This week unique events and activities are occurring in Middle Georgia for music fans, budding historians, and those who just like to have fun with their family and friends. Macon is abuzz about National Kazoo Day at the Tubman Museum, several live music performances at local venues, and historical tours at Rose Hill Cemetery. Family-friendly options this week include puzzle night at the Washington Memorial Library and interactive exhibits at the Museum of Technology. Those seeing evening entertainment can find trivia nights, karaoke, and special concerts. Whether you’re looking for cultural experiences, live music, or casual outings, something interesting is happening every day across Middle Georgia.


MONDAY, January 27th

Medical Mondays at Hotel Forty Five (7 a.m.-4 p.m.)

Medical Professionals, like the rest of us, are probably not huge fans of Mondays. Hotel Forty Five offers them 50% off of Illy’s drip coffee and 25% off of specialty coffees on Monday to make things just a bit easier on Medical Mondays.

PBS Kids Week at Shurling Library (4:30-5:30 p.m.)

The Shurling Library will host a week of events from PBS Kids. The three different events are centered around Lyla in the Loop, a PBS KIDS show about “creative and strategic problem-solving and critical thinking skills.” On Monday, visitors will learn about. Control Structures & Human and Computer Systems. On Wednesday, they will learn about Algorithms, and on Friday they will learn about Design Process. MUSIC: Divine Inspiration featuring Tony Boutté and pianist R. Timothy McReynolds (7:30 p.m.)

Tony Boutté is a tenor from Louisiana who will perform with pianist R. Timothy McReynolds for a concert that will show appreciation for those who “inspire and support musicians on their creative journey.” This family-friendly event is free and open to the public.

TUESDAY, January 28th

National Kazoo Day at the Tubman Museum (11 a.m.–5 p.m.)

Celebrate National Kazoo Day with the Tubman Museum’s newest exhibit, exploring over 150 years of kazoo history. Dive into Macon’s special connection to this quirky instrument, enjoy rare archives, and celebrate musical icons who embraced the kazoo. Perfect for families, music lovers, and history buffs. Admission to the Tubman Museum costs $10 for adults and $6 for children and young adults (3–17).

Rotary Revival: Bluetooth Meets Vintage Tech at the Museum of Technology (11:30 a.m.–12:30 p.m.)

Experience the past colliding with the present as Middle Georgia State University showcases a gadget that pairs modern cell phones with rotary phones. A hands-on, family-friendly event that will make you rethink tossing out outdated technology that still holds some charm and usefulness.

MUSIC: Guest Arts Concert Songs of Sunshine, Love, Conflict, and Death at Max Noah Recital Hall in Milledgeville (7:30 p.m.)

Georgia College & State University hosts a captivating recital, Songs of Sunshine, Love, Conflict, and Death, featuring the works of composer David R. Peoples on Tuesday. The performance will feature members of the 1716 Collective of the University of North Georgia, Yue Yin (coloratura soprano), Benjamin Schoening (lyric baritone), and David Peoples (piano, percussion, and composer). There will be two world premiers from Peoples at this family-friendly concert which will include music for soprano or baritone and piano as well as literature from writers like Edgar Allen Poe and Emily Dickinson. The suggested donation for this dramatic concert is $5.

WEDNESDAY, January 29th

National Puzzle Day at Washington Memorial Library (5 p.m.)

There will be a celebration of National Puzzle Day at Washington Memorial Library on Wednesday. Little known fact, puzzles exploded in popularity during the Great Depression, selling 10 million puzzles per week! Guests will assemble puzzles in groups on the historic library’s second floor during this free National Puzzle Day event which is perfect for families as well as friend groups.

MUSIC: Ain’t Life Grand: A Musical Revue at The Grand Opera House (7–10 p.m.)

The Macon Civic Club presents its annual musical revue at The Grand Opera House on Wednesday night. The Macon Civic Club is a nonprofit organization that raises money for worthy local causes in Middle Georgia. The performance will celebrate the venue itself. Tickets: $15 (plus fees).

MUSIC: BASS in the Bell Tower at The Society Garden (7–10 p.m.)

BASS in the Bell Tower is a weekly family-friendly EDM event that features open decks with DJs MUSH and Kvizen, movement arts (think juggling and fire spinning), creative activities, and unique vendors. There is no charge to attend this family-friendly event for young creatives.

THURSDAY, January 30th

Trivia Night with La Bella Morelia Food Truck at The Society Garden (7–10 p.m.)

Test your knowledge with trivia at The Society Garden, and delicious food from La Bella Morelia, and get a chance to win drink tickets. This event takes place in The Garden Room when the temperature dips below 50°F so you can enjoy competing with family and friends in the comfort of a warm room.

