Things to Do this Week in the Heart of Georgia


This week in Middle Georgia there will be plenty of unique and fun things to do, including attending the Macon-Mercer Symphony Orchestra on Monday, seeing the updated urban core master plan from the Macon Action Plan on Tuesday, or attending a variety of spooky, family-friendly events where you can get your fill of candy and treats. The following are just a few of the things to do this week in the heart of Georgia.


MONDAY, October 21st

Macon-Mercer Symphony Orchestra at the Grand Opera House (7:30 p.m.)

The symphony returns to Downtown Macon’s Grand Opera House on Monday with a concert led by guest conductor Rei Hotoda, music conductor of the Fresno Philharmonic. Macon’s current mayor, Lester Miller, will be joined by former Macon mayors Robert Reichert and C. Jack Ellis, in Copland’s Lincoln Portrait, reading excerpts about leadership from Lincoln's speeches, according to the venue. TUESDAY, October 22nd

MAP XL Reveal at Longleaf Distillery (5 p.m.)

The Macon Action Plan steering committee and Interface Studio will reveal MAP XL on Tuesday at Longleaf Distillery. MAP XL is the third iteration of the urban core master plan. Attendees will receive one free drink, and a press conference regarding the occasion will be held at 5:30 p.m.

WEDNESDAY, October 23rd

Steve Gonsales Live: A Life with Ghosts at The Capitol Theatre (8 p.m.)

Steve Gonsalves, from the paranormal television shows Ghost Hunters and Ghost Nation, will present an interactive theatre show titled A Life with Ghosts on Wednesday at The Capitol Theatre. THURSDAY, October 24th

Spirits in October - Saints and Sinners in Riverside Cemetery (6 p.m.-9 p.m.)

This event will feature “southern storytelling” from talented storytellers in Macon’s historic Riverside Cemetery. Riverside Cemetery and Conservancy’s Spirits in October will present a unique guided walking tour with actors representing spirits of some of Macon’s most fascinating now-deceased former inhabitants. Be My Neighbor Day at Washington Memorial Library (6 p.m.)

Local author Clarence W. Thomas Jr. will present a puppet show for "Be My Neighbor Day" at Washington Memorial Library on Thursday. Thomas wrote the children’s book "My Little Light” which is all about the power of kindness.

Haunted Hollywood: Murder Mystery Dinner at Fall Line Brewing Co. (6:30-10 p.m.)

Fall Line Brewing Co. will present a Haunted Hollywood: Murder Mystery Dinner on Thursday evening. The evening will transport attendees to the estate of Sir Warren Peace where murder will be on the menu. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m., dinner and appetizers will be served from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m., and the show will take place from 7:30 to 10 p.m. Guests are invited to wear fashions from the 1920s (like flapper dresses, feather boas, and fancy suits). FRIDAY, October 25th

Sweets & Treats in Downtown Perry (5-7 p.m.)

Sweets & Treats is a free, family-friendly event that will take place in Downtown Perry and include lots of trick-or-treating and kids dressed up in spooky and funny Halloween costumes.

An Electric Night at the Museum at the Museum of Arts and Sciences (6-9 p.m.)

The Museum of Arts and Sciences will host a Halloween and science-themed family-friendly event called An Electric Night at the museum on Friday. Attendees are invited to wear their favorite costumes and enjoy special guest shows from Michael Green, a photo booth, hands-on activities and crafts, planetarium shows, and more. Tickets cost $10 for the children of museum members, $15 for the children of non-members and adult members of the museum, and $20 for non-member adults on eventeny.com.

Macon-Bibb Recreation 5th Annual Fall Festival at Central City Park (6-9 p.m.)

The Macon-Bibb Recreation’s 5th annual Fall Festival is a free, family-friendly Halloween-themed event that will take place on Friday with “spooky surprises, live entertainment, free candy giveaways,” face painting, and more.

Barenaked Ladies and Toad the Wet Sprocket at the Macon City Auditorium (7:30 p.m.)

The Canadian rock band Barenaked Ladies, best known in the U.S. for their song “One Week,” will play a show at the Macon City Auditorium on Friday as part of the band’s In Flight tour. Toad the Wet Sprocket, who had several hits in the 90s with singles like “Walk on the Ocean” and “Good Intentions,” will be the opening act for this show. Tickets to this concert currently start at $55.75 on ticketmaster.com.

Same As It Ever Was: A Tribute to the Talking Heads plays the Society Garden (8-10 p.m.)

