"Suess on the Loose" unleashed in Downtown Macon during March's First Friday

Suess on the Loose is a free program from United Way of Central Georgia and NewTown Macon who have partnered with local businesses to promote literacy and learning in Downtown Macon.

Suess on the Loose is also a celebration of the March 2nd birthday of beloved childrens' book author Dr. Seuss, according to a recent press release from NewTown Macon.

Due to expected inclement weather, as of Thursday, March 2nd The Seuss on the Loose program will now take place in the Georgia Sports Hall of Fame (301 Cherry Street) from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.

During Seuss on the Loose, Book Em will host a book giveaway in Third Street Park and the Library Without Walls (WOW) will sign up families for library cards and also have books available for children to check out.

Green Grass Green will be providing music, the Bibb County Health Department will provide free flu and COVID-19 vaccines, and other organizations (including Amerigroup, Bike Walk Macon, Cherry Blossom Festival, Junior League of Macon, Magnolia Soapbox Derby, and Metamorphosis Powerhouse Company) will be offering games and activities.

Several Downtown Macon businesses will also be participating in Seuss on the Loose by offering Dr. Seuss related specials and activities. 

Piedmont Brewery & Kitchen will offer a Green Eggs and Spam special, storytime, and face painting. Hello Boba Café will also be offering a storytime. The Bohemian Den will be offering a meditation for children and activities inspired by the Dr. Suess book "Would You".  Lawrence Mayer Florist will have an activity called "Could You Plant a Tree" which is based on a Dr. Suess book. There will also be pictures of Dr. Seuss' fantastical characters located at Macon Arts Alliance. 

Finally, families can also go on a StoryWalk and read Dr. Suess' "Oh, the Thinks You Can Think!" that will be posted in the windows of several downtown businesses and as well as complete a Seuss scavenger hunt for the chance to win gift cards to Downtown Macon businesses.
