PRESS RELEASE: Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Georgia Helps Bring Fresh, Local Foods and Unique Agricultural Experiences to Middle Georgia Youth
Macon, Ga (June 26, 2024) - Yesterday, the Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Georgia (BGCCG), in collaboration with the Georgia Department of Early Care and Learning and The USDA, offered free nutritious meals to children and teens at the inaugural event of the Happy Helpings program.
The Food Service Kick-Off celebration took place at the Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Georgia Murphy Felton Tindall Unit at the Buck Melton Center, attracting youth and community members from Central Georgia. Participants not only enjoyed a complimentary meal but also engaged in various activities throughout the event.
The primary goal of the event was to highlight the abundant opportunities summer provides to introduce fresh, local foods and interactive agricultural experiences that encourage children to adopt healthy habits.
Attendees received more than just nutritious meals, as they also participated in physical activities like hopscotch, egg toss, bean bag toss, and jump rope. Moreover, children and teens had the opportunity to sample local fruits and vegetables and taste fruit- infused waters to promote hydration.
In partnership with Happy Helpings and the Georgia Department of Early Care and Learning (Bright From The Start), individuals in need can receive complimentary meals now through July 19 at 11 various locations through their Food Service Program. Meals will be distributed only during the specified times at each location. Click the link below to access information on each feeding site.
