      ASTRONOMY FORECAST

The June solstice, also known as the summer solstice, takes place on Sunday, June 21st. This event marks the start of the astronomical summer in the Northern Hemisphere (and the start of the winter in the Southern Hemisphere). The summer solstice is the day with the longest period of daylight in the Northern Hemisphere, and the Sun is directly over the Tropic of Cancer during this celestial event. While you might think that the sun is close to the Earth, since it marks the beginning of summer, it is actually farthest from the Sun during this time of year.
