Georgia Transplant Foundation to Host Healthcare Education Conference in Macon
The Macon Trends in Transplant Conference: Increasing Healthcare Outcomes and Fostering Health Equity in Macon
The Macon Trends in Transplant Conference will take place on April 27th, 2024 at the Georgia Sports Hall of Fame located at 301 Cherry Street.
Attendees of the Macon TNT Conference can expect a dynamic and engaging experience filled with insightful presentations, interactive discussions, and inspiring personal stories.
Increasing Healthcare Equity Through Medical Education
The Journal of Education and Health Promotionpublishes that 36-55% of kidney transplant patients are nonadherent, leading to an increased risk of organ rejection. They report that many patients lack the knowledge and support for self-care and emphasize that patient education has a significant impact on treatment compliance and health outcomes.
Georgia currently holds one of the highest rates of Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) in the nation, ranking 48th. 2,579 Georgians are currently on the national organ waitlist for a kidney, representing 85% of all organ waitlist registrations (OPTN, 2024). The lack of self-care knowledge for kidney transplant recipients extends to all organ transplants, including heart, liver, and lung.
To combat the lack of self-care knowledge and improve health outcomes, GTF is proud to bring the Trends in Transplant Conference to Macon, taught by leading transplant surgeons and transplant professionals.
“Overall, attendees can anticipate a day filled with education, inspiration, and camaraderie as they come together to learn, share experiences, and gain valuable insights to navigate their transplant journey with strength and resilience.” reports Rita Michaels, Executive Director of Georgia Transplant Foundation.
