Live Music and Entertainment Spotlight in Macon and Middle Georgia this Week

Middle Georgia music and entertainment fans in Middle Georgia have a wide ranging selection of events to attend during the next three days. There will be several free concerts, a two-day Honor Band music festival. The following are just a few of the unique events taking place from Friday, February 16th through Sunday, February 18th in the heart of Georgia.


FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 16th

OPEN MIC NIGHT: BATTLEGROUND EDITION WITH CHERELLE CLAY, EMBERTO COLBERT, JR, AND DEMARCO MCDONALD IN WARNER ROBINS (7 p.m.)

This Open Mic Night event will feature a house band and a singing competition with Prince Tailor and DeMarco McDonald, according to the organizer 44th and Madison Event Company + Venue. Doors open at 7 p.m. and there will be a Happy Hour from 7 to 8 p.m. Tickets start at $10 online.

“BANDS AT THE GRAND" MU WIND ENSEMBLE CONCERT AT THE GRAND OPERA HOUSE (7:30 p.m.)

“Bands at the Grand” is a two-day Honor Band music festival that is free to the public. On Friday, the Mercer University Wind Ensemble will perform March Ad Finem by Mercer University alum and Guest Composer Denzel Washington as well as the Star Wars Trilogy (John Williams/Hunsberger), music by Philip Glass, and more.

CONCERTARE: AN EVENING OF CONCERTOS AT ST. JOSEPH CATHOLIC CHURCH (7:30 p.m.)

The Amethyst Baroque Ensemble will perform an evening of concertos at St. Joseph Catholic Church on Friday. Talented musicians playing multiple unique instruments such as the viola d’amore, theorbo, and viola da gamba. A $20 donation is requested for this free concert.

STEEP CANYON RANGERS AT THE CAPITOL THEATRE (8 p.m.)

The Steep Canyon Rangers is a Grammy-winning Americana/bluegrass band. The band recorded their fourteenth studio album, Morning Shift in Bat Cave, North Carolina. The doors open at 7 p.m. and the music starts at 8 p.m. Tickets start at $25 online at this link.

The Steep Canyon Rangers featuring Edie Brickell performed “Atheists Don’t Have No Songs” almost a decade ago

ROAD TRIP: FLEETMAC WOOD PRESENTS SILVER STORMS BALL IN ATLANTA (10 p.m.)

The unique band Fleetmac Wood mix up the iconic music of Fleetwood Mac with different electronic music genres. Roxanne Roll and Alex Oxley are the two DJs who created Feetmac Wood back in 2012. They have performed at events like Glastonbury to Kantine am Berghain. Tickets start at $20 online at this link.


SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 17th

SIXTH ANNUAL GCSU DAY OF PERCUSSION: PERCUSSION WORKSHOP IN MILLEDGEVILLE (9 a.m. - 4 p.m.)

The Georgia College & State University will hold their annual Day of Percussion at the McComb building in Milledgeville (115 S. Wilkinson Street). The event will feature “hands-on master classes, clinics and performances for the public including “The Art of Practicing,” “Snare Drum Fundamentals,” “Cymbalism” and “Introduction to Mallet Percussion.” This is a free event but you must preregister at this link.

“BANDS AT THE GRAND” HONOR BAND FESTIVAL AT THE GRAND OPERA HOUSE (3 p.m.)

The second day of “Bands at the Grand” will feature music from more than sixty high school musicians from across the state. Erin Bodnar will be the conductor for this event. The second day of “Bands at the Grand” is free to attend.

726 ACOUSTICS AT PARISH ON CHERRY (6 - 9 p.m.)

726 Acoustics will be performing acoustic country music hits from today and the past. There is no cover charge at Parish on Cherry.

MIA DARJ’DE: A TRIBUTE TO R&B, FUNK, AND SOUL (7 p.m.)

The historic The Douglass Theatre will celebrate Mr. Charles H. Douglass’ 154th birthday anniversary with a concert from Mia Darj’de. Proceeds will benefit the Charles H. Douglass Student Scholarship which i awarded every year to an HBCU bound high school senior, according to The Douglass Theatre. Tickets to “A Tribute to R&B, Funk , and Soul start at $30 online at this link.

EMO NIGHT KARAOKE AT THE HUMMINGBIRD (8 p.m.)

Emo is a type of rock music known for its emotional and confession-filled lyrics and there will be a night of emo music karaoke with a live band at The Hummingbird on Saturday night. Tickets to Emo Night Karaoke cost $10 online at this link.

ROAD TRIP: ZZ TOP NOTCH AT GRIFFIN OPERA HOUSE (8 p.m.)

ZZ Top Notch is a ZZ Top tribute band that will be performing at the Griffin Opera House Saturday. ZZ Top Notch is a band who claim over 100 years of professional experience performing classic rock music. Tickets start at $27.75 online at this link.

EMO NIGHT KARAOKE AT THE HUMMINGBIRD (8 p.m.)

Emo is a type of rock music known for its emotional and confession-filled lyrics and there will be a night of emo music karaoke with a live band at The Hummingbird on Saturday night. Tickets to Emo Night Karaoke cost $10 online at this link.

MY BLOODY VALENTINE METAL CONCERT AT FRIENDS ON THE HILL IN WARNER ROBINS (8 p.m.)

Multiple bands from all over Georgia playing metal sub genres such as deathcore, thrash, nu_core, and metalcore will perform at this concert at Friends on the HILL. Doors open at 8 p.m. and the show starts at 9 p.m. Tickets cost $12 online at this link of $15 at the door.

CLASSIC CITY WRESTLING FEATURING THELMA AND THE SLEAZE AT THE CAPITOL THEATRE (8 p.m.)

Classic City Wrestling will bring another kind of show to The Capitol Theatre on Saturday with an evening filled with rock music and “live professional wrestling”. Tickets start at $15 online at this link.

THE GARRETT COLLINS PROJECT AT GRANT’S LOUNGE (9 p.m.)

The Garrett Collins Project will play rock, blues, and soul music with a “southern flavor” at historic Grant’s Lounge. Doors open at 8 p.m. and the music starts at 9 p.m. Tickets cost $10 on sale at the door or online at this link.

GROUND HUM AT BILLY’S CLUBHOUSE (10 p.m. - 2 a.m.)

Ground Hum will be performing hit 90’s rock alternative songs late into Sunday morning at Billy’s Clubhouse. There is never a cover charge at this North Macon’s bar and music venue.

FAIRLY WEATHERED FRIENDS AT JBA (10:30 p.m.)

The rock and roll band Fairly Weathered Friends will take the big stage at JBA late Saturday night. JBA usually charges a cover charge for their music concerts.

SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 18TH

STORYTELLERS MACON “IN THE BLACK” WITH THE URBAN CEO AT THE DOUGLASS THEATRE (3 p.m.)

This unique storytelling event will feature duo Malorie Gattis and Brandon Harris with a theme of the human stories behind entrepreneurship. Storytellers include Shermot Thomas, Ricardo Cordew, Veronica McClendon, Shira Lawrence, Maiesha Clark, and Chesney "Chachi" Butler. This free event is inspired by Pastor Dominique Johnson’s The Urban Leadership Academy.
