The first weekend of 2026 will include the opening of two interesting art exhibits in Downtown Macon, a storytelling workshop from Storytellers Macon, a rodeo, and much more. Live music fans have a lot of choices this weekend, from Michael Cavanaugh performing at the iconic Grand Opera House to The Raspy Lemons putting on a indie music concert at The Society Garden. The following are just a few of the unique, fun, and often free things to do this weekend in the heart of Georgia.


FRIDAY, JANUARY 9th

ART: Opening Reception of A From One Eye Exhibit at Macon Arts Alliance (4-7 p.m.)

This Friday evening, Macon Arts Alliance’s January exhibit, “A View From One Eye”, which features artworks by wife/husband duo Kimberly and Michael Gillies. The Gillies' artwork focuses on the Scottish landscape and “creative spirit of its people” and includes watercolors, drawings, mixed-media paintings, and photography, according to the Macon Arts Alliance. A View From One Eye will be on display from January 9th to January 30th, 2026. This event is free and open to the public.

ART: Opening Reception of Photographer Jaey Fawkes’ The Veil Exhibit at The 567 (5-8 p.m.)

The Veil is a unique exhibit of photography from Jaey Fawkes at Downtown Macon’s The 567. This talented photographer has created an intriguing series of photographs of masked models that were taken across the country. According to The 567, the masks were made by hand by artist Indra Schaper from the Netherlands. Fawkes will give an artist talk at 7:10 p.m. Please note, mature content will be discussed during the artist talk, so it is not recommended for those under 18. The Veil will be on exhibit through January 30th at The 567, which is open Monday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., through January 30th. The opening reception for The Veil exhibit is free to attend.

MUSIC: Making Miracles: All Ages Karaoke and Silent Disco at The Society Garden (6 p.m.)

Court of Miracles will host Making Miracles, an all-ages karaoke and silent disco, at The Society Garden this Friday evening. There will also be two silent disco channels with a request line for listeners. Sign-ups for karaoke start at 5:45 p.m.

DANCE: Line Dancing Lessons at the Legion (6-7 p.m.)

Marc and Tina will be teaching patrons at the Legion how to Line Dance on Friday. This line dancing event is free to attend.

MUSIC: The Raspy Lemons at The Society Garden (7 p.m.)

The Raspy Lemons will be performing their classic covers and unique original local indie music this Friday night at The Society Garden. Tickets to see The Raspy Lemons performing at The Society Garden cost $10 online at this link.

MUSIC: Michael Cavanaugh in Concert at The Piedmont Grand Opera House (1/9-1/10) (7:30-10:30 p.m.)

Michael Cavanaugh will perform the music of Billy Joel, Elton John, and other iconic performers at the historic Grand Opera House this Friday and Saturday. Billy Joel himself chose Cavanaugh to star in Movin’ Out, a 2002 jukebox musical featuring the music of Billy Joel. Tickets to see Michael Cavanaugh in concert on either Friday or Saturday are available online for $47+ at this link.

MUSIC: NyteByrd at The Hummingbird (9:30 p.m.-1 a.m.)

NyteByrd wil perform rock, funk, rhythm and blues, classic rock, and dance music this Friday until early Saturday morning. The Hummingbird will charge a $5 cover at the door for this show.

SATURDAY, JANUARY 10th

Bears for the Boys & Girls Clubs at Wanna Tuft Studios (12:30 p.m.)

Downtown Macon’s Wanna Tuft Studios will host a Bear Drip Class this Saturday afternoon, where a portion of the proceeds will be donated to the Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Georgia. Attendees will create one-of-a-kind artworks using paint dripped on a small bear figurine. Tickets to participate in this unique painting class cost $40 and can be purchased at this link.

New Year, New Me: A Storytelling Winter Break Workshop Series from Storytellers Macon (1/10-1/31) (12:30-2 p.m.)

Storytellers Macon will be hosting a new workshop series titled New Year, New Me: A Storytelling Winter Break Workshop Series every Saturday in January at The Web in Downtown Macon. This workshop will be led by Storytellers Macon's Director of Fine Arts, Julia Morrison , and will involve “deep listening, evoking strong sensory details, breaking down barriers to empathy, and stage presence.” Tickets to New Year, New Me cost $120 (or $100 for Storytellers Macon’s Firecircle members) online at this link.

