Weekend Adventures in the Heart of Georgia (4/24-4/26)

This weekend in Middle Georgia, the adventurous can browse thousands of books at a book sale in Macon, taste sweet strawberries at the Georgia Strawberry Festival in Reynolds, celebrate the city of Gray with a family-friendly community festival, and much more. Bacon Fest 2026 returns to Luther Williams Field this Saturday with live music, a bacon cook-off, food trucks, and bounce houses, as well as lots of sizzling bacon. The following are just a few of the interesting, unique, and often free things to do this weekend in the heart of Georgia.


FRIDAY, April 24th

  >> Friends of the Library and Middle Georgia Regional Library’s Annual Book Sale at the Round Building in Macon (4/24-4/26) (10 a.m.-2 p.m.)

Shoppers can browse thousands of gently-used as well as like-new books, CDs, DVDs, and more at the Book Sale at the Round Building this weekend. Standard pricing is $2 for hardcovers, $1 for paperbacks and children’s books. The family-friendly event is free and open to the public.

  >> MUSIC: Perry Presents 90’s Rewind with Rock the 90s at Heritage Oaks Park (6-8 p.m.)

The City of Perry Government invites the public to gather in Perry’s Heritage Oaks Park for a free community concert on Friday, featuring the music of Rock the 90s. Unsurprisingly, the band will be playing hit songs from the 90s. This community event is free and open to the public.

  >> 27th Annual Green County Pro Radio in Greensboro (4/24-4/25) (8 p.m.)

The Green County Pro Rodeo will take place this Friday and Saturday night. Gates open at 6 p.m. This family-friendly event will include food for purchase and lots of exciting rodeo action. Tickets to the 27th annual Greene County Pro Rodeo cost $10 for kids 5 to 12, $20 for age 13 and up, and free for children 4 and under (cash only).

  >> Vintage Market Days of Central Georgia presents “Daisy & Lace at Georgia National Fairgrounds (4/24-4/26 10 a.m.-3 p.m.): Interior designers, decorators, and dealers will be on hand offering vintage and antique goods, clothing, jewelry, live plants, and more in a 60,000 square feet indoor market. Tickets can be purchased online at this link (children 12 and under get in free).


  >> Downtown Eatonton Farmer’s Market (5-8 p.m.): Find fresh produce, artisan bread, and unique handmade items at this farmer’s market from Eatonton Main Street.



SATURDAY, April 25th

  >> SHOPPING: Native Plant Sale at Smoke Stack Market in Macon (9 a.m.-1 p.m.)

Look for the enormous, historic to find the Smoke Stack Market off Vineville Avenue in Macon. The Smoke Stack Market takes place every Saturday, sun or shine. The Fringed Campion Chapter of the Georgia Native Plant Society will be selling plants native to our area and also educating shoppers about them. This event is free to attend.

  >> Oconee Valley Healthcare Teddy Bear Clinic in Eatonton (10 a.m.)

Oconee Valley Healthcare will celebrate the arrival of Dr. Greg Milroy with a unique special event where children can bring their favorite stuffed animal for an interactive Teddy Bear Clinic. Dr. Milroy and staff will treat the kids’ stuffed animals with a check-up, fixing any doll injuries, and give helpful tips about staying healthy at this free event.

  >> Just Tap’d Beer Festival 2026 in Macon (1 p.m.)

This annual event includes lots of cold beer, live music, and more. There will be non-alcoholic options available, as well as wine, ciders, and seltzers. The Just Tap’d Beer Festival is free to attend, while those 21 and older can buy beer tasting tickets at this link.

  >> Georgia Strawberry Festival 2026 in Reynolds (10 a.m.)

The annual Georgia Strawberry Festival will take place this Saturday in Reynolds. This family-friendly festival will include arts and crafts vendors, food vendors, a Berry Sweet Parade (starts at 10 a.m.), a Strawberry Patch Experience, 5K race, a Weiner Dog Race, and much more. Admission to the Georgia Strawberry Festival is free.

  >> Bacon Fest 2026 at Luther Williams Field in Macon (11 a.m.)

Middle Georgia will be celebrating all things bacon at Macon Bacon's Bacon Fest 2026 this Saturday. Historic Luther Williams Field will be filled with local vendors, while live music entertains attendees who can visit food trucks and bounce houses, all while enjoying bacon. Admission to Bacon Fest 2026 is free.

  >> 37th Annual Art & JazzFest with GCSU and Milledgeville Allied Arts at GCSU in Milledgeville (3-8:30 p.m.)

The 37th annual Art & JazzFest will include performances from local middle and high school bands, the Georgia College Alumni Band, and the GCSU Jazz Band with special guest trombonist Marcus Lewis. This family-friendly festival lets local schools show off their student bands in 30-minute-long performances, after which they receive feedback. There will be a raffle for 2 original artworks, with raffle tickets costing $5. Attendees are invited to bring picnic blankets and lawn chairs for this free event.

