Spring is in the air, and there’s no better way to celebrate than by attending events will your friends, families, and neighbors in Middle Georgia. Whether you’re an art lover, music enthusiast, foodie, or just looking for a great night out, Downtown Macon is the place to be on First Friday, March 7th. With live entertainment, delicious food, family-friendly activities, events to strengthen communities, and even the first ever Chef Challenge from Macon Magazine, this week has something for everyone.


MONDAY, March 3rd

On the Table Central Georgia

On the Table Central Georgia, which includes On the Table Macon and On the Table Milledgeville, is a community initiative from The John S. and James L. Knight Foundation that seeks to ignite important conversations within communities in Middle Georgia. On the Table Macon will take place from Monday, March 3rd through Friday, March 7th. The talks will cover a wide range of issues, from food insecurity, homeless veterans, community empowerment, and mental well being. and will take place at many different locations. Macon Magazine and NewTown Macon’s Dish it! Chef Challenge (3/3-/3/9) (5-9 p.m.)

Macon Magazine is partnering with NewTown Macon to present a brand new Chef Challenge contest. Dish It! involves culinary creations from three chefs in Downtown Macon who were asked to create a dish that most represents Georgia’s tastes. Participants can complete the Dish It! challenge by going to Oliver’s Corner Bistro, Dovetail, and Braddock’s Cask & Table, trying out each of the three dishes, and then voting for your favorite meal. Participants will receive a free Macon Magazine T-shirt and a year’s subscription to the well-designed magazine. Voters are asked to consider a donation to Middle Georgia Community Food Bank to help fight hunger in our communities. Oliver’s Corner Bistro’s Chef Matthew Hammock’s meal includes locally sourced, braised collard green and local applewood smoked bacon risotto, served with a grilled, wild-caught Atlantic salmon filet garnished with Asiago cheese and scallions. Dovetail’s Executive Chef Benjamin Banks’s meal is a BBQ-rubbed grilled pork tenderloin with turnip puree, braised mustard greens, pork jus, and cane sugar reduction.

TUESDAY, March 4th

Wit’s Fat Tuesday Birthday Extravaganza at The Hummingbird (8 p.m.-2 a.m.)

Celebrate Fat Tuesday (and Wit's birthday) this Tuesday at The Hummingbird with Mardi Gras beads and drink specials. Trivia with Robert also starts at 7:30 p.m.

THURSDAY, March 6th

Macon Bacon Job Fair at Luther Williams Field (4-7 p.m.)

Baseball fans looking for a summer job will rejoice to hear that the Macon Bacon are going to be hiring game day staff for positions like entertainment, concessions, customer service, ticketing, waitstaff, and operations. Luther Williams Field was built in 1929 and players like Pete Rose, Chipper Jones, and Andruw Jones, Sr. have played on its field.

From Clueless to Confident: Finding Your Ideal Investment Account at the Charles A. Lanford Library (5-6:30 p.m.)

Streets for All Fest 2025 (3/6-3/8) - Macon Bike Party: Decades Ride at Bike Walk Macon (6-8 p.m.)

Streets for All Fest will kick off Thursday and include "mix of rides, walks, and gatherings" around Macon through Saturday. Bike Walk Macon is Macon's "first grassroot bicycle and pedestrian advocacy group" fighting for safer streets that has been very active in Middle Georgia for a decade. The three day long Streets for All Fest will start with a free Macon Bike Party: Decades Ride on Thursday where you are invited to dress up the styles of your favorite decade and ride through Downtown Macon with the tour's Party Marshals Renee Corwine and Hailie Williams starting at 6 p.m. from Bike Walk Macon's office (830 High Street). There will be two events on Friday Celebrating Women in Public Space Design Bike Ride (5 p.m.) and Downtown Snapshots + Street Art Stroll (6 p.m.) that will cost $20 each. The Streets for All Fest will finish on Saturday with a Plaza Party to celebrate Bike Walk Macon's 10 year anniversary. There will be four more Saturday that you can read more about directly from Bike Walk Macon. All proceeds from ticket sales will help Bike Walk Macon with its mission. Basic registration costs $20 per activity and an All Access Pass costs $75 and both are available at this link and prices will increase on the day of the activities. Kids 10 and under can participate for free and Streets for All Festival is a rain-or-shine event.