The Rocky Horror Picture Show at The Grand Opera House (9 p.m.)

The cult horror comedy movie “The Rocky Horror Picture Show” will be screened at The Grand Opera House on Friday night. This screening will follow a tradition where attendees dress up as their favorite characters, sing along at certain parts in the raucous movie, and use props (which are included in the price of the ticket this year) to accentuate memorable scenes. Cris Jacobs at Grant’s Lounge (9 p.m.)

Matt McMillan & the City Limits at The Hummingbird (9:30 p.m.- 1 a.m.)

Matt McMillan & the City Limits, a band that seeks to create “a modern take on Americana” music, return to The Hummingbird Stage & Taproom on Friday night. There will be a $5 cover for this show.

SATURDAY, October 26th

Jazz & Arts on Riverdale (12-6 p.m.)

The Jazz Association of Macon presents Jazz & Arts on Riverdale on Saturday. This free fall street festival will include live jazz music, art vendors, food trucks, and a kids’ area. Proceeds from the festival will benefit music scholarships and educational programming presented by the Jazz Association of Macon.

Fall Festival at Center Park at Centerville (10 a.m.-5 p.m.)

Centerville will host their Annual Fall Festival on Saturday. This family-friendly free event will include craft and food vendors, music, and activities. Attendees are encouraged to bring their lawn chairs and blankets.

Trucks at Treats at the Atrium Health Amphitheater (12-5 p.m.)

This Saturday, Trucks and Treats will take place at the Atrium Health Amphitheater. This Halloween-themed event will include decorated emergency and other types of vehicles, candy and treats, interactive games, arts and crafts vendors, live entertainment, and local food trucks. Lawn chairs are allowed at this free event.

Macon Mayhem v. Fayetteville Marksmen at Macon Oktoberfest Night (6 p.m.)

The 2024-2025 season of the Macon Mayhem hockey began last weekend and will continue on Friday and Saturday this week. On Saturday, the Mayhem will face off against the Fayetteville Marksmen, and the theme for the night will be Oktoberfest. Attendees will be treated to a “German-inspired beer-palooza” before the game begins, according to the team. Tickets to the game start as low as $13 on the Macon Mayhem’s website.

The Arc Macon’s Halloween Bash at Macon Terminal Station (7-10 p.m.)

The Arc Macon's Halloween Bash 2024 will include a dance party, silent auction, Magic Mirror Photobooth, and more. The event will help raise funds for the mission of The Arc, which provides community-based services for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities in Middle Georgia, according to the organization’s website. The Arc's Halloween Bash will take place in the historic Terminal Station in Downtown Macon. General admission tickets to this event cost $30 and table seating tickets cost $40 online at this link.

Tunnel of Terror at Tommy’s Express Macon (7-10 p.m.)

Getting a carwash isn’t usually scary, but the Tunnel of Terror is looking to change that. This “haunted car wash experience” returns this Friday and Saturday. Tickets cost $20.

House of a 1000 Britney’s Halloween Dance Party at The Society Garden (8-11:30 p.m.)

This quirky event invites attendees to dress up as Britney Spears, choosing whichever era of the music star suits you. DJ Pickles will perform on the venue’s main stage, and there will be a costume contest to choose the best Britney in attendance.

Comedy Show at Reboot Retrocade & Bar (9 p.m.)

Headliner Christopher Sho and Victoria James will perform at this free comedy show at Reboot Retrocade & Bar on Saturday night. This show is for attendees 18 and older.

SUNDAY, October 27th

Rose Hill Ramble at Rose Hill Cemetery (9 a.m., 2 p.m.)

Historic Macon and Rose Hill Preservation and Restoration, Inc. will present another Rose Hill Ramble this Sunday. This year, there will be two tours, both led by local historians. Kathleen O’Neal will lead a tour starting at 9 a.m., and Jim Barfield will lead the second tour at 2 p.m. This is a one-and-a-half-hour tour, so visitors are encouraged to wear comfortable shoes and sun protection and bring something to stay hydrated with. You can purchase tickets for $10 online at this link, and there will also be a limited number of tickets sold at the gate.

 > Rose Hill Cemetery - 1071 Riverside Drive, Macon

25th Annual Rhythm N Jazz Concert Series at Tattnall Square Park (6-9 p.m.)

The Rhythm N Jazz on the Dock/Concert Series’s claim to fame is that it is the longest-running concert series in Middle Georgia. The series has performed at every park in Macon, according to the organizers. This event is free and open to the public.