  >> MUSIC: Late Night Live Music at Ocmulgee Brew Pub with Mike Brookshire in Macon (8-10 p.m.)

Ocmulgee Brewpub isn’t just about tasty burgers and cold brews: the popular eatery also hosts live music. This Saturday evening, Mike Brookshire will perform for patrons, who will have an assortment of special deals to choose. There is no cover charge for this event.

Anchor of Hope Foundation is a nonprofit organization helping those with developmental disabilities and their families.


  >> Warner Robins AutoMania 2026 (9 a.m.): Automobile admirers will enjoy this automotive event featuring classy cars, vendors, and food trucks at McConnell-Talbert Stadium in Warner Robins.


  >> RUNNING: Great Strides Middle Georgia in Amerson River Park in Macon (9 a.m.): Compete against other runners in the Great Strides Middle Georgia 5K and help support the Georgia Chapter’s Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. Register for this race here.


  >> Main Street Gray Hometown Spring Festival and Col. Allen Carr 5K Race (10 a.m.-4 p.m.): This community festival will include the Col. Allen Carr 5K race (starting at 9 a.m.), live music, hot food, vendors, a cornhole tournament, car show, the “Hometown Hounds” Dog Show, and family-friendly fun with free admission.


  >> Among Our Relatives - A Color Walk Workshop and Artist Talk with Okcate Smith McCommas at the Ocmulgee Mounds National Historical Park (11 a.m. - 1 p.m. and 2 p.m.): Mvskoke artist Okcate Evita Smith McCommas will lead a color walk workshop for visitors 5 to 18 from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. at the beautiful and historic Ocmulgee Mounds National Historical Park on Saturday, courtesy of the Ocmulgee Mounds Association. Attendees will hear about plant and animal relatives’ stories from Okcate’s youth, and more. Okcate Smith McCommas will then give an artist talk for park visitors starting at 2 p.m.


  >> ART: Will Washburn Art Talk at Bear’s Books in Macon (5 p.m.): Patrons at Bear’s Books will celebrate Independent Bookstore Day this Saturday with an art talk from Will Washburn. This event is free and open to the public.



SUNDAY, April 26th

  >> MUSIC: Mockingbird 6th Anniversary in Macon’s Tattnall Square Park (1 p.m.)

The Mockingbird 6th Anniversary will take place in Macon’s Tattnall Square Park this Sunday afternoon. Attendees will enjoy music from a variety of acts, including Ginger Brown (2 p.m.), Matt McMillan (2:35 p.m.), Travis J. Bryant & Larson (3:10 p.m.), Half grass (3:45 p.m.), KCW Tho (4:30 p.m.), the Raspy Lemons (5:45 p.m.), The Open Seas (7 p.m.), and Modern Mischief (8:15 p.m.). This music-filled event is free to attend.

  >> ART: Art Supply Swap & Shop at Mill Hill Community Arts Center in Macon (1-4 p.m.)

Artspace Macon will host an Art Supply Swap & Shop this Sunday ath the Mill Hill Community Arts Center. Artists will drop off gently used/new art supplies and materials, then browse items brought by other artists. There will also be an art trade area where artists can swap artworks with each other and an artist market. The Art Supply Swap & Shop is free to attend.

  >> FRIDAY, May 1st: Last First Friday at Gallery West in Macon (5-9 p.m.): Celebrate Gallery West’s last First Friday event, and Kirsten West’s retirement party, with music from Caroline Aiken, Liz Melendez with Rob Sumowski, and EG Kight. Gallery West will also be having a 50% off photography sale during this event.


  >> SATURDAY, May 2nd - SUNDAY, May 3rd: The Cotton Fair in Gay (9 a.m.-5 p.m.): The Cotton Fair has been going on for more than 50 years, and it returns to Gay once more on Saturday, May 2nd, with over 300 artisans, racing pigs, entertainment from country musician Das Kasier, and more. Tickets can be purchased online or at the gate.


  >> SATURDAY, May 2nd: Greek Spring Fling in Macon (11 a.m.-7 p.m.): The Central Georgia Greek Festival will hold its Greek Spring Fling on Saturday, May 2nd, with popular, authentic Greek foods and drinks for hungry and thirsty visitors to Macon’s Holy Cross Greek Orthodox Church.

  >> SUNDAY, May 3rd: Open Streets Macon: Houston Avenue in Macon (2-5 p.m.): Open Streets Macon will turn Macon's Houston Avenue (from Newberg Avenue to Rocky Creek Road) on Sunday, May 3rd. This Bike Walk Macon event will be co-hosted with Macon-Bibb County's District 2 Community Family and Commissioner Paul Bronson. Open Streets Macon encourages people to get outside and enjoy a park made where cars are usually dangerously speeding through, joining families and friends to celebrate community and public spaces.