MUSIC: Hotel California: The Original Eagles Tribute at the Plaza Arts Center in Eatonton (7:30 p.m.)

The Eagles tribute band Hotel California will be singing songs like "Desperado", "Take it Easy" and, of course, "Hotel California" at this concert on Thursday. Hotel California has been performing for over 30 years and the band prides itself on sounding and looking like the real band. Tickets to see Hotel California in concert currently start at $45 online at this link.

FRIDAY, March 7th

March First Friday in Downtown Macon (4-10:45 p.m.)

Another First Friday in Downtown Macon will include special, family friendly events like Seuss on the Loose (5:30-7:30 p.m.), shopping at unique shops like Rabbit Hole and Bohemian Den, an art crawl, live music, dining, and enjoying Spring weather. 

Those who participate in the art crawl can stop at the following art galleries on their way to visit the many galleries in Downtown Macon:

 - Macon Arts Alliance (486 1st St) for an opening reception for the exhibit "Blossom" (4 to 7 p.m.), which will include artworks from 25 local artists working in multiple mediums. 

 - 567 Center for Renewal (456 1st St) will host the opening reception for the 12th Annual Bibb County Schools Student Art Exhibition (5-8 p.m.), an exhibit which usually includes many impressive artworks from young local artists (456 1st St).

 - McEachern Art Center (332 2nd St) will continue its presentation of Vaivén with the colorful artwork of Kandy Lopez, who creates fascinating "yarn-based portraits" (6-8 p.m.).

Good Medicine will return with a launch of Cherry Blossom season whose catchphrase is Pink With Positivity. This free event encourages community, creativity, and positivity with a free Silent Disco, a Flow Arts Session, and an Arts Market as well as Positivity Battles (spoken work freestyle showdown) and more (Third Street Park).

Any “WHO” can Kazoo! First Friday Kazoo Jam with Visit Macon at Dunlap Park (4 p.m.)

Middle Georgians will get a chance to participate in the Guinness World Records Largest Kazoo Ensemble World Record attempt at the Atrium Health Amphitheatre on March 28th and Visit Macon will have a booth in Downtown Macon's Dunlap Park with kazoo-themed free items and kazoo lesson.

Seuss on the Loose in Third Street Park and Various Locations in Downtown Macon (5:30-7:30 p.m.)

As part of the celebrations of Dr. Seuss's birthday, Read Across America, and First Friday, during Read Across America Week, Seuss on the Loose is a family-friendly event with crafts with the one-and-only Rhonda Miller, games, live music, and book giveaways at several locations in downtown Macon. The children's band Green Grass Green will perform and there will be a character meet and great. Participating locations where you can go on a StoryWalk™, reading pages from Dr. Seuss books like "Green Eggs and Ham": Bohemian Den, Daphne’s 525, Piedmont Brewery & Kitchen, Mossy Creek Natural, and ClaytonCarter. There will also be booths from local organizations and businesses and a Scavenger Hunt at MD Exchange, Hello Boba Cafe, Longleaf Distilling, Piedmont Brewery & Kitchen, Mossy Creek Natural, and ClaytonCarter. Participating businesses that will have specials during Seuss on the Loose includes Sweet Eleanor’s Divine Desserts (Pink Yink Ink drink), Hello Boba Cafe (Screening Green Eggs and Ham), Piedmont Brewery & Kitchen (Go Dog Go Hotdog special), and 567 Center for Renewal (Free popcorn). Seuss on the Loose is free and open to the public.

21st Annual Pig in the Park in Dublin (3/7-3/8) (7 p.m.)

Downtown Dublin will host the two-day 21st Annual Pig in the Park, a St. Patrick’s Event at Dublin's Market on Madison. During the first day of the event, local band Gunshy will perform music from artists like Otis Redding as well as country, southern rock, and 80s/90s music. Pig in the Park will also include multiple food trucks, a Kids Zone Kids Zone with activities and inflatables and rides to purchase. A cornhole tournament will take place on the second day of the festival as well.

MUSIC: A Night of R&B and Southern Soul at the Atrium Health Amphitheater (7:30 p.m.)