White Whiskers Adoption Event at Pet Supermarket (1-4 p.m.)

The 4 Paws and a Tail feline rescue will host the White Whiskers adoption event at North Macon’s Pet Supermarket this Saturday. There will be plenty of cute cats and kittens looking for loving families at this free-to-attend event.

Flow & Grow: A Mindfulness and Wellness Series for Kids and Teens at Wellness Hug (1-2:30 p.m.)

Flow & Grow is a 90-minute wellness workshop for young people led by a certified yoga instructor and school counselor with a decade of educational experience. This workshop includes kid-friendly yoga instruction, breathwork techniques, and mindfulness activities and is held the 2nd Saturday of every month. Parent supervision is not required. Ocmulgee Mounds Entryway Native Plant Garden Planting at the Ocmulgee Mounds National Historical Park (2-4 p.m.)

The Fringed Campion Chapter of the Georgia Native Plant Society and the Georgia Native Plant Society will be planting a second set of plants native to Middle Georgia at the entryway to the Ocmulgee Mounds National Historical Park this Saturday afternoon. Attendees are requested to dress for garden work with long pants, long sleeves, gloves, a hat, and work boots, and to bring a water bottle (and shovel, if possible). Participants must be at least 12 years of age, have an adult present if under 18, sign a waiver of liability before working, and wear a reflective vest while working, according to the organizers. Attendees are also requested to park in the park’s dirt parking lot (on the right after the gates) and walk back to the entry. This family-friendly event is free to attend.

ART: A Sky of Stars at Ethaerial Arts (2-6:30 p.m.)

Students at Ethaerial Arts will present their student showcase this Saturday. Ethaerial Arts is an aerial arts group in Dublin that is a member of the American Circus Educators American Youth Circus Organization. There will be snacks, drinks, and merchandise available for purchase, according to Ethaerial Arts. Proceeds from this family-friendly events will help students and Ethaerial Arts.

Walker Land and Cattle’s Rodeo in the Macon Coliseum (7:30 p.m.)

The Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association (PRCA) is coming to Macon Coliseum for the first time this Saturday for the Walker Land and Cattle's Rodeo. This will be the third-largest professional rodeo in Georgia, according to the organizer. It will feature skilled cowboys from the United States, Canada, Australia, Mexico, and Brazil competing in Bareback Riding, Bull Riding, Saddle Bronc Riding, Team Roping, Tie-Down Roping, and Steer Wrestling. The show will also include specialty events, giveaways, and more. Tickets to the Walker Land and Cattle’s Rodeo start at $25.15 on ticketmaster.com and can also be purchased at the Macon Coliseum's box office.

MUSIC: Climbing Capricorn Rave hosted by Lunar Lighthouse at T & Jay’s Bar (8:30 p.m.)

Court of Miracles first unveiled its Zodiac Rave under Capricorn in December 2024. The Climbing Capricorn Rave will celebrate the birth of all Capricorns with open decks, as well as a DJ set from Dankus and Lunar Lighthouse. The Climbing Capricorn Rave is free to attend.

SUNDAY, January 11th

Self Care Sunday Workshop at Wellness Hug (1 p.m.)

Wellness Hug will host a Self-Care Sunday Workshop this week that will lead attendees in a practice of pausing, resting, and reconnecting with gratitude. This workshop includes gentle yoga, breath work and meditation, guided journaling and goal setting, light refreshments, and more. BOOKS: Macon Community Book Club’s January Book Discussion at Z Beans Coffee (1:30-3:15 p.m.)

The Macon Community Book Club will host its January Book Discussion this Sunday afternoon at Z Beans Coffee in Downtown Macon. Attendees will be discussing Virginia Giuffre’s memoir, “Nobody’s Girl” (and possibly Kristen Hannah’s “The Nightingale”). Attendees should choose a book to nominate for Macon Community Book Club's February book club.
