The 19th Annual Macon Movie Festival is scheduled to start on Thursday, August 15 with the international premiere screening of the movie “Red Fever”. This documentary is directed by Catherine Bainbridge and Neil Diamond, who is Cree. 

"Red Fever" examines why Native American culture is so fascinating to many non-natives as reflected in Western culture and identity. 

After the screening, there will also be an opening night after-party at the McEachern Art Center, where the “From Ocmulgee to Okmulgee” art exhibit will open. This exhibit is free and open to the public and will feature artworks from Muscogee (Creek) artists Jamie Bennett, Johnnie Diacon, and Kenneth Johnson with food, an open bar, and a DJ. 

Tickets to see the documentary “Red Fever” will cost $15 for a single block Macon Film Festival pass, while day passes cost $30, screening passes cost $75, and all access VIP passes cost $175 on tixr.com.

The Macon Film Festival is a four day long festival all about storytelling with film in many different genres, including intriguing documentaries, captivating short films, and mind blowing fulldome films, which are filmed in 360 degrees and projected on the the Museum of Arts and Science's large planetarium.

While there are many more films being screened from Thursday through Sunday, just for an example of the amount of screenings during the festival, on Friday, August 16, a variety of films will be playing, starting at 10:15 a.m. with the Student Shorts Block: The Future of Film (Georgia Sports Hall of Fame) and the documentary "Unlikely Allies" (Douglass Theatre

Then the movies will continue with Fulldome: Meditative Exhale at 11 a.m. at the Museum of Arts and Sciences. At noon, Narrative Feature: Al-Uh-Nated / What We Find on the Road. The festival will continue on Friday through 7 p.m. with eleven more films being shown at venues around Macon.

There will be movies for families during the Fulldome: Family Fun Block at 10:30 a.m., 12 p.m., and 1:30 p.m. and there will be a Fulldome: Teen/Young Adult Block at 3 p.m., all at the Museum of Arts and Science.

The 'South Got Something to Say', a new documentary from The Atlanta Journal-Constitution about Atlanta’s outsized influence on hip-hop is scheduled to be screened from 2 - 3:30 p.m. at Georgia Sports Hall of Fame

    • Saturday, 10:15 a.m.-5:45 p.m., and Sunday, 10:15 a.m.-5:45 p.m.
  • Museum of Arts and Sciences, 4182 Forsyth Rd. 
    • Saturday 11 a.m.-1 p.m.
  • Georgia Sports Hall of Fame, 301 Cherry Street

The comedic 'The Entire Lifespan of a Mayfly' is scheduled to be screened on Sunday, during the Narrative Shorts Block: The Nature of Relationships at the Georgia Sports Hall of Fame around 10:30 a.m.

Tickets to the Macon Film Festival start at $10 for a single block ticket for one film or $25 for a ticket where you can see all the films shown that day. For $150 you can get an All Access Pass which includes ticket festival screenings, parties/receptions, and access to a hospitality suite in the festival's headquarters as well as first-priority seating opportunities and special screening events, including on Friday night at the Museum of Arts and Sciences where the Night of the Immersive event will take place for All Access Pass holders and members of the museum, according to the festival's website.

The moving and surprising film 'Mangata' is scheduled to be screened on Sunday, during the Narrative Shorts Block: The Nature of Relationships at the Georgia Sports Hall of Fame around 10:15 a.m.
