Live Music in Middle Georgia this Week

Macon is once again going to full of the sound of music this weekend. The talented Drivin' N' Cryin' will appear along with Stevie Tombstone at Hargray on Friday. Fans of 80's glam hair metal music will want to check out at GlamëricA's performance at Billy's and the Reedy River Band will bring their unique Appalachian roots/rock/jam sound to JBA on Saturday. Here is a short list of just a few live music performances you can hear this week in Middle Georgia.


FRIDAY, MARCH 3

CASTING CROWNS WITH WE ARE MESSENGERS AND BEN FULLER AT THE MACON CITY AUDITORIUM (7 p.m.)

Casting Crowns is a contemporary Christian rock band that has been performing since 1999. Originally forming in Daytona Beach, Florida, some of this band’s members now work as ministers at Eagle’s Landing First Baptist Church in McDonough. They have extended their 'Healer' tour with the band We Are Messengers (a Christian band from Ireland) and Ben Fuller (from Vermont) and will stop in Macon on Friday night. Tickets for this concert start at around $60 dollars.

DRIVIN’ N’ CRYIN’ WITH STEVIE TOMBSTONE AT HARGRAY CAPITOL THEATRE (8 - 11 p.m.)

Drivin’ N’ Cryin’ have been performing together for 35 years. Based in Atlanta, this band’s songs could often be heard on blasting out of FM radios during the late 80s and 90s. Drivin’ N’ Cryin’ released nine albums and a few EPs during their career and have survived many years of touring. Singer and songwriter Stevie Tombstone will be performing with the band. Tombstone’s style mixes folk, country, rock, and blues. His music career also started out in Atlanta in the 80s. General admission tickets for this concert cost $25.

Drivin’ N’ Cryin’s “Honeysuckle Blue” was released in 1989

MARIE ORTIZ AT GRANT’S LOUNGE (9 p.m.)

Marie Ortiz is a singer and songwriter. She mixes folk, rhythm and blues, and a little bit of jazz music in her songs. Tickets for this show costs $10 dollars.

THE SHADE TREES AT THE HUMMINGBIRD (10 p.m. - 2 a.m.)

The Shade Trees is a rock and roll band with indie music roots. This band blends Americana, indie, country, and rock music to create their own unique sound. The Hummingbird Stage and Taproom charges a $5 cover at the door.

NYTEBYRD AT BILLY’S CLUBHOUSE (10 p.m. - 2 a.m.)

NyteByrd is a band from Macon that performs rock, funk, rhythm and blues, classic rock, and dance covers. NyteByrd can often be found performing on stages around Middle Georgia (including at Amici at Mercer University on Saturday at 8 p.m.). Billy’s Clubhouse does not have a cover charge.

DJ B3, DARK SHADOW, JC3, MR. SPADE, 3.NIGMA, AND DJ UH-OH AT JBA (10 p.m.)

JBA will soon be moving up the street to a larger building and they will be celebrating their last First Friday on the corner this Friday. DJ B3, who has had several residencies at JBA, will perform along with other talented DJs. JBA does not have a cover charge.



SATURDAY, MARCH 4

WYATT PYLES AND DAN KELLY BAND AT GRANT’S LOUNGE (4 p.m. -2 a.m.)

Wyatt Pyles and Dan Kelly are a musical duo who play their own original songs as well as covers of popular songs. They can often be found performing at Billy’s Clubhouse and Grant’s. Tickets to this show cost $10.

GLAMERICA AT BILLY’S CLUBHOUSE (10 p.m. - 2 a.m.)

GlamëricA is a tribute band from Indianapolis, Indiana that covers the hair and glam metal from the 80’s. They will be performing at Billy’s Clubhouse in North Macon on Saturday night. Billy’s Clubhouse does not have a cover charge.

HIGHWAY NATIVES AT THE HUMMINGBIRD (11 p.m.)

Highway Natives is a 5-piece rock band whose sound has been compared to early Allman Brothers and The Black Crowes. The Hummingbird Stage and Taproom charges a $5 cover at the door.

REEDY RIVER STRING BAND AND MATT MCMILLAN AT JBA (10 p.m.)

The Reedy River String Band plays Appalachian roots music mixed with rock and roll and jam band music. The band is made up of Sterling Waite, Mark Dye, and Rush Morgan and they are set to make their JBA debut this Friday, February 4. Waite spent some of his youth growing up in Macon. The Reedy River String Band recently performed at the Albino Skunk Music Festival in South Carolina. JBA does not have a cover charge.

SUNDAY, MARCH 5

GLORYWAY QUARTET AT VICTORY BAPTIST CHURCH IN MILLEDGEVILLE (10:45 a.m. - 12:15 p.m.)

The GloryWay Quartet is a male quartet who recently won the Sunrise Quartet of the Year award. GloryWay was founded in Mansfield, Ohio by its lead singer, Justin Crank who loved the sound of gospel music sung in four-part harmony.
