PRESS RELEASE: Loosiers Furniture Express closing after 85 years

Family-owned furniture retailer begins total liquidation and sale of building MACON, Ga.

November 28, 2023 - After 85 years serving Macon and surrounding communities, family-owned and operated Loosier Furniture Express announced it is going out of business and will begin liquidation this week.

As Loosier Furniture Express prepares for its final days in business, third-generation owner Grant Loosier reflected on the values that have carried the company for more than eight decades.

“At the heart of our business philosophy lies a commitment to delivering unparalleled customer satisfaction. We have always made sure that our store is a place where people instantly feel at home, and we are so grateful for the way this community has supported us in return,” said Loosier.

Loosier Furniture Express begins its going-out-of-business sale on November 30th at 1673 Eisenhower Parkway beside Academy Sports. Across the 25,000-square-foot showroom, huge discounts on furniture include famous brands such as CrownMark, Albany, Southerland, HomeStretch, Southern Motion, Steve Silver, and Tennessee Enterprise. Heirloom rugs and home accessories will also be available for up to 70% off.

Management encourages early shopping for the best selection. The building is for sale and interested parties should contact Ryan Griffin at (478) 808-5733 or visit www.loosiersfurnitureexpress.com for more details.

Loosier Furniture Express was founded in 1938 as Loosier Furniture Store by Oscar Loosier in Barnesville, Georgia. Just two short years later, the store was such a success that he opened a second location 20 miles away in Thomaston.

In 1947, his son, Oscar Jr., decided to join the family business and opened Loosier of Albany Furniture Store after moving to Albany. That same year, Oscar Jr.’s brother, Everett, took over management of the Thomaston store. Although Oscar Sr. closed the original Barnesville location soon after, the Loosier family continued to gain recognition as a premier home furnishings store.

For 15 years the Albany store thrived under the leadership of Oscar Jr., who also served as president of the Georgia Home Furnishings Association during that period. In 1962 and 1965, Loosier Furniture Store expanded to two new locations in Tifton and Macon respectively.

Meanwhile, three of his five children, Grant, Eddie, and Mike, discovered their passion for the furniture industry and joined their father in running the family business. Mike, the eldest son, took over the Albany store, eventually opening a second location in the same city while Eddie simultaneously founded a new Loosier Furniture Store in Gainesville.

In 1984, Grant purchased ownership of the Macon location from his father. As his business grew, Grant decided to make a move from downtown Macon to the current Eisenhower Parkway store, and in 2005, he changed the name to Loosier Furniture Express. All other locations of the family business have since closed permanently.
