This week will include many events for young people and the young at heart, including a puppet show, live music shows, and much more. Rigby's Water World is taking part in Worldwide Swim Lesson Day on Thursday for kids wanting to stay cool in the summer heat. The following are just a few of the fun, unique, and often free things to do this week in the heart of Georgia.


MONDAY, June 22nd

  >> Discovery Therapy Summer Sensational Camp at Discovery Therapy Network in Macon (6/22-7/8) (9 a.m.-12 p.m.)

Discovery Therapy Network will offer a Discovery Therapy Sensation Summer Camp from June 22nd through July 8th for children aged 3 to 14 who have autism or ADHD or who need assistance with social skills development, sensory processing, or emotional regulation.   >> MUSIC: TOAST - The Best of Bread at The Piedmont Grand Opera House in Macon (7 p.m.)

TOAST is a band that recreates the hits of the 70s hit band Bread and solo works from Bread’s founders, David Gates and James Griffin. Bread’s hits include “Make It with You,” “Everything I Own,” and “Lost Without Your Love.” Tickets to see TOAST in concert cost $36+ on tixr.com.

TUESDAY, June 23rd

  >> Ribbon Cutting at Gilmer Warehouse & Logistics Headquarters in Macon (3:15 p.m.)

The Greater Macon Chamber of Commerce will be hosting a ribbon-cutting ceremony at Gilmer Warehouse & Logistics Headquarters this Tuesday in Macon. Gilmer started out as a single warehouse and has grown into one of the largest family-owned third-party logistics providers in the Southeast, according to Gilmer’s website. This free community event will also celebrate Gilmer’s 40th anniversary.

  >> String Puppet Circus in Milledgeville at Allen’s Market in Milledgeville (5:30-6:30 p.m.)

Puppet Pants will present the String Puppet Circus on Tuesday, featuring puppet trapeze artists, creatures, and clowns. This show is created for children and will include jokes, stories, and audience participation. There is no admission fee for the String Puppet Circus, but the Milledgeville Baldwin County Allied Arts asks that you reserve your space online at this link.

WEDNESDAY, June 24th

  >> STEAM Labs: The Math of Doll Fashion at the Museum of Arts and Sciences in Macon (2:30-4 p.m.)

The young and the young at heart are invited to bring 16-inch dolls to the Museum of Arts and Sciences to learn how to use geometry to create “new, daring looks” for the dolls. No sewing is necessary during this family-friendly event. Tickets to The Math of Doll Fashion cost $10 for members and $15 for non-members and can be purchased online at this link.

  >> MUSIC: 4th Annual Pride Music Trivia at Cashman’s Pub in Macon (7:30-8:30 p.m.)

Talk Nerdy To Me will host an evening of music trivia about songs by “your favorite LGBTQ artists and allies” on Wednesday evening. This night of trivia will include audio questions and categories like Name That Tune, Finish the Lyric, and a Group Karaoke Sing Along. There is no charge for this unique trivia event.

THURSDAY, June 25th

  >> Worldwide Swim Lesson Day at Rigby’s Water World in Warner Robins (9-10 a.m.)

Take part in the 17th annual World’s Largest Swimming Lesson at Rigby’s Water World this Thursday. This global event is dedicated to water safety and drowning prevention. This event is free for kids aged 2 to 10 years old (parents must be present). Participants will meet in the Rigby’s Water World’s plaza. The maximum number of attendees at this event is 150.   >> Ice Cream/Wine Social at Switch Macon (7 p.m.)

Switch Macon, along with Shuster’s Candy & Creamery, will present a unique event on Thursday featuring ’90s ice cream and a wine flight with ice cream sandwich pairing. Patrons will receive 4 ice cream sandwiches and 4 wines. Tickets to Switch Macon and Shuster’s Candy & Creamery’s Ice Cream/Wine Social cost $30 online at this link.

  >> SATURDAY, June 27th: 5th Annual Taco & Tequila Fest at The Society Garden in Macon (1 p.m.): The Society Garden’s 5th Annual Taco & Tequila Fest will include top-shelf tequila tastings, margarita flights, specialty cocktails, 2 food trucks, Latin dance lessons, live music from Son Latino Band, and more.     >> CreekFest in Macon (4-10 p.m.): CreekFest will include two stages celebrating 10 years of radio station The Creek 100.9 FM and 50 years of The Rookery in Downtown Macon. This event is free and family-friendly. (Cherry Street, Macon)
