ready.” Fashion Past to Present is free and open to the public.

GTX Glow Up: Facepaint and Bodyart Jam at The Belltower Collective (6-10 p.m.)

GTX Glow Up is an event for anyone interested in face painting, makeup for stage performers, cosplayers, festival attendees, and more. This drop-in friendly event includes light snacks and is for creatives of all levels. Tickets to GTX Glow Up cost $10 online at this link.

MUSIC: Jacob Keith Watson (Jubilee Artists Series Concert) at Fickling Hall (7:30 p.m.)

Jacob Keith Watson will perform in Fickling Hall on Tuesday as part of Mercer’s Townsend School of Music’s Jubilee Artists Series. Watson is an actor, singer, teacher, and Broadway performer from Arkansas. Jubilee Artists Series Season Subscriptions are available for $30! WEDNESDAY, November 5th

JFashion + Cosplay at the Wesleyan Leadership Lab (Macon Fashion Week 11/2-11/8) (3-5 p.m.)

Macon Fashion Week continues on Wednesday with JFashion + Cosplay at Downtown Macon's Wesleyan Leadership Lab. JFashion, also known as Japanese Fashion, and cosplay are popular fashion for participants at events like Dragon Con in Atlanta. Learn more, volunteer, or purchase VIP tickets for Macon Fashion Week at this link. MUSIC: Hayley Williams Listening Party at Fresh Produce Records (5 p.m.)

There will be a listening party called Ego Nites for Hayley Williams’ new album, “Ego Death at a Bachelorette Party,” this Wednesday at Downtown Macon’s Fresh Produce Records. Williams is a singer/songwriter best known as the co-founder and lead vocalist of the rock band Paramore. While the album won’t be released until Friday, November 7th, it will be available for purchase at this free-to-attend listening party event.

BOOKS: Book Discussion and Q&A with Tom Johnson (“Driven”) and Ed Grisamore at the Historic Macon Foundation (5:30 p.m.)

Author Tom Johnson, journalist, former CEO of the Los Angeles Times, and former president of CNN, will discuss his autobiography “Driven” with Macon Melody’s Ed Grisamore at the Historic Macon Foundation on Wednesday. Besides Johnson’s impressive career, he is also open about his lifelong battle with depression and work in the fields of mental health, cancer research, Alzheimer’s, and addiction treatment and recovery. This event is co-sponsored by the Historic Macon Foundation, Peyton Anderson Foundation, Knight Foundation, and Mercer University. THURSDAY, November 6th

BOOKS: Sidney’s Salon with Dr. Kathryn L. Beasley (“The Proof is in the Dough”) (6 p.m.)

Dr. Kathryn L. Beasley, author of "The Proof Is in the Dough: Rural Southern Women, Extension, and Making Money," will speak at Historic Macon Foundation's latest Sidney's Salon on Thursday evening. Dr. Beasley's book examines "how rural American women involved with home demonstration [programming between 1914 and 1929] used the skills they learned as a way to better themselves economically" and how the extra income from these programs helped them "shape their own producing and consuming habits." Light refreshments will be served at 5:30 p.m. followed by Dr. Beasley's presentation at 6:00 p.m.. Tickets to this Sidney's Salone with Dr. Beasley are free online at this link.

MUSIC: Lee Brice at the Macon City Auditorium (7:30 p.m.)

Country music singer and songwriter Lee Brice will perform at the Macon City Auditorium on Thursday evening. Brice has release 5 albums and also co-written singles with artists including Garth Brooks, the Eli Young Band, and Tim McGraw. Tickets to see Brice in concert currently start at $65.65 on ticketmaster.com.

MUSIC: Chamber Music Ensembles Concert at GCSU’s Max Noah Recital Hall (7:30 p.m.)

Georgia College & State University will present a Chamber Music Ensembles concert with small strings, winds, brass, percussion, keyboard, Jazz, and vocals ensembles playing music from across the ages. This Chamber Music Ensembles Concert will also be livestreamed online at this link. A $5 donation per attendee is encouraged: online donations can be made at this link , with all proceeds benefiting the GSCU Department of Music.
