Adventurous people can learn to ride a bike in urban environments, celebrate Star Wars with trivia or a special yoga class, hear the funky sounds of bands like Mother's Finest, and much more this week in the heart of Georgia. The following are just a few of the unique things you can choose to do this week in large cities like Macon and in small cities like Talbotton.
TUESDAY, April 29th
Urban Confidence Intermediate Bicycling Course at Elaine H. Lucas Senior Center (6-8 p.m.)
Bike Walk Macon will offer a free intermediate bicycling course for adults (18+) at the Elaine H. Lucas Senior Center on Tuesday. This class will last 2 hours and meet in the center’s parking lot. Helmets are required to participate in this class. Bike Walk Macon will have a limited supply of bicycles for use by attendees. Pre-registration is recommended at this link.

MUSIC: Dead Day Celebrations: Bear Bash at Overlook (8-11 p.m.) and Dead Day featuring DJ Carlos at The Hummingbird (9:30 p.m.-1 a.m.)
College students will be celebrating Dead Day on Tuesday at the newest event venue in Downtown Macon, The Overlook on First, and the bar/music venue The Hummingbird. Dead Day is basically an academic prep day where most of the time there are no finals or classes. The Bear Bash at The Overlook will feature live music from the rock band Ashes, drink specials, photo opportunities, and a Just Tap’d sponsored “Bear Hunt.” The Hummingbird will celebrate Dead Day with live entertainment from DJ Carlos and drink specials. There will be a cover charge of $5 at the door (except for Mercer students with their student ID) for this 21 and up event.

WEDNESDAY, April 30th
Family Fun Night with PBS Kids at Shurling Library (4:30 p.m.)
This family-friendly event will include activities and crafts based off of the popular animated series “Work It Out Wombats”. Family Fun Night is free to attend.

THURSDAY, May 1st
Star Wars Night at The Hummingbird (8:30-11:30 p.m.)
Talk Nerdy To Me will celebrate 8 years of presenting Adult Star Wars Trivia and Cosplay in Downtown Macon at The Hummingbird on Thursday. This unique trivia event will include a costume contest and a special prize for the patron with the sexiest Star Wars-inspired costume.

FRIDAY, May 2nd
May First Friday in Downtown Macon (5-9 p.m.)
May’s First Friday will include lots of art exhibit openings, live music, and people walking around downtown and enjoying Macon’s nightlife. The following are a few of the events scheduled for this Friday:
- Gallery West will have an opening reception with complimentary light hors d’oeuvres and drinks for an exhibit featuring the fascinating artwork of local painter and artist Queso. (5-9 p.m.)
- Green Light Gallery will present an exhibit called "Transitions" made up of mixed media works by the talented artist Micah Goguen. (5-8 p.m.)
- McEachern Art Center will be celebrating the release of its 2025-2026 Exhibition Season with a local artist pop-up show. (7-9 p.m.)
- Artspace Macon will be leading a walking tour of art galleries located in Downtown Macon that will include a chance to meet with artists like Rhonda "Sunshine" Miller and her exhibit "Poker Face" at the 567 Center for Renewal from 5. to 8 p.m. Tour attendees will also visit Good Medicine’s May Flowers, a family-friendly event that includes a silent disco and dance party, live DJs, flow arts jam, and yoga in Third Street Park. . Tickets for the approximately 1.5 mile walk cost $10 on Artspace Macon’s website.
- The Ashes will be performing rock and roll music at The Hummingbird starting at 9:30 p.m. and there will be a $5 cover charge at the door.

MUSIC: Milledgeville’s Hometown Celebration with Alex Stone and the Tuesday Hangovers and the Nu South Playaz (5-11 p.m.)
The City of Milledgeville will celebrate a Hometown Celebration on Friday night that will include live student performances, local vendors, food and drinks, activities for kids, giveaways, and live music. Alex Stone and the Tuesday Hangovers will play from 5 to 7 p.m. and Nu South Playaz will play from 9 to 11 p.m. This family-friendly event is free to attend.

