ASTRONOMY IN MIDDLE GEORGIA
On Wednesday, Comet 88P/Howell will reach its closest orbit to the Sun, which will be in the Capricornus constellation. With the moon a waning crescent at less than 1% on its way to a new moon, and no clouds interfering, skywatchers should get a good show. The March Equinox on Friday is the first day of spring in the Northern Hemisphere (as well as the fall in the Southern Hemisphere). This celestial event, also known as the vernal equinox, occurs when the Sun crosses the celestial equator, moving from south to north. This also means that the March Equinox marks the arrival of fall for those south of the border.
