ASTRONOMY FORECAST
The first full week of February isn't especially noteworthy in the astronomical realms, especially after following the beautiful Full Snow Moon on February 1st. There are several exciting astronomical events to be aware of happening this month.
- The first solar eclipse of the year, an Annular Solar Eclipse will take place on February 17th (unfortunately out of view of Middle Georgia). This type of eclipse happens when the Moon blocks the inner part of the Sun's disk, which leaves a brilliant ring of fire (called an annulus) around it.
- In late February, six planets will line up along the Sun's path to create a "planet parade". This event isn't exactly rare, but it doesn't happen every year and can generate excitement in the skywatching community.