MUSIC: Laura & The Dale Rivers at Kudzu Seafood Company (7-10 p.m.)
Laura & The Dale Rivers will be performing on the rooftop of the Kudzu Seafood Company on Friday night. The band describes its music as “a soulful blend of funk and southern charm that will transport you back to the Good Ole Days.”

MUSIC: Shakey Graves at The Capitol Theatre (8 p.m.)
Moonhanger Presents the a show celebrating the 10th Anniversary of “And The War Came” from Shakey Graves with special guest Ruby Waters, performing live at Capitol Theatre on Friday. Shakey Graves plays music that combines “blues, folk, country, and rock and roll” while Ruby Waters is a singer/songwriter whose music is described as folk, rock, and indie pop. The doors open at 7 p.m. and the show starts at 8 p.m. Tickets start at $51.03 plus fees online at this link.

MUSIC: Mothers Finest at The Society Garden (8-10 p.m.)
Funk band Mother’s Finest will be performing on Ingleside Avenue this Friday night at the groovy Society Garden. The Atlanta band formed in 1970 and had some relatively popular hits with songs like “Fire”, “Baby Love”, and “Don’t Wanna Come Back”. SATURDAY, May 3rd
Dinko de Mayo Pickleball Tournament at Tattnall Square Park (5/3-5/4) (8 a.m.-8 p.m.)
The Dinko de Mayo Pickleball Tournament from Southern Pickleball will take place on the 26 dedicated pickleball courts at Tattnall Square Park. The schedule starts on Saturday with Mens and Women’s doubles and continues on Sunday, May 4th with Mixed Doubles. Skills levels include 2 through 4.5+.

16th Annual All About Animals Rescue Run/Walk (8 a.m.)
The All About Animals Rescue Run/Walk includes a 1-mile run/walk, a 5k, and a quarter marathon. All proceeds from this annual event help the rescue take care of animals in need. Registration costs $30 for the 1-mile fun run/walk, $35 for the 5k, and $40 for the quarter marathon.

Smoke Stack Farmer’s Market at Payne Mill Antique Mall (9 a.m.-1 p.m.)
Payne Mill Antique Mall allows local vendors to sell antiques, collectibles, and furniture, but it is also the site of the brand new Smoke Stack Farmer’s Market this Saturday. Almost 20 vendors with everything from cold shrimp, sweet honey, and much more will be at this farmer’s market.

5th Annual Macon Mimosa Festival at The Society Garden (5/3-5/4) (12-5 p.m.)

Enjoy a day of blues music at the historic Zion Church in Talbotton during the 5th annual Historic Zion Church Blues Festival. There will be live music performances from Macon’s own Cash’s Juke Joint as well as Carolina Slim, Mandi and the Major 7’s, Memphis’ Own Yella P, Terry Harmonica Bean, and Lloyd Buchanan. General admission tickets cost $20 or $15 with a group of three or more, tickets for service members cost $18, and kids 12 and under get in free.

This music concert from Imperium Concerts is for audiences 18 and older and features performances from Don't Shoot The Messenger, Clockwise, Joythief, Endera, and Everything You Fear. Rose Hill Ramble with Kathleen O’Neal (10 a.m.)
Historic Macon Foundation’s resident tour guide Kathleen O’Neal will lead the curious through the historic Rose Hill Cemetery on a Rose Hill Ramble this Sunday. Participants will learn about the famous and infamous inhabitants of Macon and Middle Georgia. Tickets cost $15 online at this link.

Galactic Flow Yoga at Fall Line Brewing Co. (11 a.m.)
May the 4th be with you at Galactic Flow Yoga on Sunday, a unique and yoga class presented by Homegrown Yoga and inspired by the Star Wars universe. Participants will be given Star Wars beer slushies to sip on during the hour-long class.
