The adventurous can learn new digital animation skills, enjoy live choral music, and much more this week. Star Wars fans can celebrate Star Wars Days on Monday (May 4th) with events that pay homage to the Star Wars media franchise at businesses like Macon's Cashman's Pub: May the Fourth be with you! The following are just a few of the interesting, educational, and often free things to do this week in the heart of Georgia.

MONDAY, May 4th

  >> ART: Introduction to Digital Animation at Cornerstone Academy and Design in Macon (5/4-6/22) (5:30-7:30 p.m.)

Creatives can learn all about digital animation at Macon’s Cornerstone Academy and Design during the Introduction to Digital Animation course. Students will be taught 2D and 3D animation techniques using industry-standard programs, including Adobe and Blender, while completing hands-on projects and learning the history of animation and methods for creating animations. This course will meet for 8 weeks every Monday evening. The cost for Cornerstone Academy and Design’s Introduction to Digital Animation and Design is $480 for 8 weeks in 2 installments of $240.

  >> Star Wars Day Trivia at Cashman’s Pub in Macon (7:30 p.m.)

Monday is Star Wars Day, which is observed every May 4th because of a pun “May the Fourth be with you,” which is a play on Star Wars’ famous “May the Force be with you.” Patrons are encouraged to wear Star Wars-inspired costumes to take part in a costume contest. Fanboy Collectibles & Comics will be providing the special prizes for this trivia event. There is no charge to play Star Wars Day Trivia, though Cashman’s recommends arriving early to get a table.

TUESDAY, May 5th

  >> Historic Macon Foundation’s 2026 Annual Meeting and Preservation Awards (5:30 - 7:30 p.m.)

Historic Macon Foundation (HMF), a nonprofit whose mission is to “revitalize communities by preserving architecture and sharing history,” will hold its annual meeting and Preservation Awards on Tuesday at the new Gilmer Warehouse & Logistics office in Downtown Macon. Piedmont Brewery & Kitchen will present appetizers while a Robert McDuffie Center for Strings violinist will perform before the business session. HMF’s 2026 Annual Meeting and Preservation Awards is free and open to the public.

WEDNESDAY, May 6th

  >> MUSIC: Choir School of Macon Showcase & Awards Ceremony at Christ Church (5:30 p.m.)

Christ Church's Choir School students will demonstrate what they have learned over the past year while The Christ Church Choristers and St. Cecilia Choir perform a showcase in the church’s Great Hall on Wednesday during the Choir School of Macon’s Showcase & Awards Ceremony. Christ Church was officially incorporated in 1825 and is known as the first church in Macon, according to the historic church’s website. This event is free to attend.

THURSDAY, May 7th

  >> Community Sandwich Making with the Middle Georgia DSA at Centenary Church in Macon (11 a.m.-12 p.m.)

The Middle Georgia DSA meets every Thursday at Centenary Church in Macon. Attendees will help make sandwiches to fill community fridges, and are encouraged to bring and donate supplies like bread, mayonnaise, meats, etc., if possible. This community event is free to attend.

  >> MUSIC: Alabama at Atrium Health Amphitheater (7:30 p.m.)

Alabama will bring its blend of traditional country and Southern rock music to Macon’s Atrium Health Amphitheater this Thursday. The band had a string of hits in the late 70s and into the early 80s. The band disbanded in 2004 after a farewell tour, but they reunited in 2010 and have continued to tour all over the world since then. Tickets to see Alabama were available for purchase on ticketmaster.com, but may be sold out.

  >> Friday, May 8th: Social Distortion Listening Party at Fresh Produce Records in Macon (6 p.m.): Fans of the band Social Distortion will gather at Fresh Produce Records next Friday to celebrate the band’s newest album, Born to Kill. Patrons will listen to the new album together, be eligible to win giveaways and prizes, and get a chance to purchase a variant of the album that can only be purchased at this event.   >> Saturday, May 9th: 21st Annual Fort Hawkins Archeology Day in Macon (12-4 p.m.): The Ocmulgee Archeological Society celebrates its 21st annual Fort Hawkins Archaeology Day, Georgia Archeology Month, and the U.S.’s Semiquincentennial this Saturday. This family-friendly event is free to attend and includes activities involving artifact identification and demonstrations. (736 Emery Highway, Macon)

>> Sunday, May 10th: Bragg Jam’s Second Sunday Concert with Sweet Diesel on Coleman Hill in Macon (6-8 p.m.): The honky tonk jam band Sweet Diesel will entertain music lovers in Downtown Macon’s Coleman Hill Park next Sunday. This family-friendly concert is free and open to the public. (285 Spring Street, Macon)