MUSIC: Ladies Jam Night at The West Collective (7–11 p.m.)

Ladies Jam Nights take place every Thursday at The Belltower, which is operating as The West Collective until February 1st. Ladies Jam Night offers a safe, supportive space for women to jam, learn, and collaborate. This event is open to all musical skill levels.

MUSIC: Voice Faculty Recital Singing Through Life at Max Noah Recital Hall in Milledgeville (7:30 p.m.)

Georgia College and State University's Department of Music will present a faculty recital titled Singing Through Life this Thursday evening. Guests will hear a recital featuring art songs and arias spanning Baroque to contemporary music, including works inspired by Bob Dylan sung by Samantha Frischling (soprano) and Camilla Packroff (soprano). The suggested donation for this concert is $5.

FRIDAY, January 31st

MUSIC: Angel “Cash” Ocasio, Jr. & Cash’s Juke Joint at Crooked Finger Brewing in Dublin (7 p.m.)

Listed to soulful southern tunes with Angel “Cash” Ocasio, Jr. and Cash's Juke Joint at Dublin's brewpub Crooked Finger Brewing on Friday evening. Cash's Juke Joint's music is a mix of blues, soul, spirituals, swing, funk, and rock and Ocasio's shredding of a guitar is a sight to see.

MUSIC: Airshow at Grant’s Lounge (9 p.m.)

Airshow is a jam band from Nashville that will bring its blend of acoustic and electric sounds to Grant's Lounge on Friday night. The band was formed in 2016 by friends Cody Chelius (mandolin/vocals) and Steve Gallagher (guitar/vocals) as well as Bill Baker (bass/vocals) and John Rodriguez (drums/vocals). Tickets to see Airshow at Grant's Lounge cost $10 in advance at this link (plus fees) or at the door.

MUSIC: The Ashes at The Hummingbird (9:30 p.m.–1 a.m.)

The Ashes will be performing good old rock and roll music at The Hummingbird on Friday night and early into Saturday morning. If you can’t make it to see The Ashes on Friday, they will be performing at Billy’s Clubhouse on Saturday at 9:30 p.m. The Hummingbird will have a $5 cover for this show.

Grassfed is a band made up of talented musicians from Middle Georgia. Bob Jones, Bert Mims, Conrad Thomas, Matt McMillan, Zach Matthews, and Harry Gray are the members of the newly formed group.

SATURDAY, February 1st

Spirits @ 856 at The Cannonball House (5 p.m.)

Spirits @ 856 invites visitors to step into the past with costumed actors portraying historical figures in this guided tour of the historic Cannonball House. Tours will start on the hour from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tickets cost $15 for adults and $12 for children and young adults 10 to 17 years old. HOCKEY: Macon Mayhem v. Evansville Thunderbolts: Ocmulgee River Monsters Night (6 p.m.)

MUSIC: Eddie 9V with Paul McDonald at Grant’s Lounge (9 p.m.)

Eddie 9V makes his return to the stage at historic Grant's Lounge with special guest Paul McDonald on Saturday night. Eddie 9V's newest album Saratoga was released late last year. His music is a mix of southern soul, blues, rock, and funk and includes witty observations about our modern-day realities. Paul McDonald is a singer, songwriter, and performer from Nashville who will also be performing at this show. The doors will open at 8 p.m. and the show begins at 9 p.m. Tickets cost $20 in advance at this link (with fees) or at the door.

Resolution Ruiner Party featuring DJ TA$H at The Hummingbird (9:30 p.m.-1 a.m.)

If you need help ruining some of your New Year's resolutions, The Hummingbird and DJ TASH will be happy to oblige at the Resolution Ruiner Party on Saturday night. College Students (21 and older with Student I.D. will receive free entry. There will be a $5 cover at the door for everyone else at this event.

Historic Macon Cemetery Tours at Rose Hill Cemetery (2-3:30 p.m.)

Historic Macon, the organization that has hosted the popular Rose Hill Rambles for many years, is now offering tours on the second and fourth Saturday of each month. Kathleen O'Neal will serve as the historian and tour guide as guests tour the historic Rose Hill Cemetery and find out about all the famous, and infamous, people who call Rose Hill their final resting place. Tickets cost $15 per person and can be purchased at this link. Each tour group is also limited to 20 participants to enhance the learning experience.

SUNDAY, February 2nd

HOCKEY: Roanoke Rail Yard Dawgs v. Macon Mayhem: Salute to Service (3 p.m.)

The Macon Mayhem will be back on the ice on Sunday, this time playing against the Roanoke Rail Yard Dawgs. The theme for the game will be a celebration of our local heroes during this special Sunday game. Tickets start as low as $13 on the Macon Mayhem’s website and specialty jerseys will again be auctioned after the game.
