Adventures in Middle Georgia: Things to Do this Week in the Heart of Georgia
This week in Middle Georgia there are special events taking place celebrating community, food, and food, including the GABBAfest 2024, Macon Pride, and more. The following are just a few of the interesting, and often free or inexpensive, events taking place this week.
MONDAY, September 23rd
NETWORKING: Lively Libations Social at Piedmont Brewery & Kitchen (6-8 p.m.)
Lively Libations invites Middle Georgians to come together for an evening of socializing and networking with live music from Yutova Avazé Leon and Keith Patterson. This event is part of Macon Pride 2024, and Macon Pride brews will be revealed. Macon Pride will feature special events through Sunday of this week.

TUESDAY, September 24th
MUSIC: Billy Strings Album Release Listening Party at Fresh Produce Records (5 p.m.)
Billy Strings, the popular guitarist and bluegrass musician whose album “Home” won the Grammy for Best Bluegrass Album in 2021. Fresh Produce often hosts special events, sometimes album release parties and other times intimate concerts and special music events, including an event this Thursday as part of GABBAfest 2024.

FOOD: $10 Tuesday Noodsdays! at Kinjo Kitchen + Cocktails (5-9:30 p.m.)
Kinjo Kitchen + Cocktails, which serves “Asian inspired soul food, with a pinch of Southern flair,” hosts $10 Tuesday Noodsdays! every Tuesday in 2024. Guests will be served $10 bowls of any of Kinjo’s ramen during the evening. The restaurant also has a Happy Hour from 5 to 7 p.m.

Rainbow Panel Discussion at McEachern Art Center (6-8 p.m.)
The Rainbow Panel Discussion will feature a panel discussion where participants will share their experiences and seek to promote understanding and create change with their words. This event is another officially sanctioned Macon Pride event.

WEDNESDAY, September 25th
Rough Drafts Book Club at Just Tap’d (5:30 p.m.)
The Washington Memorial Library celebrated its centennial in multiple ways this year, including the Books and Brews Reading Challenge, which features books that will be discussed during the Rough Drafts book club on Wednesday. The Rough Drafts book club is a bi-monthly book club where participants read untraditional books from genres agreed upon by book club members. This event is free and open to curious Middle Georgia readers.

AI: Text to Audio and AI in Song Creative at the Washington Memorial Library (6 p.m.)
This will be session three, the final session of this educational technology workshop, which teaches attendees about the field of text-to-audio conversion as well as AI-assisted song creation, according to the Middle Georgia Regional Library. Participants are encouraged to bring their headphones, or they can purchase them from the library for $2.

Broadway Does Pride at Grand Opera House (7:30 p.m.)
This event will feature local, talented musicians singing Broadway-style songs on the historic Grand Opera House stage. This is another event that is part of the ten-day long 2024 Macon Pride. Tickets to Broadway Does Pride cost $10 on tixr.com.

THURSDAY, September 26th
GABBAfest Meet and Greet with Neal Lucas and OTIS at Fresh Produce Records (5 p.m.)
The official kick-off event of GABBAfest 2024 will take place at Fresh Produce Records with a Meet and Greet with Neal Lucas, a singer-songwriter from Talbot County who appeals to both the “good ol’ boys” and the “long-haired hippy people” according to a recent article in The Local and OTIS, a band influenced by everything from Southern Rock to Motown and artists like Muddy Waters and Leadbelly. These musicians will also perform during GABBAfest this year.

Macon Pride Superstar: A Karaoke Contest in Third Street Park (6-8 p.m.)
This will be the first year for Macon Pride Superstar, which will feature Middle Georgians performing karaoke with other community members. Performers McKinley Starks and Yutoya Avazé Leon will host Macon Pride Superstar.

Music Bingo and Trivia with Pickles at Tap and Pour in Warner Robins (6-9 p.m.)
Music Bingo and Trivia with Pickets takes place every other Thursday and features music bingo and trivia. There will be prizes and gift cards given to the winners, according to the organizer. The theme for this event during the month of September is the 80's.