A Night of R&B & Southern Soul features the singer, songwriter, and producer Charlie Wilson (aka Uncle Charlie) and special guests Dru Hill and Mike Clark Jr. will perform rhythm and blues and southern soul music at the Atrium Health Amphitheatre. A Night of R&B and Southern Soul is a rain or shine show, low back lawn chairs (9" legs or shorter) are allowed, and bags must be clear to enter into the venue. General admission lawn tickets cost $38 and seats start at $72 (with fees) on ticketmaster.com.

MUSIC: Canadian Tuxedo at The Society Garden (8 p.m.)

Canadian Tuxedo is a duo who sing and play violin and guitar. A $10 cover at the gate will start at 7 p.m.

MUSIC: Concertare: Cantatas & Concertos at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church (8 p.m.)

The Amethyst Trio is a classical music band from San Francisco will perform in the elegant St. Joseph's Catholic Church on Friday. Attendees will hear music from Bach and many other classical music composers on violin, cello, and piano. General admission tickets cost $20, discounted category tickets cost $10, and free entry will be allowed for those who can’t afford to pay at this link.

MUSIC: LadyCouch at Grant's Lounge (8 p.m.)

LadyCouch is a southern-rock jam band whose lead singer's voice reminds this writer of Loretta Lynn. The band's optimistic songs about the power of community will fit in perfectly in the Heart of Georgia. Tickets to see LadyCouch perform cost $10 online or at the door.

SATURDAY, March 8th

Family Aviation Day at the Museum of Aviation at Robins Air Force Base (9 a.m.-4 p.m.)

Robins Air Force Base will present a Family Aviation Day on Saturday. Guests can sit in open cockpits of real aircraft, talk with World War II reenactors, do STEM activities, and more. This family-friendly event is free and open to the public.

Macon Card Show at Holiday Inn (9 a.m.-3 p.m.)

Middle Georgia Sportscards and Collectibles returns to Macon on Saturday for another card show We are back!!! Next Card Show is 3/8/25 in Macon!! Holiday Inn exit 169 by Carrabas and the Outback! Show will run 9am to 3pm Free Admission!!!

38th Annual Forsythia Festival in Forsyth (3/8-3/9) (10 a.m.-5 p.m.)

The Forsythia Festival has been taking place since way back in 88 and is Forsyth's way to celebrate Spring's arrival. Downtown Forsyth's forsythia plants will be showing their yellow blossoms and attendees will be able to take part in the 'Hello Yellow' party, the Food Truck Frenzy, a cornhole tournament, a 5K run, the FaithFest singing competition, and a two-day arts & crafts festival.

Georgia Academy for the Blind Senior Fundraiser (10 a.m.)

Georgia Academy For The Blind's Seniors will host a Cornhole Tournament fundraiser on Saturday, presented by C&W Contracting Services. Participants will begin registration at 10 a.m. and the tournament starts at 11 a.m. There will be two divisions with three rounds followed by a Double Elimination Bracket play, according to the school. Entry costs $40 for a two-player team and 1st place winner will receive $500 with 2nd and 3rd place winners receiving $300 and $200 respectively. Players can also take part in the Fun Division which costs $20 per 2 player team and where the winners will receive gift cards.

Art Night: She Creates at Artspace Macon (6-8 p.m.)

She Creates will take place on International Women's Day and participants will be painting, collaging, or mixing things up at this event at Artspace Macon. Guests will create on either a 8x10 or 8x8 canvas, or their own journals or projects, using the art gallery's well-supplied art bar. The Jackson Tanner Trio, a psychedelic rock jam band from Macon, will take the stage at historic Grant's Lounge on Saturday night. Jackson Tanner will perform on guitar and vocals, Bert Mims will be playing bass, and Joe LePore will be pounding away on the drums. Doors open at 8 p.m. and the show starts at 9 p.m. Tickets to see the Jackson Tanner Trio cost $10 at the door.

MUSIC: Second Sunday - Choir of Babble on Coleman Hill (6-8 p.m.)

Bragg Jam’s Second Sunday Concert Series returns to Coleman Hill on Sunday with a performance from rock band Choir of Babble. The Macon band sounds a little like Nine Inch Nails, with a bit of Tool and A Perfect Circle, and some experimental music thrown into the mix to create a delightfully unique sound. Families and friends are invited to bring blankets or chairs, picnics, and even well-behaved dogs on chains. Second Sunday concerts are free and open to the public.
